What do you buy for the resort fridge?

I am trying to make an organized shopping list and I came up with the usuals - yogurt, milk, cheese, lunch meat. What other food items do you all get to help save money (and take a break from junk food) and have snacks in the room when you are at WDW?
Thank you!

Strawberries are yummy in Florida! Do you have a Trader Joe's in your area? Perhaps a quick trip there to pick up some healthy fruit leather, dried fruit, trail mix, cookies, etc. Are you shopping in Orlando or at home? I know that the Super Walmart here where I live has packaged apple slices with caramel, and baby carrots(with the Disney characters on the label). Perhaps a box or two of those would be great.

Sounds silly....but the snacks I always found exciting to plan and purchase!!!!
Have fun!:cool1:

We kept a few yogurts, some fruit, beer and wine in ours. I find the beer and wine in the parks to be the most expensive "waste" of my money.

We are flying from CA and I am trying to keep the luggage light.
We do have a rental car - for one day - and we are going to go out and shop. We were considering Costco and Super Wal-Mart. We will be at the Dolphin (no dining plan) for almost 2 weeks and we need to stock up - lol.

Do the Costcos in Florida sell alcohol?

I have posted this question in other areas without getting much help so I thought I would try here. Looking for some strategies.

I just keep drinks and fruit in ours as the temperature on those small fridges are too risky (to me) to keep perishables in. You just can't be certain that it will keep meat and dairy at the proper temps.

Good point. We are also planning on getting a large styrofoam cooler (to transport our goods and keep extra ice) so I think I will probably put my lunch meat and other perishables in there if I am concerned about fridge temps.

This is a good point. You might want to get a cheap fridge thermometer if there is concern. I'm sure they sell them cheap at walmart.

We generally keep tons of fruit (apples, oranges, whatever is in season and looks good at the time), veggies (celery, carrots, cucumbers), natural peanut butter, jelly, and almond milk. Out of the fridge, we get bananas, oatmeal, granola bars, bread, cinnamon (:goodvibes), applesauce packs, bottled water, and almonds.

I will absolutely postively tell you that those fridges are not safe for perishables. We brought back pizza from Wolfgang Pucks and put the leftovers in the fridge. We had all eaten it for dinner, DS woke up that night, munched on some pizza and was throwing up the whole next morning. None of us were ill. I am positive that the meat pizza was not kept at the proper temp. I am so crazy about food safety at home that I could kick myself for not realizing the fridge temps weren't safe. Now we only keep non-perishables in there. Good luck!

I would go with the fridge thermo. for your peace of mind-thanks for the tip! We will buy one for our trip in December! We didn't have any problems keeping the fridge we got through a swap last June-everything was kept nice and cold!!!!
My son loves applesauce cold so we will take some little cups of this as well!
Grapes are another good snack! We buy milk and take the cereal you can buy in the disposable cups for breakfast each morning!

We used garden grocer on our last trip, and have also heard good things about wegoshop- they will add alcohol to your order! We did not have a car, so it was a good option, but even if we did, I would still have it delivered to save the time. The cost was minimal. $12 deliv fee?

Either way, foods we had in our fridge included bagels/cr. cheese, go gurt yogurt, apples, milk for cereal... we also had muffins/cereal, granola bars, and most importantly WATER! We did not eat half of what we brought...Drinks were essential.

good luck

I have thankfully never had an issue with my non-perishables going bad in the 11 years I've used the mini fridges at Disney. I always keep milk, butter, cream cheese, sometimes a case of water, and then leftovers and desserts from the parks. For non fridge items I get bread, bagels, cereal, apples, bananas, cheez it's, fishes, nachos and cheese sauce. I also purchase diapers and wipes. If I'm staying in a 1 bedroom villa, since i have a full kitchen I'll also purchase eggs, pasta and sauce. I like to have at least one just in case, easy, cheap, quick dinner in case something happens and we need to stay in the room for dinner (cranky kids, exhaustion, someone not feeling good, etc.). Thankfully I've never needed the pasta there but it's easy to take home if I feel like it or easy enough to leave behind as it's only $2. I only tend to get breakfast foods as I like to eat in the room before heading out as it's so, so much cheaper and I can have the kids eating while I'm getting ready.
From home I usually pack my favorite coffee, filters for the coffee pot (I bring enough to brew 2 pots a day as I bring a big thermos with me to the parks since the coffee is so gross there), and powered creamer.
My biggest advice is to try not to overshop and buy too much. I used to do that and my point of shopping to save money just went down the tubes because so much stuff wouldn't get eaten.

One thing that has helped us with the fridge temp is to make sure the doors
of the cabinet that house the fridge stay open and make sure the fridge is not shoved all the way to the back of the cabinet. proper air circulation helps the fridge maintain cooler temps. But I would agree with most previous responses I would definitely keep an eye on the fridge temp if you're keeping perishables in it.
