Haven't been to disney in 12 years, going this May. Just curious as to what essentials i should take with me and what i can leave behind. I know sunglasses are a must and sunscreen etc. Trying to decide if i want to carry a bag or wear a waist pack...or nothing and just use my pockets for the most freedom :) No kids involved just 2 adults.

I try to carry as few things as possible with me all day but i make sure I have money (of course) my camera, spare batteries, sun glasses, hat, sun lotion & a bottle of water to start with.

Usually when we go, I have the kids with me so I carry a backpack with all our necessities. In the middle of January, my oldest who is 6 went out of town by ourselves. We didn't go to Disney, just Sea World.. but the same idea. I put my wallet in my back pocket (it's small with just cards and money and tickets) and my camera in my pocket of my jacket (it was COLDDDDD out).

So I guess that's my answer, if I have all my kids, especially my youngest, I bring a backpack. If with my sister and no kids or my oldest, I like to put everything in my pockets. I don't get stuck holding anything and we get to go through the security line with no wait.

I'm curious about this too. We have kids who will be 6 and 10 when we go so I am trying to downsize what we take and move from a backpack to a fanny pack. Sorry kids, no stroller...

Don't forget to take the ponchos!

I always have my backpack since it is also my camera bag. Besides what others have mentioned, I also carry small Crystal Lights to put in the water since I am not a big fan of the water.

Hopefully won't need ponchos :) Last time i went in May only had 1 day with an afternoon shower...the rest of the week was warm to hot and sunny!

The four of us went last May and our DD both 11 took the sling backpacks the first couple days. It became frustrating trying to find which side to put it on certain rides though. I carried my backpack purse also became a neusiance. I am an overpacker so we of course had our passes, money, camera, water, ID's cell phones, autograph books, pens etc. For the water rides it was nice to have a bag other than that we should try to pack lighter. My DH only carried his wallet. The children apparently think there is a stigma with fanny packs, they refused to carry them....

well i started out with a back pack i bought from home........ it wasnt to comfortable so hubby bought me a bag from AKL it went accross one shoulder i was very roomy and had many pockets i carried dh sunglasses and dd sunglasses and rain ponchos chapstick camera extra batteries and cards tissues wipes glow sticks for the dark rides for dd 9 lotion asprin extra sunglasses for me dd 9 sunglasses waterbottle small amount of money band aids and drivers licence dd 9 autograph book and markers maps to the parks.... i think thats all and dd 15 took turns carrying it...... and it was still light enough that it didnt hurt our back.... vicki

Here's my couple O' pennies worth. First off, for your sunglasses I would use croakies (the strap that holds your glasses around your neck) This way you can just take them off for each attaction and they won't scratch by putting them in a purse or fanny pack. Sunblock....Banana boat just came out with a sunblock stick, if you don't require putting it all over your self, just on your face, ears etc. you could just put that in your pocket. A wallet holds money and credit cards. I use to carry a purse backpack and a side sling purse. I found the bigger "carrier" the more you carry. I am tired of being a pack mule for my gang.

Have a magical day,
Anna

Always carry the ponchos with us from the dollar store, small and compact.

Chapstick, aspirin, indigestion stuff, moleskin, bodyglide, bug bite stick, chewables for my youngest, meclazine, allergy tablets, sun block and camera.

I am a pack mule at the parks. I wear a fanny pack that holds my camera, some money, a credit card, the park map and times guide and usually a few napkins. Then I have the backpack filled with 6 or 7 jackets (we tend to stay all day and go during seasons when the weather gets cool at night), snacks, water bottles, more napkins (kids are messy!), sunscreen and the like. We usually have a stroller and I can park the backpack in the stroller for part of the time.

I carry the absolute minimum. It is more freeing that way and I enjoy the challenge of having almost nothing with me, lol. Sunscreen is applied before leaving the hotel. If you head back by afternoon, you don't need to lug it with you around the park. I don't bring a wallet, only a small folder that contains room cards and some cash. A few tissues, a tiny container of advil, some lip creme and a camera. I put sunglasses around my neck. Now I am good to go! :)

My plan is to bring as little as possible.....will be wearing cargo shorts so will have x-tra pockets to put stuff in...want to avoid any type of backpack or waist pack :)

Being the Lovely DH that I am :lmao: I bought DW a Camelback Hydration backpack made just for females :stir: .

We took it to our trip in Oct and she found if she didn't fill it all the way it was very nice to carry and held our necessities.Sun screen ,ponchos, snacks, and of corse her Water.

She also has a small Disney fannypack for her Cigs and wallet.

I carry my cell ,some gum and a wallet (small 2 sections id and little cash) with zipploc id holder on a small lanyard with park passes and room key.all clipped to my pockets.

When we had the stroller, I always had a backpack with an enormous amount of stuff in it. Now, I carry absolutely nothing. Not even ponchos. Our small digital camera fits in my right pocket, the cell phone goes in my left. My wallet is in my back pocket. That's all I have on me when I'm in the parks.

..just got back from WDW.

If I see one more backpack I'll scream. :furious: It seems that 1 out of every 3 guests had a backpack filled with enough stuff to fill a one car garage. I must have been wacked by overstuffed backpacks at least 50 times!. One guy went thru security in front of me; in his backpack were no less than fifteen 20oz water bottles and 12 oranges. For a family of 3 !!!.

I can understand if you have a couple of small children with you and need to carry some stuff, but I must have seen at least 10 couples (with no children) pulling around "carry-on" bags (the type with wheels)!!!!

By the way... I carry a small belt pack for my camera and sunglasses.

I carry a messenger bag w/ the following: (And, yes, I'm an overpacker... :sad2: )

Passporter w/ small notebook & pen - our receipts, ADR lists, etc. go in the pockets of the passporter
Gallon-size Ziplock bag w/ change of clothes for DD & DS (shorts, shirt, underwear, & socks)
4 ponchos
Pack of Travel Wipes
Small bottles of bug spray, first aid spray, anti-itch spray, & antibacterial gel
Sunscreen stick
Neosporin
Bandaids
Chapstick
Compact & lipstick
Small sewing kit
3-4 Shout wipes
Children's liquid Tylenol & Benodryl
Sandwich-size Ziplock bag of meds for DH & me
3-4 extra Ziplock bags
Some snacks
My water bottle
My ID
DD's, DS's, & my "key to the world" cards
Cellphone
Film for camera
Kids' sunglasses

My name is Wendy, and I'm a habitual overpacker.

hmmm good topic :)
i have a follow-on question - if you do take a bag, where do you put it when you go on the rides?? do they have lockers you can put your stuff in? and if so are they secure?
