What do you do for YOU?

I never really thought about doing something just for me. I don't know what I'd do. :confused3 I've lost 8 pounds and when I lose about 10 more I guess I'll go out and buy some cute new clothes.

I never had a pedicure before I got pregnant but now I am hooked. So every so often - mainly when my Mom has DS - I go for a pedicure. I love the massage chairs, and it feels so good to have your feet soaking and then massaged. Its $27 and its my little escape.

Of course the maid that comes every 3 weeks is also for me. I started it while on maternity leave and now I just cant give it up. I do some lite cleaning in between. But she does the heavy duty stuff. She vacuums, cleans the bathrooms, mops, dusts, changes the sheets, etc. Its worth $55 for me. And since DS is 11 mths old and into everything these days I cant take my eye off of him long enough to do heavy cleaning. DH is gone most weekends too so its the only way the house gets clean.

I get weekly manicures. In the summer I get pedicures every 2 - 3 weeks. Massages are not as often as I'd like, probably only once or twice a year.

I also go out to either lunch or dinner at least once a month with friends and my husband and I try to get out to dinner w/friends or by ourselves at least once a month also.

Our law firm recently remodeled. The public spaces are bighter and more modern, but the only change in the attorneys' offices were changing outdated maroon carpeting for new ugly carpeting. This August I celebrated my 20th anniversary with the firm. So for ME, I decorated my office. I scrounged around and used mostly "firm" furniture, BUT I bought a bright custom made chartruese modern leather couch, two very cool lamps and a few accessories. Total outlay was around $1900. I started to realize that I am here in my office WAY more than I am in any room of my house, so it was time to spend some money to make ME happy there.

I'm a huge reader so my favorite "me" time has always been to go hide and read somewhere. When dd was little, even if I was on the couch and she was playing in the same room or her bedroom, it worked out fine.

Now that she's older, I have more time for me so I make scrapbooks and other crafty things and work in my garden in the spring/summer/fall.

Doing something for yourself doesn't have to cost anything--nor do you need to completely have the house to yourself or someone to watch the kids--sometimes you can make time for yourself right in your very own home at very little cost. I spent time reading from the time dd was a baby. She was used to me reading for pleasure and became a big reader herself. Everyone needs time to recharge--especially moms.

Well, for an absolute wasteful splurgefest, I go for tickets to some kind of live show, preferably good rock concert (Aerosmith...2 weeks)! I'm not kidding, it's one of my favorite things on earth. Really wierd, I know.

But mainly DH is good about coming home and seeing the look in my eyes and saying "I've got the kids, you get in the bath with a book and a glass of wine!" That is the best! :flower:

PLEASE tell me how to make that face!!! I need to practice!!! ;)

I would love to go for massages every once in a while, but I am WAY to ticklish...tried & it was torture. Same with pedicures...but I usually suffer through a few times a summer.

To answer the OP's question...the only thing I do for myself is that I pay a rediculously high rate at my hair salon - but I love how they do my hair & I feel great when I leave.
