Help! As you can see by the time, 1:26am in the East, I am having a terrible time sleeping with the snoring going on.

I know my husband has sinus troubles, and the dry air is irratating, but we are running a humidifier.

Any one have any other ideas?

It is really a problem for me, not him:sad2: as he is the one sleeping.

Kathleen

(I posted this here because the other places I post are a bit scary at times, and I am afraid of what might be said...:scared1:)

So sorry

I hate listening to people snore...which is ironic because I snore like a truck driver. It's awful. Tara keeps things handy to throw at me when we share a room...and if I had to sleep with me I'd kill me.

That said: I am hard of hearing so that helps a bit. I plug up my hearing ear with earplugs or I listen to an audiobook on my Ipod. That really helps. It's like listening to someone tell a bedtime story as you fall asleep. At some point I realize I haven't heard a word being said and I take off the headphones. By that time I'm almost asleep and I usually fall right off.

And if not.....there's always the couch....:flower3:

Have you tried "Breathe Right" strips...they open up your airway and sometimes that helps. I snore when I'm sick and that's the only thing that keeps my husband from killing me in my sleep ;).

The ear plugs are a great idea. ::yes::

Has he seen a specialist? If not, that would be a good idea as there may be something going on that can be corrected. Snoring (all the time) is generally a sign of something wrong (Rosie????).

Does giving him a jiggle and having him move his position, help at all?

My husband snores and is a very sound sleeper. If he disturbs me (which is very rare) I hold his nose. It disturbs him and he rolls over which always helps the snoring.

The funny thing is that I can hear him snoring while I am downstairs watching TV and he is upstairs sleeping. Once I'm sleeping (right next to him) I am almost never disturbed.

For the dry air, add Ayr nasal gel to the routine. Not gonna go into the gross reasons why.

Is this a year long problem, or only in the winter with the dry air? Have you tried new pillows that will align his neck into a more neutral position. I know (or should say I have been told) I snore when in dip my chin to my chest.

My wifey 2 b feels your pain. I too snore :guilty: and she suffers. We've tried the Breathe Right Strips, but their uncomfortable to me. I do ALL the wrong things, I know. We sleep with the ceiling fan on AND a stand up fan, PLUS we have the sound machine. It's really comical, the room is VERY loud and breezy!! Oh, and I sleep with a sleep mask because I HAVE to have it pitch dark. Again, my wifey feels your pain. She tries to get in bed and fall asleep before me, otherwise, she's nudging me to roll back over on my stomach. We've noticed I only snore on my back. We've talked about couples who sleep apart due to snoring, but it's not an option for us. We need the "connection" of being together in the bed at night. I wish I had an answer, but I think for some of us, its' the way it's gonna be!

My partner snores and I'm one of the lightest sleepers you could ever meet. I'll hear a pin drop in the room down the hall. It's something we battle.

Breath-rite strips end up on his forehead or eyebrow half way through the night. We've tried this spray that you can buy at pharmacy's that seems to work sometimes on his "light snoring" nights, but it's not 100% effective. I found that if he's had a couple cocktails, he's worse.

He has good and bad nights.

I've just learned to go sleep in the other bedroom if it gets bad so I have a good nights sleep. He didn't snore when we first met, but that was 35 pounds ago. He's in the process of shedding the weight he's gained and I'm crossing fingers that it corrects the problem since I know weight gain can be a huge part of it.

We've even looked into this simple out patient surgery that puts these "stints" behind the skin on the roof of your mouth. I know, it sounds horrible, but they say it's quite simple. They're doing it here in Dallas. It prevents the flap of skin from from vibrating when they breathe in, which causes the snoring noise. I'm really avoiding having him doing this procedure, but he's found out that people who snore don't necessarily get a good nights sleep either.

Chris used to snore to the point where I would tape record him to let him know how bad it was. It turned out he had severe sleep apnea and now sleeps with a C-pap machine. Unfortunately now, I snore like a maniac - the weight I put on doesn't help. He now sleep with ear plugs and they work well. I couldn't wear them. I feet clogged up with them and I'd be a wrecj if I couldn't hear LOL.

Maybe he should consider a sleep study. As much of a pain the c-pap was at first - Chris will not sleep one night without it. It goes everywhere.

Good luck!

I want one of those machines. I am almost positive that lack of oxygen contributes to my migraines. My Dr. ordered a sleep study...but insurance refused to pay for it and it costs over $3000.

The breathe right strips help me only slightly. Sleeping in a reclining chair so that I'm mostly upright helps even more....but there's no room for James and that's no fun. :headache:

Awww Rosie.

I won't get started on the health insurance thing... :headache::headache::headache:

So sorry, Mr. Z... but this made me :rotfl2:!

Thanks for the giggle!

As for the snoring thing... I love it and it never bothers me (odd, I know). I have trouble sleeping without him snoring. Sometimes Nelson will fall asleep on the couch watching TV and I have to go wake him and drag him to bed so he can "snore me to sleep". :confused3

I too am a snorer. DP was usually able to sleep with it but would kick me when she couldn't to get me to roll over. I have recently been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea.

If any of you snorers or snoring partners are also tired all the time or fall asleep anywhere you might want to look into it. DP was after me for 2 years saying my sleepiness wasn't normal. (I fell asleep during movies, at meetings etc.) This past August I fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a guard rail. I was fine and Thank God I didn't hurt anyone. I got top of the waiting list for a sleep study and having been on the CPAP machine ever since.

I am fortunate that my insurance does cover it. Rosie is there anyway of fighting with your insurer for proof that it's a health hazard with the migraines and being deprived of oxygen? I don't know, that stinks.

I either jab DH or shout at him to roll over. But the most effective thing is for me to sleep on the couch until he gets up to get ready for work (around 1 AM) then I move to the bed.

Just got in from a killer day at work...and I am so sorry so many seem to have this same issue in their lives. Jenn I just don't know woman, how you need this to sleep!:scared1:

For now my husband is sleeping in the spare room, surrounded by my sewing projects and half finished quilts. I just need to get sleep, and it isn't happening with this level of snoring.

I am trying to get him to go for the study, I am sure it is something serious. No one could sound like this without a reason!

Rosie - I'm surprised Insurance will not cover it - can your Dr speak with them possibly? Ignoring Sleep Apnea can cause much more severe issues - even death!

I hate Insurance companies!

OP - good luck! Do what I did - tape him LOL.

I received a letter from my provider saying it wasn't covered under my policy. I haven't yet gone back into my original papers to see if there was a specific exclusion. If there's not then maybe I can get my Dr. to press the matter.

It's rotton!!

Rosie - Might I suggest this for your snoring -

Pluse - James will have a nicer view in the morning. :thumbsup2

I'm holding up 5 fingers...one of them is for you. The middle one to be exact....

It's called "HELPING" Rosie.
One usually says "thank you".
:sad2:
