What do you do with your pets?

We have 2 senior canines (we inherited a year ago). The dogs go to a kennel about 20 miles from our house. We used it with our St. Bernard (RIP:sad1:) and he LOVED it. There are kennels closer but we trust this place implicitly. In the Saint's last year of life we had a neighbor watch him. If you don't have a relative or friend who can watch them ask for recommendations in your area of a trusted kennel or pet sitter. There are plenty of good ones out there, and the pets will be just fine.

When my keeshonds (Paprika & Dakota) were alive my mom would watch them. Then when they passed we got ferrets which she also watched. Now it is just the fishes Nemo and Dory. She will be coming over and feeding them. I just have to remember to clean the tank before we leave.

This reply is probably OT and I didn't read anymore than the Title Question.

Q: What do you do with your pets?

Though my Dog is loved...my first thought when I read this Question was this.

A: Throw their toys outside and encourage them to play in traffic. :lmao:

OK...so she peed the carpet and she's on my naughty dog list.

1 dog, 3 cats, a fish.

We are going to Disney in October. My inlaws have my dog, Daisy's sister Sophie. We will be boarding both dogs at the vet's office.(Local type thing, country-ish area) Its $13 a day.

Our 3 cats will stay home with a auto water bowl. (Its huge, it belongs to the dog.) And a big bowl of food in thier normal area. And a big bowl by the water. They will be fine.

My inlaws...I have no idea what they will do. they wanted to board them. Til they realized it would cost almost $300 for the 3 pets. (they thought we'd pay...lmao)

We bring our dog to a local kennel when we vacation.

She gets fed, gets a couple of individual walks a day plus she gets play time with other dogs in the large dog run. Her individual cage has indoor and outdoor areas so she can be in or out when she wants. It has a/c in the warm weather and heat in the cold weather. We bring her blanket and bowls, but they provide them if you don't want to bring your own. They give her a bath before she comes home and they wash her blanket too. They really do treat her really well!

We just have one anti-social cat. She doesn't ever go outside and hisses at people. I think that she would have some kind of nervous breakdown if we had her in a boarding facility.

We give our house keys to my mom and friend. Someone comes to check on her. She always has plenty of food and water and I am sure that she misses us. Since she despises any othe people, it is really hard to do anything else.

It doesn't technically cost us anything BUT we have to keep the A/C at a reasonable temperature so she won't get too hot.

There is NO WAY that I would ever vacation with our cat. That would be miserable for everyone, including the cat!:lmao:

We have 2 cats. They stay at home and party while there parents are gone. :rotfl2: They are easy to leave at home, cant do that with a dog. Just have to make sure you leave out enought food and water, and we put out 2 extra cat litter boxes.

I'm having a hard time this year with my 2 year old havanese. He is my little shadow. We usually leave him with my brother's family. Their dog and my dog are best friends [they're cuddling right now as I'm watching her this weekend].

BUT we're going for TWO weeks this summer. First to WDW then to Anna Maria. THe place at Anna Maria has a fenced yard and will allow him. So I'm really tempted to bring him.

He requires brushing. He can go a week but beyond that especially with brother's dog chewing on him, he'll be a matted mess! Plus they're super busy and two weeks might be alot. My folks offered to watch him one week and then pass to bro for 2nd week.

I've posted on here about friendly kennels near WDW..where they get human interaction, etc. Miss Emily's Bed & Biscut and Bass Pet Motel were recommded and VIPets. Also WDW is supposed to be building a luxury kennel to be done in May but I haven't read any more about it.

We are driving [15 hours] so that's another thing we're dealing with. He'd be fine though I think.

I just don't know if I want to be without him for 2 weeks! LOL.

This thread is great. THanks.

I've got a friend who does dog sitting out of her home, so our dogs go stay with her. She actually got us hooked into doing the same, so we now take care of dogs in our home, and use that money for our Disney fund! I could never kennel our dogs, so this is a nice option if you can find someone who offers this service. Luckily, my friend and I take care of each other's dogs for free. Both of us only charge $20/night, so it wouldn't break the bank...but still.

We have a pet sitting service come in to visit our cats every other day while we are gone.

If we are going away for just a day or two, we have a pet sitter who can come in to stay overnight here. She charges $50/day, which would really add up for a long Disney vacation.

Our Lhasa is super spoiled and either goes to stay with grandpa (DFil) most of the time when we go to Disney (that's the only vacation we really take). On the 2 occasions that wouldn't work - one DFIL had his own travel plans and the other was our wedding and he came with us - a good friend who has a small dog too kept her. I feel bad asking either of them to watch her once or twice a year, but they seem to love her and never appear to mind. The dog loves it - we think it's a vacation to her too - new smells, someone else to spoil her and all. When we go visit my family out of state she goes with us - it gives my DH a reason why we should drive 12 hours instead of flying (which he's afraid to do but won't admit he's afraid :rotfl:)
