What do you do with your medals?

I'm just curious what everyone does with their medals. I just got my first. I hope there will be many more. I'm just wondering what everyone does with them. I kind of just want to carry it around everywhere with me to prove I can put my mind to anything, but I'm not sure wearing that in an executive meeting is so professional. :)

I'd love some ideas.

Hi Jane! I understand completely about wanting to carry around your medal!

I copied an idea from Wendy for displaying mine - I hang them from a curtain rod in my family room. Here's a picture from a couple of years ago....

I copied mine from Pat's picture...this is from earlier this year after the Princess 5K medal was added. 3 more medals in the next month!! I, too, want a wall of medals!!

We use ours as lanyards for the rest of our trip (we're obsessive pin traders, and each do one lanyard per trip as our souvenier)...and then when we get home, we have a giant corkboard on our wall that we pin them onto along with something that gives the date of the trip

As of right now they sit on a shelf. I have a shadow box but not that prerequisite craftiness to mate medals with said box. One of these days, when a crafty person I know needs computer help, I will trade my skills for theirs :thumbsup2.

Pay an arm and a leg to a vendor, but it looks great!

Here's what mine currently look like:

The basement is unfinished, but I can see them from the treadmill, which is what counts. I keep meaning to organize my old race bibs (including writing the date, my time, place, etc on the back), but haven't gotten round to it yet.

These all look great. I love these options. Not sure what I'm going to do with mine yet though. Not so creative myself. And I have very little tradeable skills. Unless someone wants advice on visiting WDW. But I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Keep 'em coming. I love seeing everyone's displays.

I will have to post a picture when I get home, but I have all of mine split up into shadow boxes. My stairs work out to be about 3 steps, a landing, 3 more steps and another landing and then steps till they hit the next floor. Since that wall is slanted I have the shadow boxes stepping down as well along the angled wall. I have 6 per box and 4 boxes total right now along with a shadow box of pins, a drawing of Minnie running and a FMG frame for my first full. I am now out of space though so I am getting ready to move onto the other walls in the same stairwell.

Here is an early shot - there is now 6 medals per box, but it has the same general layout. The far wall in the picture is where I plan to start putting additional boxes.

I keep my bibs and photos from my races. As for the medals, I am the regional coordinator for an organization called Medals 4 Mettle. I collect other endurance athletes medals to put with my own and donate them to people fighting serious illnesses. When I start feeling down in the dumps, I remember the joy on the child's face (and the tears in his mom's eyes) when I hung my Mickey Mouse medal around his neck and told him to finish strong.

I started with just one row, but recently added the second row on the bottom. The medals are held up by clear push pins. It took a looong time for me to measure out and put up all the push pins, but I really like the final result.

Edit: I've been collecting pins from all the Disney and Rock 'n' Roll races that I've done, but haven't figured out yet what do with them. Any ideas?

Ooooh, lots of good ideas here. Mine are just in plastic baggies now.

Robert and Jeff, I like the 5 medals together like that. I may have to do DL this next year to get that display. However, I'll wait to see if I complete the Goofy first. ;) Also, I wonder if DL will be doing a special medal since it will be the 5th anniversary of the race. ???

(I'm going so broke doing all these races. *sigh*)

The easiest thing would be to just put the pin in the ribbon from the medal. There will probably be much better suggestions though.

might be a dumb question, but how did you get the medals to stay like that in the boxes you made? i tried making a box with my medal, but when the excess ribbon folded over it just stuck out and the box wouldn't close properly and i just ended up making a hot mess ha...i just hate to cut the ribbons on the medal just in case i want to store them in a different way later on in life
