What do they base changing the MK park hours on?

We are going to WDW Dec. 1-10 and I looked yesterday at the official park hours and the MK hours have been extended on Dec. 9 to 11pm instead of 10pm. What do the base the change of hours on. The resorts have been full for weeks now. Should we avoid the park on Sat. with the change of hours or go at opening have lunch with our ADR's at CRT at 12:05 hop to another park and hop back to MK around 6pm till 11? Help please.

It has to due with attendance expectations. It's a saturday as well and there may be double Spectros which will draw people even more. I'd keep your ADR and either get in there early for rides before lunch then hop or get there for your ADR then stay awhile. If you've already seen Spectomagic then it might be worthwhile to head to say Epcot that evening although we love Magic Kingdom after the sun has gone down . We will be there at the same time as you but other than that I can't advise because our trip will almost be over and we are going to Universal that day .

I would do the ADR and leave. I wouldn't go back to see Spectro unless you plan on getting a spot hours ahead of time. We tried it once in Nov. on a Sat and we couldn't even see it AND we couldn't get out of the park to easily either. Wall to Wall people and no one would even budge to let you walk past. It was not one of our better Disney moments We have now made it our rule: no MK on a Sat. nite.
It is a good time to go on rides though because everyone is watching the parade so there are hardly any waits. We tried this in May and it was great!(on a week night)

Sometimes they extend one park's hours if they reduce another's, such as due to a private party.
