I’ve always called it a (shopping) cart.

Cart but I remember when I came back from living in Ireland for about 7 months, I went to Target with my friends and I told them I was going to get the trolley. They looked at me as if I had 3 heads.

Well the area you put it in in the parking lot when you are done with it says "Cart Return", so I would say it is a cart.

A guy named Sylvan Goldman who owned the Piggly Wiggly with the help of another guy made the first cart. At first people weren’t using them. So he hired pretty women to walk around with them and show other women how shopping carts were better
