What do you do with your children's clothes when they outgrow them?

I save some, consign some, give some to my neighbors and goodwill the majority of it. (with 3 kids - one being a teenage daughter - there is a lot) All of a sudden, all 3 of my kids have outgrown almost everything!

Clothes that were either outgrown, some with tags, or those we did not want anymore that were in excellent condition were given to coworkers.

Our church has a clothing garage. I take them there.:D

I sell in a kids consignnent sale held at a church. You receive 70% of the selling price and 30% goes to missions. You make much more than you would in a garage sale and they go to missions. The ones that don't sell go to charity.
I did the same thing this year. 150 items (Pete's old clothes and Barney/Sesame Street videos), all but two of his videos sold. The church will get $ 140.00 for missions and I should get around $250.00. :teeth: Because I worked 8 hours at the sale, I was able to get into the "pre-sale" and I spent around $ 57.00 on clothes for Pete. I got 12 shirts, 5 pairs of pants, and 3 pairs of practically new shoes which I thought was a great deal! The sale is huge and this year the church estimated take in was around $ 17,000.00!!

Once I outgrew clothes, they were passed down to my sister. Once my sister outgrew clothes, they were either given to some of our younger cousins (since we have soooo many) or given to goodwill.

I give alot of it to another triplet family that has 2boys and a girl about 1 year younger than mine (matching outfits). The rest I usually donate to church or goodwill. I am still trying to decide what I am going to do with 3 cribs and bumper sets. Does goodwill take furniture?

Tara,

Goodwill does take furniture. I took DD's crib and some other things to the store in Plainfield. A friend also told me about an organization called The Giving Network in the central NJ area that will pick up items ( the website is :http://www.uucsh.org/givingnet.html ).

For DD's stuff I give her really good seldom worn items to a friend with a DD about 2yrs younger than mine. From there they will go to Goodwill. Anything else of DD's that's in good shape I give to Goodwill.

I have a friend we swap -- my boys stuff to her and her girls stuff to me. I get the better end of the bargain, she has an awesome MIL who buys great stuff and her DD isn't very hard on her clothes. Not much of my stuff is wearable anymore, unless it is dressy Sunday School stuff and snowsuit things. Sometimes I give stuff to my neighbor across the street. Anything else I give to the Thrift Shop for charity.

I donate to Goodwill or to M'Yad L'Yad (that's an organization connected to my synagogue.)

just donated a whole bunch of stuff both girls have outgrown -- including a few items that still had tags on them -- things I thought wer ecute but the girls hated and never wore.

All my old clothes (kids) go to my girlfriend who is now raising her 3 nephews with no finacial asssistance since thier mom died last year. All 3 boys are younger than mine, So it has worked out perfectly.
I have saved lots of sentimental stuff from each of the kids. and just last month gave my entire twins bedroom baby collection to my cousin that is expecting twins. 2 cribs, swings, a changing table, bedding, lamps, bumpers, toys etc.. etc... It was stars and moons, I did light blue walls with 2 boys, She is doing yellow as she is having one of each. She was lucky we had similar tastes as she saved a ton of Money!!!

OP, I wish I could find someone like your co-worker to give our outgrown stuff too... but I haven't had that happen....

For the most part, I just donate it all to Goodwill, I'm going to try to Ebay some of the new stuff in the coming weeks... Personally though, I'd rather give it to a good cause...

I give most of ours to a local womens shelter. Some go to friends.

I give them to someone that I know can use them or to a womens shelter , never ever throw them away because there's always someone who can use them.
