What do you Cook in the DVC Kitchen?

When I'm on vacation at DVC - I cook nothing. If I have to cook, I don't consider it a vacation.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree.

However, I do wind up cooking - a bit. We're in a 2 bedroom at SSR and we get sick of restaurant food rather quickly. So I'll make easy dinners, like ravioli, caesar salad and garlic bread. Then maybe tuna melts with fresh fruit. Beef tacos and spanish rice another night.

By the way, happy 25th anniversary!!

I have a hard time cooking in the DVC villas. I think, it is because it is more on the go type vacation where you really don't have time to make a healthy meal. We generally don't like the taste of process foods. My kids prefer my homemade pancakes over frozen ones, steel cut oats over instant oatmeal, etc.. So, cooking becomes a chore at DVC. Anyways, I have found some success with Rachael Ray recipes. She tends to use a lot of convenience food so, it does come in handy.

I don't have this same problem with our other timeshare vacations as there is more down time.

I like the ideas so keep them coming..

Is there a Trader Joe's in Orlando?

Nothing but coffee,
Melissa will sometimes toast an english muffin.
When we are on vacation,
we let the Disney chef's do the cooking

DVCconvert: Well--they are hot anyway.:)
.......MRs U wanted me to add that a few years back, her mom stayed with us and one night we went out while her mom stayed behind and had a frozen TV dinner in the micro.
......

Tell Mrs U...that she just might as well drive a (medium rare) Stake thur my heart!!!!.....over the years, I've idolized you guys!!!.....what's next?!?!?!?....are ya gonna tell me that cheese whiz is your preferred appetizer???? :rotfl2:

;) ;) ;)

We have made pizza, buying the pre made dough, then adding our own sauce and fixins. Also made spaghetti with jar sauce. 2 fairly easy meals without a lot of hassle. We never thought we would mkae meals while on vacation, but its actually nice and relaxing without the hassle of eating out. Dont get me wrong, we love to eat at WDW, but just for the change, and like you say, anything to stay in a 1 bed:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

By the way, happy 25th anniversary!!

Thanks. I can't wait for our 25th Anniversary trip. First HHI, then a stopover in St. Augustine and we end our trip in the BCV. We spent part of our Honeymoon in WDW so we figured we should spend at least part of our 25th Anniversary trip in WDW.

:scared: Sorry. Off topic a bit.

We spent part of our honeymoon at WDW too, combined with a cruise. On our 20th anniversary in May last year, guess where we were. Right - back at WDW, with the kids!!

:wave2: Okay. Back on topic.

I'm not sure if anyone has used gardengrocer to purchase groceries, but from my experience it's the best. It's also a great site to review to get ideas for meals at WDW.

Coffee, breakfast cereal, toast is about it for us. Although we do purchase our soda and adult beverages at Publix and Wal-Mart to save on the cost.

microwave popcorn and gin and tonics (not sure if either can be classified as cooking).

This year we made breakfast foods, a few lunches, and for dinner my wife premade meatballs, and we made spaghetti there. Mostly we ate on teh run, or had ADR's while we were there.

This will be our first DVC trip and we're planning on doing mostly breakfasts in the room and a couple dinners. We do have a couple character breakfasts planned and most nights we have ADR's. We'll probably take some pancake mixes, eggs, bacon, cereal bars, fruit and cereal for breakfasts. As for dinners, we're only planning on doing 2 in the room so it will probably be spaghetti and steaks.

I fully stock the kitchen for our trips. We will be going down with 6 boys this year all 18 for their HS graduation. :scared1: I make a pan of Lasagna, chicken and steak fajitas, chicken caesars salad, hamburgers and Italian sausages, pork chops and sloppy joes. We will have breakfast and linner:laughing: in the rooms. Last year they slept until noon, went to the pool and then ate a late lunch and headed to the parks for the night. There were 3 of them last year and I went through 6 boxes of frosted flakes, I think I'll need to buy stock in Kellogg for this years trip!!:rotfl:

We do very Little cooking But.....
we have a Mickey Mouse Waffle Iron and it fits nicely into checked luggage along with a box or Krusteaz Belgian Waffle Mix, And if you are really brave you can pack the eggs in one of those plastic egg carriers like those used for camping and fly with those as well.

We stock:
Brownie mix
Cookie Dough
Frozen Crab meat (heh, we are from Baltimore and have GREAT crabmeat)
Milk
Juice
Dip, chips
snack vegggies and salad fixins
Pasta
Steak
Chicken Breasts
Sliced ham
Tortillas
Cheese
Eggs
Jello
a few spices in a compact set.

I was enormously disgusted with 08' DDP and in 3/08 we ate great, casual dining at OKW and saved a ton on liquor (We saved the world with those little brown bottles and aluminum cans!:rotfl: )

I made 2 layer cookie/brownies......a whole tray and they were gone in NO time while playing late night card games.
We had a great chicken/italian sausage over pasta with a cream sauce with a great wine.
Breakfast with killer home fries (and ham steaks)
We made ham/cheese tortilla rollups for "walking food"

We were quite pleased the Reedy Creek Fire Department did not have to make a stop, if they had we would have invited them in for a beer.:dance3:

I paid attention to making sure they kitchen was clean-I brought my clorox wipes.

I did leave it better than I found it, because when they brought all the missing kitchen items we did not steal them when we left!

why not use a left over chicken for chicken salad. You can put some on top of tomatoe as a salad or buy some pocket bread and put lettuce etc in it too.

I make margaritas and potato chips. :beach:

My one bedroom is for laundry and hot tub purposes only. ;)

Wow! I can see why you'll be cooking. Not to mention what 18 yo boys can eat between meals. "Fully stocked" for this trip is probably an understatement. You may never see the parks. You're way braver than I would be!

I make coffee. General Mills makes the Cheerios.

Very funny! :rotfl2:

We just do breakfast usually. Cereal, Eggs & Bacon, Pancakes, or My own Egg Sandwiches (totally stupid and simple, but my girls think they are the best thing ever! guess you can't beat mom's loving cooking? if you can call it that :lmao:)

We have done dinner before when we go with a bigger group (my parents, sister and sis's fiance). Grilled chicken or steak, baked potatos, and corn on the cob, Brats and sausages with fruit salad, Spaghetti and tossed salad, just simple quick stuff.

And that's when we have a 1 or 2 bedroom. If we're in a studio, that's all out the door and Nutrigrain bars and bananas it is for breakfast! :rotfl:

LoveMyDisneyCats - just my DH and I are going on our next trip in Sept. so we'll be in a studio at BWV. I told my DH he has two breakfast options - Room Service (my pick) or a quick trot down to the Boardwalk Bakery. He can't easily cook his usual "breakfast burrito" in a studio and he doesn't like to get dressed before he eats breakfast, so we'll see which one wins out.

I can do very well with just coffee and Cheerios, but I LOVE an occasional Room Service breakfast. :goodvibes
