What do you do about snoring!!!

Rosie

i would recommend a huge fight with the insurance company. The wife and I were both diagnosed with sleep apnea. I stopped breathing an average of 63 times an hour and was considered a mild case. Now we both use our machines and are reclaiming our lives back. Even a bad night now is better than a good night just a year ago. I wish you the best.

My DH is a horrible snorer. Huge fights have taken place because of it. It's also genetic. His father was a horrible snorer too. He refuses to quit smoking, lose the beer belly etc. He snores so loud that you can hear him three rooms away. Definitely has sleep apnea, but if he refuses to get help, what can you do?

Now you know why we don't stay on-property at Disney. NO ONE would sleep. We get a three bedroom condo so the kids and I can sleep at night. It's really sad.

I have used a Snore Guard Mouthpiece for about a year now. It really works and I sleep better too. You can buy one online (Amazon.com) and others. It is a clear, medium-soft, plastic piece like the ones that athletes wear. You have to fit it to your mouth so that your lower jaw moves forward about 1/4 inch. This prevents your soft pallet from "falling back" toward the the back of your mouth. It is (for most people) this soft pallet obstruction that causes the snoring. The mouth piece takes a few nights to get used to, but now I hardly notice it. Good luck!

I have thought about one of these. They are relatively inexpensive so I will definitely give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

There are lots of people who snore while sleeping. And its very big trouble for their sleeping partner. I am too suffering with this problem. Many time my husband told me about it. I am helpless in this matter.

Do everything/anything you can to get into a sleep study. If this is sleep apnea it isn't just about keeping others up or being tired. It could save a life.
My father snored when I was growing up, so it never bothered me that my husband snored. What bothered me was the fact that he would stop breathing on and off through the night, for 30 seconds or more at a time. I told him about this and found out that none of his previous girlfriends had ever told him about this! He went in to a sleep study and before two hours were up, they had him on a cpap and he had his first full nights sleep in years.
We call it the miracle machine. He sleeps much better now, has way more energy, and I don't get woken up by either the sound or the even scarier lack of sound.
But here's the sadder story. My sister in law had always snored, and refused and refused to go in for a sleep study. When she finally was pretty much forced to (training a four year old to cry pitifully about 'mommy dying' was probably unethical, but it worked), it turned out that not only had she been going without sleep, but that the lack of oxygen had actually killed about 25% of her heart and had been killing brain cells.
Sleep studies aren't fun, but they aren't invasive or even that uncomfortable and they could save your life! The new cpap's are very comfortable and small and don't cause much problem at all. My husband's is the size of maybe a four soda cans and the mask only covers his nose.
