What do you do with your leftover's?

I don't eat leftovers. Never have, never will. The only leftover I will eat is cold, pizza from the night before that has been in the fridge. Thats the only way I'll eat them.

my favorite left over is the Thanksgiving sandwich. Bread or roll and all the leftovers go on the bread/roll. Reheated turkey, gravy, & filling. Plus cold cranberry sauce. Yummy. Can't wait for turkey day. :teeth:

I ALWAYS eat my leftovers and when I am at a restaurant.......I always get a doggie bag.

When my SIL goes to eat with us at a restaurant this embarrasses her to no end....she thinks it is crass to ask for a doggy bag and take leftovers home. :dog2:

I can't imagine what some of you folks are cooking since many of the things I make are actually BETTER the second time around. There are a few things that aren't so great leftover -- broccoli, for example -- so I try to only cook enough of those items for one meal.

I mostly make grilled beef or chicken with salad and rice or pasta in a fresh tomato & garlic or light cream sauce. I try to only cook enough for two though. I don't make lots of food and pots of sauce unless I'm cooking for a party.

Even food I love, I throw out though. I made Rice Krispy Treats last night. I ate 2 chunks and threw the rest away. I would feel a lot worse about eating the pan, then I do about wasting food.

Having been raised that wasting food is a bad thing, I always carefully place all leftovers in containers in the fridge with every good intention of eating them later. Then I forget all about them.

I usually rediscover them when they've become all green and fuzzy and science-experiment-like and THEN I throw them out, but at least I haven't thrown out "perfectly good food".

The leftovers get tossed, but with some guilt. I know that DH and I will not eat them, so they will sit in the fridge and turn into sludge. I do feel very guilty about throwing away meat--it just seems so wrong to take a life and then casually throw it away.

DH and I both love leftovers and it's a good thing because I can't seem to cook in small quantities. Spaghetti sauce gets frozen, we take things for lunch, or have them as dinner later in the week on a busy evening. I also have a co-worker who lives alone and so, doesn't cook very often. I sometimes package up some leftovers and take them in for her and she's tickled to have a homecooked meal with no work. Same with my mom when she's in town--I give her half and she loves it.

No throwing away of food in this house!

Esmeralda -- the key to reheating steak is to do it very slowly. I also think it works better in the oven rather than microwave.

I even reuse broccoli! I will save the leftover broccoli and the liquid I cooked it in and make soup the next day!

When we eat out, many times by the time I get done eating all the sides, the salad, vegtables and potato, I am too full to eat the steak, so I will bring it home, slice it thinly, and fry it with onions, peppers and mushrooms and make sandwiches for lunch!

The only thing I really don't like re heated or reused is hamburgers. Even homegrilled ones have a strange taste when you reheat them.

I keep thinking of a George Carlin quote:

Leftovers make you feel good twice:

When you put them in the frig "I'm saving food!"

and week later when you throw them away "I'm saving my life!"

We always try to eat leftovers but at least once a week I'm saving my life by throwing away what I call our science experiments!

Yup, that happens here too. I think I have a container of stuffing in there somewhere....
