When you are at home (not on vacation), what types of things/traditions/rituals does your family have that keep the magic alive when you are not at Disney World?

Also, do any of you have noteworthy methods of indoctrinating your family in the Disney life?

We read Disney planning guides.

We watch Disney movies and the Disney Channel/Toon Disney, and listen to Radio Disney.

We plan Disney trips, sometimes just imaginary ones, sometimes real, for fun.

I read the DIS and other Disney websites.

I have Disney ringtones on my phone. It's great to have Mickey Mouse tell me that my phone's ringing!!

Oh yeah! That is a critical part of Disney neurosis . . . the conversion of non-believers/wishers to "our side". I forgot that sometimes I actually conduct Disney jihad (spelled right?) on my closest friends. You are lucky to have "saved" so many people. I, myself, have only been able to convert my family up to this point, but I have come real close to leading some non-believing/wishing friends to redemption. Maybe in time they will come around . . .

Ditto! Oh! And every once in a blue moon, at least in the Indy area we throw a party!

Planning and thinking about future trips doesn't hurt either.

One other tradition we have is about 7 days before our trip we create a countdown calendar. We mark a day off the calendar each morning until it's time for our trip. It's really fun and helps build anticipation.

ME TOO!!! I really enjoy fantasizing about staying at Beach/Yacht Club, Boardwalk (minus the scary clown pool), etc. in that area, which won't happen unless I win the lottery. Since I don't think to buy tickets very often, I don't think that's going to happen...

We watch lots of Disney movies, look at our scrapbooks, and obsessively discuss all things Disney with the family members that go with us. I'm getting bad, though - I was scrapbooking at a local store last weekend with some friends. There were two women having a conversation halfway across the store from each other. They started discussing the trip one of them had just taken to Disney World, and the other actually asked, "Oh! Was there enough for (insert young child's name) to do there?" I actually was muttering under my breath at her! My friends, who know but don't share in my obsession, were just shaking their heads at me. I think I need help...

In case you can't tell . . . I'm taking notes. How do you make your own Dole Whips? How do you make Cinderella waffles?

We use lots of WDW "stuff" to decorate our home for the seasons. Just last night I put out our Mickey pumpkin candle holders. We have things for just about all the seasons/holidays, but I need something from Easter.

We religiously change our antena topper for the season, and change grandma's too. She's in on our crazy little obsession.

Our children use the Mickey shaped plastic plates for meals. (If you promise not to tell anyone, sometimes DH and I use them too!)

We talk about WDW all the time, sing WDW attraction theme songs (....A man has a dream, and that's the start) and I try to incorporate, "Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow" into a conversation at least once a week.

We wear our WDW sweatshirts every chance we get, and love it when people ask us questions about our trips. I'm thinking about making up buisiness cards to give to people when they ask about our trips in case they have other questions later....but that might be taking it too far.

When I overhear someone talking about WDW, I jump in the conversation, even if they are strangers. And, my favorite....when I go to book stores, I check out the disney area a few times when I'm there to see if someone is looking at Disney book....

In case you can't tell . . . I'm taking notes. How do you make your own Dole Whips? How do you make Cinderella waffles?

You take a little piece of Cinderella and....

no no no...I have a mickey shaped waffle make and one that has an image of Cinderella on one side and just regular waffle on the other side.

I have dole whip mix I bought online and an ice cream machine. Got it last Fathers Day.

Also, I got about 5 boxes of Disney plastic silver wear at the Disney store in Chicago, we use it all the time. Its heavy enough to wash and re-use.

Same as all other neurotic Disney people. I come here. Listen to the podcast. Decorate my home for every holiday/season with Disney stuff. Plan my trips and help anyone who needs help with planning. And I also increase the flock. I love to convert people to Disney.

Don't make his head swell....

We make a countdown chain (numbered up to 50 days). I have it saved in excel and print it out each time we go to WDW. Emma loves ripping a chain everyday and talking about the different pictures on it.
