What do you do to "Blow Off Steam"?

If something is aggrivating you, your having trouble at work or disagreeing with one of the kids, spouse ect... do you do anything specific? I find doing something physical helps, yesterday I worked in the yard for several hours cutting bushes, pruning trees, cleaning the shed... then I dug out my bike and pushed a solid 45 min several mile ride. Just sitting around "fussing" is not the best thing for me at least. I do have to force myself though, as I would rather just sit around watching a ballgame or something. Is there something you do that helps you when your temper is short or things are getting to you?
Have a nice Monday :)

i like banging/hitting/slamming things around when i'm mad. this usually includes pots/pans/doors and people are who are in my way to get to them.

I also blow-off steam in the yard. Gardening can be a great release, it also can be a great place to think.

Depending on how much steam has built up inside me, and times when there's smoke coming out my ears, I create my best garden plans.

I go into a cleaning frenzy. I cleaned out the attic for 3 hours yesterday in the heat:rolleyes: Nothing better than a good sweat and a clean attic to melt your worries away!
That sounds a little silly now that I'm typing this, but hey it worked. I could mumble all I wanted up there and no one heard me.

Actually I take a non physical approach. I write it down. I've been keeping a notebook for almost a year now and use it to write down things that upset me, things that happen that make me happy, just about anything that is out of the ordinary. The writing gets it out of my system and days later I can go back and read it when I'm more rational about the situation and see if I could have handled it differently.

Once I have it written down it does feel good to go out and get some fresh air and something new to look at. That helps put things in perspective as well.

I usually go out to the driving range and whack a bucket of balls. It's amazing how far I can drive the ball when I see my ex-husband's or boss' face on it. ;) ;)

I would love to bop a few people......and I am a very calm person....so lately there are a few people that I would love to just bop them....or pumbarize them.......the thing is when some people hurt others for no apparent reason.......that really irks me......so I sort of say a few ca ca words and usually feel better........but .......I still have that steam in my head ready to implode ......explode is not good for others...

I clean.
Sometimes I swear my DW aggravates me just so the house gets a once-over. :p

I retreat, either to the Internet or with a good tear jerker movie. I want to be by myself and I want to be quiet and eat something sweet. :p I'm not a yeller or screamer like my mother is. She just lets it all out by screaming and yelling like a banshee.

I usually go to the gym... I've learned that it helps to sweat it all out! Either that, or I go shopping :) Nothing like some consumer therapy.

I Dis! ;)
Im also a big screamer and thrower...be sure I dont have anything in my hand before you get me mad. ;)

well I usually go work out at the gym, or drink a few beers, depending on what mood I'm in :p - or, at my worst, I just throw a good ole-fashioned tantrum ;)

There's one more thing I do, but I don't think this is the place to talk about that.

I clean my house , or go outside and "tidy" up the yard, pulling weeds, and raking residual leaves that I never got cleaned up from last fall.

Or, I take the pug out for a big walk! (which, for a pug , isn't so big. Maybe 1 mile....) :)

For me, it depends on how much steam I have to blow off. Usually, venting to friends takes care of it. But when it gets particularly bad I *have* to hit something (I've found the back of my couch at home works well -- well padded, and I can't hit hard enough to damage it) or shoot things. When I get in the "must shoot things" level, I typically run out to Blockbuster and grab one of those "first-person shooter" games. Most recently I discovered Medal of Honor and that works really well. The combination of shooting things and having to get my mind on the game (distraction in other words) works better than just about anything else sometimes for me.

I don't hit things anymore, the last time I did I broke my knuckle ( sp? ) but I have found going for a drive alone blasting the music very therapeutic, if that's not enough , I go shopping!

Sometimes I say hateful things that I don't mean and that I know aren't true. It takes a while for me to get to that stage but when I do I run on pure emotion. Its probably my worst quality.

Now if its not all that much steam I have been known to let out a scream :) It just lets off the stress...LOL! Just inhale as deeply as possible and let it fly....it might startle a few of your family members or friends but its exhillerating..LOL

If its a different kind of steam, like with my panic attacks I like to write it all out. Whether it be to post somewhere like here or write it all down in a diary putting my feelings down can definatly help.

Oh and this one is funny....when I get mad at John....really mad which doesn't happen often but when it does John has this really bad habit about laughing at me and it makes me soooo mad!! So I have been known to pick things up and throw them at him...LOL! Nothing huge but deodarant, spoons etc. Which makes him laugh more

I'm a lot like MsKanga. I go for a drive too except I prefer to drive out into the country and just wander.

Shopping is good too except I find impulse shopping more of a danger when I'm upset.
