What do you buy online that many buy in store?

People (especially older generations) always ask me how I get some things so cheap or are amazed that certain things, I purchase them online.

I typically buy my dog food through Amazon (like today when Ebates had 3% back for pet supplies) or if I have a coupon to try a new store I'll use that. It ends up being about $25-$30 cheaper than buying it at Petco or Petsmart plus I don't have to leave my house!

Contacts I just used Vision Direct and got 2 90 day supply boxes (1 for each eye) for a net cost of $96 including tax and shipping (even Sams Club would have been about $120) after Ebates.

I buy my skincare on eBay through an authorized beauty seller (I buy expensive makeup that I used to buy at the spa I worked at - I got a REALLY good deal on it when I worked there. I like the stuff and it's really good quality) and for the quality, it's a great price.

People are surprised when I say I buy clothes online from places like Kohls or Target but it typically ends up being cheaper as I can combine gift cards with the charge card/Red Card plus coupons AND Ebates which you can't do in store. If it doesn't fit then I can go into the store to exchange it (but if I don't have to it saves me a trip!)- but I'm pretty good about sizing and which styles will fit me or my family well.

We did a complete home remodel recently and wound up purchasing 1,100 square feet of flooring, microwave and lighting all online. SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than I could have in store. Saved about $500 that way.

These are just some of the things I purchase online to save our family money. What are things YOU buy online that maybe other people don't that saves you and your family money? I'm interested to hear so I can look to buy other things online at a bigger discount then buying in store.

DH's contacts.
Baby gear (Amazon, Target and Walmart, depending on who has the best price. I get free shipping with all 3 via Prime, Red card and Credit card, so yay)
Kind bars, Poptarts, Coffee for the Keurig (via Amazon Subscribe & Save. Best prices, I pay $12-14 for a 12 pk of the Kind bars, as opposed to $5 for 4pk at store; Poptarts are $10ish for 32, as opposed to $6 for 16; coffee is $5 for box, as opposed to $6 for same brand...the kind without the plastic pod, has a mesh pod instead, so less enviromental impact.)

I do get the cat/dog food, cat litter, etc from Target online. Mainly because I get a gift card just as if I went in the store, and then the delivery guy has to schelp them to my door. We go through 4 cat litter boxes (scoopable), 3 bags of dog food (grain free, due to one dog having allergies), one bag of cat food (natural, due to one cat having allergies), and 60 cans cat food (2 cans a day for the other 3 cats to share) a month, (4 cats, plus my dog plus my daughter's 3 dogs that we are fostering while DD/SoIL/GS go to Japan for the next 3 years) so when Target has the spend $, get $ in gift cards, I'll order enough for 2 months.

Cat food and kitty litter. Both are heavy and bulky to buy at the store and lug home. I order them online and the UPS man brings them to my front door. It's so much easier for me. And besides that, the cat food I buy is one that my local stores don't carry, so I'd have to drive 30 miles or more to get it. Who wants to do that when I can just have the UPS man do the work?

Eyeglasses. I get my eyes checked and take the prescription and use it to buy glasses online. I need prisms in my glasses - one pair can cost up to $300. Online I can get them for $60. People think I am crazy but they work and are good glasses. I have also ordered prescription sunglasses from them too.

In the past I have had problems getting my glasses and prescription done properly in person. The last time I bought them "in person" they forgot the prisms and I had to go back THREE times. The doctor at first didn't believe me when I told him they forgot the prisms and I needed them (it is pretty rare). I figured after that on-line couldn't possibly be worse....

Hi. Can you please let me know where you get your glasses? I have my glasses but the doctor also gave me a script so I can get sunglasses since they were too expensive for me to purchase at theor place (over $300).

OP, love this thread. Thanks!

I wasn't sure if we are allowed to post websites. So if this isn't allowed please let me know or take it down. But the site I use is Zenni. I just got two new pair about a month ago. Just make sure you enter the prescription in correctly and it should go well. Good luck!

We buy pretty much everything online except for groceries. Clothes for DH and I about 70% is bought online. If it doesn't fit you can always return it in store and some stores have free returns too (Nordstrom :worship:).

Dog food since we really couldn't find the dog food locally when we moved. But it is about the same price it was in stores because the 10th bag was free.

We have found everything to be about the same price if not cheaper online. We even bought tires online. Sears had the tires $50 cheaper online than in the store and I got cash back from online portal. Even the employees couldn't believe it or understood why.

Tires - that's a good one to remember! And then even cheaper if you use a discounted gift card!

Basically everything. TV, furniture, cat food, litter, school supplies, laptop...etc. Free shipping esp for bulk items. Plus I get rebates or points or whatever bonus.

I do my grocery order for Shoprite online and then pick it up in the store in four hours. There are tons of coupon codes for online only orders such as $35 off of $250 purchase. Then I can use the store coupons and manufacturers coupons on top of it.

I am GF and can sometimes find sales on these grocery items direct from manufactures if they have sales. They also always have a better selection than stores. Enjoy life came out with mini-cookies. They did Bogo for the first few days so last night I ordered two bulk boxes with the code and got free shipping, so $26 for & 72 bags of mini cookies. Considering a box of regular cookies at a local store can be $4-5 that was a steal.

I do better with Target clothing clearance online sometimes when I can stack a code, much easier than digging through the rack too. Part of the reason I don't shop online more is UPS won't leave at my door as I am in an urban area, and I can only carry so much home from work. So while TP on delivery would be wonderful, can't do it :(

My husband orders tons of random stuff from Amazon when he finds deals, like wireless headphones and a waterproof speaker. Overall though when we price shop we find its not always cheaper. I love Nordstrom rack though, so much better than fighting crowds at the store. I bought my husband a bunch of random clothing items he needed last year for Xmas and when I needed sneakers I found 3 pairs for under $40 (all were originally over $80). The TJ Maxx by me is always picked over by the time things hit second mark-down, so this is also cheaper than those type of stores for me.

My online shopping queen 25 year old DD was shocked to discovery on Amazon Prime day, that the TV she wanted was $20 cheaper at Sears, than any of the online retailers on Amazon. And she was watching movies on it that night.
This after a disaster (for her and her brother) with their father's day gift, a console for my 65 Mustang. Cost her $40 shipping to return the wrong console because the online sites didn't mention there on 2 models, one that fits on the transmission tunnel, and another that fits over what Ford in 1965 called a console, which was really nothing more than a long pierce of chrome with an ashtray at the rear.

So you just decided to do exactly opposite of what this thread asked...for fun?

Wait I buy like 90% of my clothes online. Maurice's will do bogo 50% off with free shipping at least once a year. I buy enough to last between sales. I also order almost all my shirts through old navy online. Their tall clothes fit me so much better. I am fat AND tall (lucky me!) and it is so nice to have sleeves to my wrists and hems past my belly button.

Thanks so much! I took a screen shot in case it comes down and will look tomorrow while at work. I really appreciate it.

Where do you buy them? I need prisms too, and we have a sketchy vision plan.

EDIT: Never mind! I didn't read far enough down the thread. Thanks!
