What do you do in line?

When you are waiting in line what do you do to pass away the time? How do you entertain the kids? Do you bring any games or do you have any you play?
I'm looking for ideas.

Sorry I can't help regarding entertaining kids but when I'm standing in line I talk to the person I am with and the people around me.

Hi there,

We play eye-spy (how come kids never get sick of this game).

I've seen some kids with gameboys but I dont allow mine to take theirs into the parks in case they lose them.

Also at tetchy moments a small lollipop diverts their attention (shuts them up)

We also just chat amongst ourselves and plan what to do next etc.

Next year when we go I'm going to try to talk to the families in front and behind more!

We took little bottles of bubbles with us, you can get them at craft stores, usually sold around the wedding stuff, we would blow bubbles and our 2 year old would just have a blast, so did half the other bored kids standing in line, they were a hit.

My son is 4 this year and we still plan on taking some, he is old enough to blow them himself and I think that will add to the fun, even some of the adults had a good time when we were blowing them.

I had a few candies (those "bite-size" M&M's, etc. work well as long as you also have a few frozen water bottles in your backpack to keep them from melting), and "WDW for Kids" guidebook to read and study. But seriously, with the use of Fastpass and getting there early, we never waited in a line longer than 20 minutes (Kali River, and Jungle Cruise). And when we were in those lines, the queing areas had lots of things to look at.

We don't have kids to occupy but what hubby and I do is rub each other's tired shoulders and sore muscles. What a great way to pass the time! We always see people turning to their spouses and saying "why don't you do that to ME!??!!"

We like to talk to others around if they're not just total commandos who can't focus on anything other than the front of the line.

We usually won't wait in a line that will be more than 20 or 30 minutes because DD and I also have to amuse DH so he doesn't leave the line and wander off to eat or drink.

either I bring my gameboy or we play a game we invented called the movie game. There is an easy version and a harder version. Great for adults and older kids

Easy Version:

Player 1 names an actor, player 2 names a movie that actor is in, then player 2 names another actor in that movie, player 3 names a movie that the second actor was in, etc. If there are only 2 players then it just bounces back and forth.

Ex. Player 1 - Tom Cruise, Player 2 - Days of Thunder, Player 2 - Nicole Kidman, Player 3 (or 1,4,5,6,etc) - Moulin Rouge, etc, repeat.

Hard Version:

Player 1 names two actors who appear in at least one film together, Player 2 names the film. Next Player 2 takes the second actor, thinks of another movie that actor is in, thinks of another actor in that movie and names the 2 actors. Player 3 (or 1 if only two players) names the movie, and repeat.

Ex. Player 1 - Bruce Willis & Ben Affleck, Player 2 - Armageddon, Player 2 - Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Player 3 (or 1,4,5,6, etc)
Gigli.

Note: In the hard version, the player may guess any movie that has the 2 actors or actresses in it, not just the one you are thinking of. Ex. If player one says Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Player 2 could say any of the following movies and be right - Mallrats, Dogma, Good Will Hunting, etc.

This game can be played for hours. Often my husband and his sister are playing it on the RIDE not just in line which drives me nuts.

If you've been filming your vacation and have your video camera with you, a good way to pass the time is to playback and watch the footage you have so far, especially if you're camera has a viewfinder that's on the outside, so other people can watch too. Otherwise, being a kid myself, I would bust out my Discman to listen to. That way, you can sort of zone out for awhile and forget you're in line. Hope this helps.

When I was at Peter Pan earlier this summer, there was a mother with 2 sons in front of me in the line. The whole time we waited they were having a ball quizing each other with Disney trivia. If I weren't so shy, I'd have asked to join in!

Reapply sunblock. This is especially good if it is hot, as fresh sunblock actually acts as shade; your skin suddenly feels much cooler.

I have taught my kids the "ABC travel game" - the first player gets the letter A and says something like: I'm going to Albania by airplane where I will do artwork. The next player could say, I'm going to Boston by boat to buy bricks, etc. I think some versions have each player repeating what the other players said, but my little one is only 4, so she does well to think of things for her own letter I'm surprised at how well this entertains her. My kids will start playing this in the car when they're bored. I hope it will work in line at Disney I also plan to bring bubbles (don't worry - we won't get them on others ) and for the boring waits in the airport, a small ball to toss Also, travel sized magnadoodles and a deck of cards. I don't think card games would work in line though

We invested in the Magical Moments games (they were Christmas gifts) for DD and DS who were 6 & 9 on our last trip. There were times when they saved our sanity, since the holiday period was quite crowded. For anyone who is interested, they're a bit like a gameboy, with a whole bunch of Disney games. Individual games are activated when you get close to the appropriate ride (you have to approach a certain area) and the kids thought they were a blast. If that fails, or you don't get to one of the parks, they can be manually activated too (also necessary if you replace the batteries). Nice children might be able to share one, but mine each needed one.

The games are: Cinderella Castle, Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller Coaster, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Tough to be a Bug, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Carribean, Big Thunder Mountain, Test Track, Small World, Walt Disney Studios, Kilamanjaro Safari, Space Mountain, and Dinosaur.

The games were $19.99 (if I remember correctly) and were widely available at Disney hotel and theme park gift shops. My kids each received a voucher (hand-made) for Christmas which they could redeem for one of the games once we arrived.

Needless to say, they'll be going back with us in December.

My kids learned to yo-yo while waiting in line at WDW. The yo-yos are inexpensive and fit in your pocket.
My DS (19) still yo-yos.....and now he's really good!!

Well, being me, I enjoy making impersonations (

"I PITY DA FOO!" and practicing comedy acts and "one-liners" when talking to other people. I would LOVE to be a comedian. I also like to talk about plans for the rest of the day and talk about all the stuff we want to buy.

P.S.: If you see a girl about 12-13ish with REALLY dark brown hair and red streaks in DL check to see if she has a comedy act! I may just be me!

May I suggest that whatever activity people choose to do while waiting in line won't be intruding into the other waiting in line's space?

I mean, it is fine to have the kids play with their game boys, coloring, even putting together Legos and finding letters all around, but doing things like blowing bubbles and racing around could annoy others in line that may not always be willing to go along.
