I need some quick ideas for a birthday present for a two year old girl... Preferably something under $10.

I was thinking books, but that's boring, right? Clothes are more of a present for mom. So, what the heck do two year old girls play with? :confused3

DD2.5 is interested in all of the following: baby dolls, baby stroller, tea sets, magna doodle, colorwonder sets, bubbles, sprinkler, her own Tinkerbell pillow and throw set, bath toys and whatever DS has currently.

It's $16 at Target, but my favorite gift for my DD when she was 2 and when her friends turned two, was this tea set made by Fisher Price.

It comes with a chunky teapot (that sings and does soem other stuff), two cups, and three little "desserts" and plates.

DD is almost 4 and still plays with it. Her friends also could not put it down when they received it on their birthdays (reports from their moms the next day).

How about some outside stuff. Sidewalk chalk, bubbles etc?

I second this. I have a 2 y/o DGD and she loves to draw and play with bubbles. Color Wonder is great too because they can't make a mess with that.

They sell some really cute Play-Doh sets at Target for around your price range that are suggested for ages 2+ (some are 3+) . They have things that cut out shapes, make stamping patterns, and include a couple of Doh colors. Also, additional containers of Doh are around a dollar.

Bubbles, bubble sets or a bubble blower (I bought one last week at toys r us for 9.99. runs by batteries and blows lots of bubbles. Chalk is great, play food, puzzles (big wooden puzzles), character plate cup bowl or spoon and fork, DVDs, books, hair bows, barrettes, pillow pet pee wees (12.99 at CVS and Toys r us), chunky cars, trains (like Thomas), baby doll and stroller

DD at 2 loved crayons and play doh
DS at almost 4 still breaks crayons and squishes play doh.

Outdoor stuff is a great idea!

Our youngest also has the teapot mentioned above. She has played with that thing for hours, serving "tea" to us and her older sister. Other big hits have been chunky puzzles. We have wooden ones (Melissa & Doug) and cheap foam ones from the dollar sections. They are always a big hit at our house.

Pop on Pals are another thing she loves to play with. Barbies were out due to all of the tiny pieces, but these give her a sense of playing dolls without the choking hazard.

I got one of those when I was a little girl and I will be 38 in 3 weeks and I still have mine and it is in almost mint condition. Each of the girls have gotten them and play with them for many years.

I certainly wouldn't buy bubbles or sidewalk calk for a 2 year old. Maybe some sand toys, even, but not bubbles or chalk.

No. Books are not boring. And as a mom, I would much rather my child receive a book than more plastic crap.

I do agree with the others though, that sidewalk chalk and bubbles are lots of fun, but maybe not the best gift for a just turned 2 year old.

Actually they make a bubble set specifically designed for toddlers. They're kinda like an oversized Weeble. DD has a Winnie the pooh version you open it up pour bubbles in and after screwing it back together she can only put the wand in one small slit of his head. Not 100% spillproof but close. Also the way that you form your lips to blow bubbles help children develop their speech.

But they also make bubble machines with characters that just blow out the bubbles for you. And really who doesn't like to run around catching bubbles.

My daughter will be 2 next month. She too loves that same tea set. She really likes books, I should say LOVES books. She likes anything to do with animals, be it a stuffed toy or a hard plastic one. She likes all things Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Crayons and coloring books are a big hit with her as well.

When my girls were 2 they loved their Fisher Price tea set, play food and the shopping cart. Chalk is great with the summer coming.

Why not?

I think the tea set is an adorable idea.

Agree. And the outdoor stuff sounds like more work for the parents!

My son loves books and still loves clothes as presents. At 2 he had...a garage, some balls (some plastic, some wooden from haba toys), just some very very basic things. He entertained himself with very simple things. I think he got duplos at 2 or just beyond and those were great fun.

All could easily be for girls as well.

We allow my grandson to play with sidewalk chalk and he is 1. Sure it is scribbling but it comes off with water. No big deal. I'm thinking of getting him a small plastic pool to play in as he loves water. Good way to break the heat wave.
He is going to a 2 yo birthday party tmw and his gift is a book. The mother prefers that to plastic junk

You can never go wrong with books. At that age, the board ones. Sandra Boynton makes some great ones. Our favorites are Birthday Monsters and barnyard Dance.

DD is 21 months. Her favorite thing in the world are Little People sets. She has nearly everything they make (thanks Gramma, lol) and she's still excited when she sees new ones at the store. They keep her occupied for up to 30 minutes at a time. They are awesome :D

Play food is another huge hit, as are board books and bubbles as others have suggested :D
