What do you do with the kids at night?

If the adults in your party go "out" at night partying at the clubs until 11, 12, or 1, what do you do with your kids? I know the Club/Lab is open that late, but do you check them into the Club/Lab and they konk out on the floor, after which you carry them to your cabin? Or do you put them to bed, leave them a two-way and head "out"?

What works for you? Our kids are 8 and 10.

Our plan is that our DD 6 can stay in the club as late as she wants, as long as we are awake. They do give out mats and watch movies at, I think, 9:00pm-this is for the 5-7 yr range. If we need to go to bed, then we'll get her. I can't see staying out in the clubs until 1AM... That's not our style. As to the 8 yr old children, you can go to www.castawayclub.com and check the Navigators for your child's age group.

As for me, I would not leave my kids alone in the cabin.

Even at home DS11 is up later than we are! He'll either be in the Lab, movies, with us or in the room. No different than during the day. My concern is letting us know where he is and vice versa.

I guess we are lucky our DD (6) never wanted to leave the clubs. We will give you a beeper if your child wants to leave they can request that yu be beeped to come and get them. For the older kids the 2 way radios work great, you can most likely get a pair for under $40.
Children in the age group of 8-12 have the option of allowing them to sign themselves in and out with parental consent.

Uh, my daughter has YET to conk out on the floor, she is going strong when we pick her up when the clubs close. She has NEVER gone to sleep in the clubs, from ages 5-9, they have too much fun.

I've heard that two-way radios don't work that well on the ship. It might be a concern if the child is alone in the room.

So, do your kids stay awake at the clubs until midnight? My kids can barely make it to 10 or 10:30, and at that time the night is still young for me and DH!

If your kids wanted/needed to go to bed by 10, would you call it a night at 10 (and miss all the fun in the lounges)?

Even if the 2-ways were to work in the adult clubs, you'd never hear them.

I'd put the kids in the clubs, and tell them to have the club page you if they get too tired.

I would NOT leave them alone in the cabin.

My DD6 was in the club every evening and conked out each time. She usually goes to bed around 9pm normally. We had late seating and would put her in the club around 9:45. When we picked her up around MN, she was asleep on the mat in front of the tv showing a movie. She said that she played a little when she first got there, then started watching the movie and fell asleep.

Wiggle, you'd be surprised how late kids stay up on the cruise, even if they normally go to bed much earlier. There's just all sorts of activities going on in the clubs.

We sleep in on the cruise (unless there is a reason we have to get up early) and yes, everyone is a little sleep deprived all week but it works for us. She gets to play hard at night and so do we.

In BD's absence, let me give this a stab.

I find that if you jam a few pennies in the door, the kids can't open it up from the inside. This way you ensure they're safe inside while you have a blast on Beat Street

The pennies in the door is a joke, right? What would happen, heaven forbid if the child had to get out of the room because of an emergency? You have just trapped your child in a burning room.

I think it all depends on the age of the children and your comfort level with them following directions and being responsible.

My DD is also 8 and we will be cruising on the 10/12 cruise. We went on our first DC when she was 6 (June 2001) and she was wide awake when we'd pick her up from the club (usually around midnite). She and our table mate's daughter had a blast. They could hardly wait for dinner to be over so they could go to the kids club. WE will probably do the same thing this trip.

I would hope that I don't have to answer that. If you weren't sure, I would have thought the smiley would have given it away

My daughter was asleep by 9-10 everynight and at that point we did call it a night...went back to the room and sat out on the verandah or watched some TV before falling asleep ourselves. I would not want to leave her sleeping in the kids club or flounders but that is just me....not saying it is wrong or right but just not something I do.

Hi Sandy. lol. NEVER underestimate the power of a good audience!

Wiggle - you might be too tired to carry them all the way back to your stateroom. A good pair of pointed boots should work well. Just one well-placed kick and the kids are up and about...
