What do you do on your first day?

You've never eaten there? I think you'll really enjoy it. That is our standard first night dinner now. We always order the grilled salmon on mixed greens with fennel and baby potatoes (with a fruit pot for dessert so we can have that for a quick breakfast the next morning). I'm not a pasta fan but DD said the pasta is really good too.

Nope never eaten there in ALL of our trips ........... I know how can that be

Actually of our 15 nights this trip Paul and I are trying out 9 new restaurants which just goes to prove no matter how many times you go there is ALWAYS something new to experience

We strategize as well, but we always hit the ground running on the first day because we are up so early we make the most of it.

We always plan a short day and relax so we can get to bed at a normalish time for the kids.

This trip we are going to MK because our first day in the parks is our Daughters 4th birthday.

A few years ago when DS's were about 2 and 4 we thought we would take it easy and went and did some shopping at costco - had one very confused and upset 4 year old who thought we had gone back home and were shopping in Costco there and he had missed his holiday

Since then we have always done the magic kingdom on our first day.

Nothing wrong with that plan at all! We do similar and only once has MK been our first day because it was the better park for that day crowd wise.

For some the choice of park is a tradition. For us, it's a strategy. Either way, you can't really go that wrong if it's based on what matters to you.

Arrival night is DTD for us so we can get vouchers, Will Call and/or gift cards and Photopass sorted out and have dinner so as not to waste time in the park on our first full day. So far there has been no reason to change that so we are planning the same for this year.

Can I be nosey and ask what vouchers you are getting from DTD? Do all visitors need to collect vouchers from DTD or is it something in particular you are going for?

Also is photopass linked in with memory maker and is it worth it? Do you have to queue up to get a photo from a Dsiney snapper I'm not sure how it works

I suspect that Lee is referring to exchanging vouchers for tickets, collecting the gift card that comes with the WDTC booking and stuff like that.

Photopass is no more, Memory Maker has replaced it. You will spot the photographers all over the Disney parks, they have quite a distinctive uniform - oh, and a massive camera in their hand (some have a camera on a tripod, depending where they are - particularly at night). Sometimes, depending on the location, there can be a short wait to have pictures taken if there are other people waiting but not long. Just approach any photographer you see and ask if they will take photos. If there are people waiting, just wait behind them and the photographer will get to you

Yes, you are correct I should have clarified to avoid confusion, but I ordered Photopass just before the MM switch and have opted to keep it so I will need to go collect my voucher. Also, we got a gift card with our package so again, as Joh stated, that is what we are going to fetch.

The other vouchers I referred to are just general reference going over the past trips we have done because we did three in the the Fall and changed our online purchased tickets for the Halloween Party for actual tickets there too. I find DTD is easier to leave once you've done what you need to do so it works for us. Even with the long journey, we would push the limits too much if we went to a park on our arrival night.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I was interested to read that you can collect passes etc from DTD -- I had always assumed that you could only do this from the main parks. Does that mean i would be able to pick up our PAP's from DTD if so where would we need to go in order to do this?

Hijacking too- can you get your mvmcp tickets changed there too? Our 1st evening will be at downtown disney as we get in late so will be good to do it all at once.

Yes, you can collect PAPs from Guest Services at DTD (near Tren-D and what used to be Team Mickey). See map

Yes, you can collect MVMCP tickets at DTD too.

We always go for a really early breakfast at crystal palace and then stay in mk until early afternoon when we start to flag a little. Like most Brits on the first day we are all up and raring to go at stupid o clock! We always stay on property so go back and have a rest around 2pm then we just play it by ear. Have followed this routine for 20 years now and next time we go we will do the same.
