What do you consider "good" car insurance?

Anyone....anyone with a home and partaker in homeowner's insurance should get an umbrella policy. It is the biggest bang for the buck the insurance industry offers.

It kicks in with additional coverage when auto or home maxes out. A $2M policy only runs between $200-$300 per year depending on the company.

He didn't have medical insurance. He was driving home after his physical/drug test for the job he was to start that week. Then he would have had health insurance. Car insurance was liability only.
Life flight alone was $30,000. The car was totaled. They had to cut him out of it. Now he cannot work for 9 months. We'll let the lawyers fight it out.
I asked because my other son went out and upped his coverage because he realized $100,000 doesn't go far. Thankfully we can support our son through out this. We have 1 million per accident for ourselves. I'll never question that amount again.

We also have 300,000/500,000 with a 1 million umbrella. I do have to say we pay a LOT for our umbrella. It goes up each time one of our kids gets their license. We now have 3 teen drivers (16, 18, 20). We have been lucky with just a couple fender benders.

You may want a shop around if you are paying more than about $300 a year.

Talk to the hospital social worker or finance office and tell them the situation and ask for any suggestions they have that might help your son. There job is about helping the patient get those bills paid and know all the avenues to doing that.
