What do YOU consider to be a clique thread?

I think everyone has a different idea of what a "clique" thread is.

Do you only consider threads like the Ya Ya's cliques?

What about game threads? Are they cliques?

How about the TV show threads? Cliques too?

Just wondering.

To me a clique thread is where people meet up who know each other well, have inside jokes and code words for other disers. Anyone stumbling into them (although we are told we are welcome) has no idea what anyone is talking about. When they bring their clique talk into other threads it just reinforces the group they have.

Now, since I don't go into them (I have peeked, I am lost) I do not know they are all that way but I know some are.

One definition might be: when the thread is more about people and personalities and less about a topic, it might be a clique.

When a thread contains daily "shout-outs" to all the regular posters, it's definitely a clique.

And when the participants talk in code or inside jokes that only they are privy to, it's absolutely a clique.

I don't think TV show threads are clique threads, since anyone that watches the show can join in, like the Idol thread there were people that popped in a lot and those that came in to it once in a while. The games I guess could get to be a clique if only the same people posted and they got really close and newbies felt unwelcome. Now a group like the ya-yas or cheerleaders is probably a bit like a clique, but since I don't even peek at them I don't really know. I just open what strikes my fancy and reply when I feel like it.

There are a few groups of posters here who are cliques. They talk in code about other DISers and they love to hijack threads. Not all cliques do these things but the ones that come to mind for me definitely do.

Guess this means the weekly NASCAR thread is definitely not a Clique Our only code or inside jokes are about NASCAR and any fan of the sport will understand.

I guess I would say that threads where most of the posts are inside jokes meant as personal PM's would qualify as clique threads. Game threads and movie threads and such are not, in my opinion. If I can get on them and respond and understand them, then they are not a clique!

A shout-out is just a hello. You'll see something along the lines of a roll-call: "hello jane, and mickey, and joe, and missy, and sarah, and donald, and mickey! How is everyone this morning?"

Check 'em out! Most are quite friendly, although you might not understand what the heck they're talking about at times.
