It is turning brown and the needles are falling off.

How can I get it out of the room without making a mess?

What do I do with it once it's outside?

put it in a box, until next year

It's a real tree, so putting in a box is not an option

Should I call the town hall and see if they can pick it up?

Where I live the recycling center takes them and turns them into mulch and in the spring people can come get free mulch. I never send mine there. We live out in the country and we always stand ours outside near our birdfeeder and wild birds take shelter in in during the winter. It usually stays fairly green just standing out there. Then in the spring we use it to form a big bon fire! Quite exciting because it forms a huge blaze!!

I take it you didn't put one of those disposable tree bags under the stand before you set up the tree. If not, it's still not too late to use one (Drug Fair, Target, Wal Mart etc shoud still have them). If you can't find one try using at old sheet. Lay it out on the floor, take the tree out of the stand and lay it down on the sheet, roll it up and carry it out. Take the tree out trunk 1st to mimimize the amount of needles that will get all over. In our neighborhood the township has a pickup in mid-January. One of our parks also takes them for mulch. I'd call your town and see what they do.

Personally, ours will be going back in the box.

I live in an apartment, and they've been really snarky about taking out trash. We have these little bins outside our doors that we can put trash in, but ONLY certain days and ONLY certain times. If it's not in there during the correct time, they charge you $25 for pickup.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to drag my dying tree to the dumpster near the front of the complex. Yikes!

My tree is a beautiful handmade ceramic tree so I often just leave it up all year next to my PM Nativity. Celebrating Christ's birth death and resurrection is a year round thing for me not just something to do at a particular time of year.

:D

I find a road by my house that isn't used much and dump the tree on the side of the road.

Our local state Park uses the trees as an environment for the fish. The local community park arranges for the trees to be left thre and then in January - all the trees are transported to the State Park.

OK I called town hall

The town does not pick up trees
I think it's a seperation of church and state thingy

So I guess, like Mickey76 suggested, I may just drop it off on an old road :(
