What do you consider "slow season"?

I went Jan 31 - Feb 6/07 and as far as the parks/rides went I loved it. We walked straight on to every single attraction. The resort was not as quiet. At that time of year there are 2 or 3 cheerleading competitions. The participants and their families were EVERYWHERE. However, I would return at that time of year without question.

That sounds great to me. We'll be there Jan.30th - Feb.5th this year! I've heard that our resort (ASMo) might have extra people because of a dance competition, but I can live with that if it doesn't make much difference in the parks.

We went the week of Sept 16, 2006. There weren't many in the parks (especially Mon thru Thursday). However, the heat was unbearable. Epcot and Animal Kingdom were particularly hot. Plus there were lovebugs swarming everywhere. I think they especially landed on people wearing white. We did get free dining, but we both swore we'd never be back during the heat again.

Our next trip hopefully is January 2009. I believe the crowds are low then also. I'm waiting to read some trip reports from this month. The only event I know of down there in January is the marathon.

Ditto. . . We went this past Sept. from 9/14 - 9/22. Now, don't get me wrong, we did have a great time. Afterall, it is Disney World and we are Disney fanatics, but we will never (and I mean never) go in September again. It was very crowded and very hot (I don't mean a little hot. I mean sweltering. When you came out of an air-conditioned ride and walked out in the heat it would take your breath way hot). I live in Alabama, I know what hot is and it was hot, hot hot. Did I mention it was hot?

It rained at least a little bit every afternoon we were there. On one day, without any warning, no menacing clouds or noticeable wind change, the sky just opened up and poured. It poured so hard, it was like the sky opened up and dumped a bucket of water on your head. There wasn't even time to put our ponchos on. By the time we drug everyone's ponchos out and put them on the rain stopped. We then left for our Ohana ADR looking like someone had just thrown us in the hotel pool - literally socked to the bone.

We did have awesome food on our trip. We ate at Chef Mickey's, Liberty Tree, Planet Hollywood, 50's Primetime Cafe, Garden Grill, Cinderella's Royal Table, Ohana (best meal we had), and Crystal Palce. We had ADRs for all and always had to wait at least 20 minutes for our table. Saw them turning away walk-ups at all restaurants. Counter service was not too crowded, but we tried to eat early around 11:30 a.m.

I am a faithful fan of the UG and if it weren't for knowing about their touring plans and knowing how to utilize the Fastpasss system the lines would not have been manageable. There was the occasion that you walked up to something in the late afternoon and there was only a 10 or 15 minute wait, but most of the headliners kept 30 minute or more waits. At MK on our last day Space Mountain had a 75 minute wait at 3:30 p.m! Now, to you Christmas week, Easter week, or July 4th people that probably doesn't sound too bad, but we specifically booked these dates for low crowds, and there were not now crowds.

When we left we had every intention of booking the Free Dining bounceback for next September that they were offering, but after the terrible heat and crowds my husband said he would happily pay the $1300 we saved on this trip and put it towards a slower, cooler time to visit.

We have previously been at the end of January into the first part of February and have also been end of November into first of December and those are the times we will be planning our future WDW vacations.

I don't want to rain on anybody's September Free Dining parade (excuse the pun), but I wanted to be honest about the heat and crowds so others will know what to expect and not be disappointed.

Yeah, I went the first week of August and we thought it was hot. That is why I decided to try the first week of December this time as well. Between it being less hot and being said like a level 3 of crowds on a scale of 1-10. But it was still warm enough to swim, but no too hot. The crowds though, I still thought were pretty high. Especially for MVMCP. I didn't know if MNNSHP would be crowded too. I was hoping to take DD some day, but if it's that hot I don't think the family could stand it. I do most of the planning to keep DH happy so he'll take me back :rotfl:And he hates the heat.

We are going the week of Feb 3rd. It's the week before President's day, so I'm not really sure how its going to be.

I went this week 2 years ago. Crowds were bad at all..except for the parade, which is always busy. We walked on a lot of rides. Longest wait was for Peter Pan I believe.

We generally go towards the end of September each year. We've generally had good weather, still hot so good for swimming. Crowds are thinner due to kids going back to school.

Free Dining does make the restaurants busier, so make sure you get your reservations early.

Also, I think the last week of September is when FD ends (if it is offered) and Food & Wine Festival starts. I am sure someone else knows that for sure. But, I think that brings in more crowds at that time.

Went from September 29-October 7 in 2007. Definitely more crowded than in 2005 - it's F&W Festival time, plus MNSSHP. We went to one of the Halloween parties and it was pretty packed (compared to previous years). I'd describe it as a "slower" time of year, compared to the really busy times like summer, Thanksgiving, and Christmas - but not the "slowest".

As others have said, free dining brings hoards of people. To get low crowds, you probably should avoid a free dining time. It's a trade-off, I guess; which would you rather have? Free dining or low crowds? It's hard to find both at the same time.

We went the week of Oct. 8th and I found the crowds to be weird. Many rides had 15-30min waits, which in my eyes is very good considering over three quaters of my trips were during school vacation weeks. The weird thing that I noticed this past October trip was that the little attractions had wicked long waits. Rides like "living with the land" had a 30min wait, The Norway boat ride had at least a 30min wait (it was out the building...in all the times ive been to epcot ive never seen that ride that busy), robinsons tree house was packed, tiki room was packed....I could go on and on. On the flip side rides like Pirates was like 10mins, splash mountain = walk on, tower of terror 10 mins. Very interesting I thought. These were all mid to late afternoons as well...we didnt make rope drop once as we are night people! We are looking to go this Coming November (late) or December (early)...Any suggestions?

we're beginning to think there just isn't a genuine "slow season" anymore - used to be right after labor day in september - free dining changed all that - and october/november also used to be quieter - of course, that was before super soap weekend and the food & wine festival....

we're trying next year the 2nd week of december, but i'm already reading on these boards not to expect that week to be as quiet as i'd hoped

maybe sometime in early january or may???

I'm interested in April or May...

I've been there end of Jan and end of Sept. Each time we walked onto all rides...ok maybe used fast pass for 2...but seriously just walked onto everything BF loved it! but I'd like to try the spring...any insight?

We have gone the first week of May on several occasions and feel that it is a great time to go! The weather is great and the crowds are reasonable. I agree that the days of a slow season at WDW are probably long gone but we have found the first week of May to be very tolerable in terms of crowds.
