What do you do for laundry detergent?

We use Dropps also. Bought them at Bed Bath & Beyond for $1.99. One package does 15 loads I think.

We usually rent a car and hit a target and purchase some inexpensive detergent and leave the leftovers for the members coming in after us (unless, of course, mousekeeping takes it).. but on a few trips when we asked for more coffee (? can't remember) the mousekeeper asked if we needed more detergent, and we said why not, and she handed us a few of those tide boxes and didn't charge us.

I recently used Dropps for our last DCL cruise and for our BCV stay two weeks ago - I went to our local laundromat and purchased three tide boxes (75 cents a box).

:thumbsup2
We pack as many as ten snack bags of powdered detergent and an equal number of bags of powedered bleach in our timeshare bag when we travel to any timeshare (including DVC). We never have had any trouble. With everything else in our timeshare bag, the detergent probably does not look very suspicious.

I have done this too.....and I also bring a spray and wash stain stick and dryer sheets. Saves money buying it at home. Now that we have an owner locker for our Nov. trip....I will buy big size products to keep in there.

I've been timesharing for years. And, I always just premeasure the powder in snack size ziploc baggies. You don't really need that many and they don't weigh that much. I throw in dryer sheets too. I put this in my checked luggage. I've never tried with a roll-on but I doubt it is against the rules as long as it isn't liquid.

I like the coke bottle idea though. I'll have to remember that. I figured if I'm packing less clothes I can add a few ounces of detergent and it won't effect the weight of my luggage.

We have an Owner's Locker and love it for just this reason. We can store things such as laundry detergent and not have to worry about bringing it back and forth each time we head to our "Happy Place." That said, we did fly in and out of a smaller airport once that didn't have the equipment to check your bags and they searched through the luggage. I had to remove my powdered laundry detergent because they said it was a hazardous material. Luckily, our car was parked right outside the airport doors and I could put everything back in the trunk. I have never had any trouble when I was flying through bigger airports, but just that once made me hesitate each time to put something in my luggage.

Everyone but DH is allergic to detergents with fragrances so I bring a plastic 16 ounce Coke bottle filled with Tide-Free HE and labeled as such. For some reason, the Coke bottle travels better than other bottles I have tried - shampoo, body wash, etc.

Can I tell you that I fell in love with the LG Tromms at BCV on our trip last month?

LG Tromms??? Is that a front loader?

Do they make them for HE washers and also are they for sensitive skin?

They are HE approved and the ones I have are fragrance and enzyme free.

Isn't there some detergent already in the DVC units when you arrive? I thought two small boxes of Tide were there last time (one load each) - depends on how much you wash I guess. We bought some liquid there and keep it in the Owners Locker.

They are rated for HE washers, so you're good there.

There are two different "kinds":

Scented

Scent Free/Dye Free

The Scent Free/Dye free are also enzyme free, which means they'd probably work for you for sensitive skin.

We have bought both kinds...typically using the Scent Free/Dye Free on the baby's clothes. It works as well as (though obviously doesn't smell as nice as) Dreft, for us.

We've seen them at both Target and Walmart....as well as Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Heck, even our local grocery store (Price Chopper) has had them on occasion.

Front-loader, HE, and with more choices of cycles than I have ever seen - plus the end-of-cycle signal sounds more like chimes or music.

I have a new Kenmore HE machine at home so I am not unfamiliar with the new HE machines - however, I regret not looking more closely at the Tromm when we purchased.

I have a Front Loader too.. Whirlpool Duet and I love it and matching dryer. Do the laundry rooms at BCV have these LG ones????

BCV, yes, at least they did when I was there August 21-25Sadly, not at AKV (yet?)

We stay in villas so we have they have the stackables there. I have never even been in a laundry room at the DVC resorts but I heard that BCV only had a couple of them right? I wonder why that is??

Just a little warning for those of you trying Dropps...they are pretty fragile so do not pack them near anything that could weigh down on them. I had the unfortunate experience of one dropps packet getting a hole in it. As the detergent leaked, the other packets disintegrated!:scared1: the container they come in isn't really sturdy, so I would repack into some kind of hard container before travel.:lovestruc

Thanks for the tip!

I'm in the minority but I just cough up a $2 for the little box at the VWL store if I do so much laundry that I use up what they give me when we arrive and on T&T day. I'm just not that into doing laundry on my vacation and don't want to worry about leakage if I brought my own.
