What Do You Do When...

I run into this alot because people mispronounce my name too, but it's not that big a deal to me..

My name is Lori - not Laurie.

Our last name is Spaeth, pronounced with a long A, nobody gets it right.

In my kids elementary school, the secretary would always say "Hi Mrs. Space".

Now in junior high, they say my DD's last name as if it were spelled this way "Speeth".

We just can't win....sometimes I wish I could just go back to and give my kids my maiden name : Murphy - can't go wrong with that one ;)

When I give a customer back their charge card, I always thank them by Mr/Ms/Mrs last name and if I mispronounce it, I apologize and ask them for the correct pronounciation, people really seem to appreciate that and I like to get it right.

I agree with "if it's only occasionally that you'' see her, let it go". My full name is Kristina and that's how my emails go out to the company. A number of my coworkers (that I email) call me Kristine, though I prefer Kris. I let it go, it's not that big of a deal to me anymore. I know who they're speaking to and they know who they are speaking to as well.

So, what would you have done?

Very few people have EVER pronounced my name correctly. My given name is Yvonne. My family calls me Vonnie. Well, I got sick of being called Bonnie so when I went to college I decided to go by Yvonne. The Y is pronounced long E. I get Ya von. My inlaws all call me A von (short a - although someone used to call me Avon as in the avon lady.) I have given up - I answer to just about anything now.

I know another Yvonne/Vonnie that began introducing herself as Bonnie.

So I would just let it slide.
