What do you do about all the "what if" worries before a trip?

I'm going nuts wondering about "what ifs"!!

What if we don't make it thru all the construction on I-94

What if we don't make the plane!!

What if they don't have a rental car ready for us.

What if I forget tickets, CCs, my wallets etc!

You probably know some of the "what if" scenerios!! What do you do to calm yourself down two days before a big trip!!

I'm at 3 days and my big worry is:

What if this is all a dream and i'm really not going!!!

ppphhhh..........that would never happen.

I'm a well orginized person when it comes to planning WDW vacations, so I don't get as flipped out as you might be!

My suggestion would be to make a check list, if you haven't already, and add items such as wallet, credit cards, and airplane tickets, that way you don't forget valuable items!!

I tend to freak out that we'll miss our flight, and the only thing that calms me down is to arrive at the airport 2 hours before our flight is schedueled to take off.

You might just have the "Pre Disney Vacation Jitters." In this case, forget about the 'what ifs' and just concentrate on having a fabulous trip!

Kitty34,
I'm the QUEEN of what if!!! If I don't have something to worry about I worry that I should be worried about something I'm forgetting(just confused even myself with that one!!)

Relax, everything will go just great! You're obviously a Disney Pro!! Have a great time!!

Ok, this may sound profound lol. But just remember that nothing matters more than your families health and safety. So no matter what might go wrong, as long as you're all ok, don't let it ruin your trip! And try to have a sense of humor about it too, vacation mishaps make for great stories later on! LOL!!

But to prevent any of that, I agree that making a list is the best thing to do! Write EVERYthing down on it, even the tiniest stupid little things. Then, as you leave you can read your list and know that you've done all you can do. And once you leave, try to let go of any worries and just enjoy your trip. Don't worry about stuff that most likely won't even happen! ;)

Have a MAGICAL trip!!! I bet you will!! :sunny:

What I do before trip is I set out a box on a table and everytime I think of something to take I toss it in the box. That way I am certain not to forget it. My DH worries alot which drives me nuts because I am then stressed out from babysitting him and my 2 year old son!

You'll have a fun time, always leave early for the important destinations like the airport, and if you forget something I am sure we sell it down here in Florida!:earsgirl:

Construction on I-94 is a way of life. I can't think of a summer in my lifetime where there wasn't any construction on 94. And yet, I've always managed to get to where I"m going ;) Just allow extra travel time. If it means getting to the airport even earlier than you'd like, that's ok, better to be there than stuck on the highway.

I take 2 Benadryl, 1 hour before I go to bed at night to prevent lying there worrying!::yes::

It helps ME! :Pinkbounc

When it gets slow at work, normally months in advance I sit and make list upon list, upon list...I break it down with my list, DH Clothes list, Stuff to take, Stuff to do (like stop mail and paper etc), Stuff to buy, Stuff to do last minute (like shut off hot water heater), Stuff to put in carry on...that way I have alot of lists and can add things as I think about it. I make lists to add to the lists at work too....I guess I am a CRAZY LIST LADY, and I used to make fun of my Mom for making lists...she was right....

I too am a crazy list person. And I used to worry NO MATTER where I was going... even to visit my Mom for a weekend. But I started realizing that as long as we had the irreplaceable items (glasses, prescriptions, each other ;) ) we could buy whatever else. So the only things I REALLY worry about when leaving for WDW is... plane tickets, park hoppers, glasses, prescription RX, wallets, keys!! Sure, I would feel bad if I left a special treat for the kids or my camera behind, but I try hard to keep it all in perspective. (Of course, don't think that doesn't mean I am not thinking about "what did I forget" right up until the moment the plane takes off!)

But I also keep a pad and pencil by my bed.... if I think of something during the night I turn on the light and write it down and go back to sleep. Then I'm not worried that I won't remember it in the morning!! HTH.....................P

Thanks everyone for some great reassuring ways to rid the "what ifs"! I have lists to tell me about other lists, I'm that nuts but in the long run it is very helpful!!:teeth:

And yes, I agree with Liznboys, as long as we make it there safe and sound everything else is replaceable!!!

The Benedryl, Stacilee, is a great idea, too........or maybe a glass of wine!!!

Thanks again everyone!:wave2:

I am a What Iffer too. I have started keeping a note pad and pen nextto my bed, so when I think of something I write it down and go back to sleep. That way I don't lay there trying to be sure to remember it in the morning. I drive my husband nuts with the what ifs, I just tell him that if I plan for the worst I will be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen. LOL

You cant do much about these except leave early or maybe stay at an airport hotel the night before.

What if they don't have a rental car ready for us.

Your on vacation. While this would be frustrating, maybe the delay has kept something else from happening. (I once missed an exit and had to keep going for 20 miles before I could get off and turn around. When I finally made it back there was a car accident and I have always thought that maybe someone was watching out for me and made sure I missed the exit so I wasn't a part of the accident.) Take a deep breath and laugh about it when you get there, or tell the rental agency that you are really upset and ask for an upgrade or discount to make up for the incenvenience. (Hey it's worth a try.)

What if I forget tickets, CCs, my wallets etc!

I try to put these in my purse early on and then I put a list on the doornob or my steering wheel just to be sure.

Just remeber all the fun you will have when you get there. It will all be worth it! Have fun!:)

I just had to post about the picture of your beautiful boys! They remind me of my three when they were little. They're huge now, ages 10, 12 and 14. I don't see sets of three like mine too often, so I just had to comment. You're very blessed!

You can't let your worry run away with you. My best advice:
+leave extra time
+put it in perspective, as liznboys says
+make lists
+imagine a typical day & what you'd do -- it'll help you see what you need to keep in mind -- this is also fun!

My 2nd best advice is sort of about "thinking through" as well... I always put together a spreadsheet -- yes a spreadsheet! -- of my trip. Each row is a day. In column 1, I put the early entry info, at the right I put a column of info about parades, fireworks, special events, ressie #s, etc., i.e., anything I would need to remember but might forget in the rush of things. I decorate the spreadsheet w/ Disney clipart & color the columns & rows in bright colors. It makes it for for me & everyone in our party.

Stop worrying and have a terrific time!!

When I was packing for our last trip, my husband was laughing at the mess of stuff in our home office. I was throwing bottles of water in the suitcases, and my husband said, "You know, they have water in California too..."

Sometimes, I'd like to smack him, but then he had a point.

I do pack like a deamon and worry (because that's just how I am), but I figure as long as I have our plane tickets (or whatever e-tickets require these days), park tickets, prescription meds, extra contact lenses and aspirin/tylenol/advil for the flight for uach of us (yes, we all take different things), we can get anything else we may need when we get there!

Don't worry, be happy. You're going to Disney!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:
