...Someone is calling you by the wrong name?
There is a woman Ive known for years. Her son used to be my friends roommate and Ive been to quite a few get togethers with her over the past 5-6 years. Well I ran into her at a school function last night and in conversation she kept calling me the wrong name(Kathy instead of Katie). I didnt have the heart to correct her and I couldnt think of how to do it tactfully anyway. So, what would you have done?

Ummm, I think I might have just snuck in real quiet and casual Katie after she had said my name and left it at that.

I have a name that people often mispronounce. I correct them the first few times, then I start to mispronounce THEIR name. If they correct me, I say that I didn't think pronunciations mattered much to them, since I had repeatedly corrected them on how to pronounce my name. It's huge pet peeve of mine. Continuing to mispronounce someone's name after they have corrected you is disrespectful. It says that you don't care enough about the person to get it right. I don't blame you for being annoyed!

Most people can't seem to pronounce my name. I'm used to it. I've been called Kathleen, Kathryn, Kathy and most recently, Cot O'Holyn.

I just try to go with whatever they call me

My dad's uncle does that and I don't correct him. Other people know my real name and I just let him be.

I have the same problem with one of my Brownie scout mothers...
she is as sweet as she can be but continuely calls me by my last name, which if spelt differently would be a female name... I have corrected her a couple of times but she just doesn't seem to get it... so now I just smile and knod... no biggie...

Judging from these replies, I guess I did the right thing.
This morning I was mentioning it to DH and he said when he was talking to her, she mentioned Kathy. He then said,oh you mean Katie? And then she realized what she had been doing, LOL! So, she does know now, but I was wondering how others would have handled the situation.

I've been known to call people by their wrong name when they call me by the wrong name Just a subtle hint. It actually works sometimes.

I think I'm going to start calling Katholyn Cot O'Holyn. I like that one.

I can relate to that one...I used to get mad and correct those who get my name wrong. Now, I just don't answer them if I'm called Susan. After a while, I get asked "Why aren't you answering me?" and I respond that I didn't hear my name, which is SuzANNE. Works like a charm.

Gee....I must come across as being rude because I would correct the person calling me by another name! As soon as someone calls me by another name, I just say "it's Rose." They then apologize & also remember to call me by my proper name!

Another thing that I know bothers some people is if you've forgotten their name! If I've forgotten someone's name, I tell them "I'm so sorry, but I've forgotten your name..." I'm just honest that way.

Actually I just answer them LOL...I figure eventually they will figure it out on their own. I have A LOT of people I know from online calling me April in person and I got to the point where I naturally answer to that name LOL.

I let it go, because I have a feeling there's been some people I've addressed incorrectly along the way - so God is getting even with me.
