What do you consider a McMansion?

Why? It's basically demanding that people build something they don't want and maybe can't even afford..

because people don't like to build their large expensive houses next to tiny houses. It brings the value of everybody's houses down. And taxing authorities like to be guaranteed a minimum tax base when approving sections of land for housing development.

I love condo living so the size of the lot means nothing to me. I personally don't like multi-acre lots - I like the coziness of a neighborhood where you can visit with your neighbors without walking for a block.

I don't think it's really the size of the house or lot that makes it a McMansion - although most McMansions are big houses on small lots.

It's that it's sort of a "FAKE" mansion. It's really just a cookie cutter tract home with pretensions of grandeur. To me a real mansion is something really unique that I might even be willing to pay to go on a tour of - not something that is produced by the 100s that can be bought by just about anyone willing to go into a lot of debt.
