When you are on an onramp and trying to merge onto a highway. Do you turn your turn signal on, or not?

In Atlanta, turing your signal light on makes the other guy immediately speed up to cut you off. This is the same city where people stop in the middle of the road for a funeral and speed up to cut off an ambulance or fire truck.

I don't signal.

My DH does but I don't. To me it's pretty obvious I'm getting on, where else would I go :confused3 ? Now, when I'm changing lanes I always signal.

Not sure really. I probably do sometimes. My feeling is that if I'm on the on-ramp, people know I'm trying to get on.
Now, when I'm changing lanes I always signal.
Me too, unless there's no one around.

I rarely signal either, unless there is an off ramp right there. I know in the book we are supposed to, but it doesn't make sense.
I was just wondering, I see it all the time.

Technically we're supposed to
Around here signalling is a sign of weakness. My dad taught me how to drive, and let's just say signalling was not emphasized in those lessons. I try to signal, but to be honest I feel kind of dumb signalling when it's pretty obvious where I'm going.

However, there are certain on ramps that are right next to statie hide outs. I ALWAYS signal then. I also always signal when my mom is in the car with me

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

I always do...force of habit I guess. I think I just always felt it was one more way for people to SEE ME! HELLO??? May I please come on??? Please???

I always signal. If the person in the lane on the freeway is kind of driving on autopilot I figure that the flashing lights might catch their attention more than me just merging onto the freeway.

Plus, I was taught to do that in Drivers Ed.

I signal. I figure most people aren't paying a whole lot of attention to those of us trying to merge, and signaling might get their attention.

Plus, in general, I always signal when I am changing lanes to give a heads-up to other drivers.

I do, force of habit. I also use my turn signal to turn into my own driveway on my residential street. I am just a creature of habit I guess.

I always signal. The drivers around here need all the warning they can get.

I put my signal on just out of habit. It doesn't matter though because the not so bright drivers of RI always STOP at the on ramps to the freeway. Oh yes, stop to wait for traffic to be clear. No one knows how to merge on to the freeways or yield to oncoming traffic. There are always so many rear end accidents.
I learned to drive in CA and when you got on the on ramp to merge into traffic, the right lane would scoot to the left to let you on. Easy and it worked. No one uses their signals here anyway-ever!
