What do people wear to the MDR?

First cruise on the Dream this weekend (3 night). Disney says the dress for the dining rooms is "cruise casual". Does that mean shorts and t shirts, or khakis and a dress shirt? Jeans? I do not want to overpack, but since this is our first cruise, I don't want to be under dressed either. There is no formal night on our cruise since it is too short. We are not doing Palo or Remy, just the regular restaurants. Thanks!!

Clothes! I'm lame and make the same jokes over and over. Jeans and tshirts are fine. Khakis and black pants are always a safe bet to dress up or dress down.

For our 1st couple of cruises, we dressed up for dinner, but after seeing that most people just remained in shorts and t-shirts, we have now joined the shorts-wearing crowd. My hubby and son are eternally grateful! The only exceptions are the formal and semi-formal nights, but they do not apply to you. Have a great cruise!

Our first cruise was when the dress code was semi formal for all the main dining rooms, we had our dresses and DH had his kakis and dress shirts, and the dress shoes what a pain to hull on board! So we got all dressed up feeling great went to the enchanted garden it's gorgeous we just felt like a million dollars and then a man walks by with his ripped jean shorts and tank top . Yup ruined the whole a ambiance. All though some items are not permitted Disney pretty much allows anything other then swimwear end no shoes. Since that cruise the dress code became cruise casual which I much prefer no need to bring all that extra clothing but I think we'll stick to sun dresses and DH kaki shorts and a dress Tshirts he can still wear sandals and no need for dress shoes.

The only "dress code" for the Main Dining Rooms is "no swimwear or tank tops for dinner". Beyond that, you'll see all manner of dress from tshirts & shorts to fancy dress on any given night.

What about strapless dresses? I have a couple of cute strapless sun dresses and the white shrug I had got ruined the laundry. Can I wear the dresses without the shrug?

As long as they aren't swim dresses, no problem.

I'm sure the "OMG IT IS SO COLD" people will be along shortly to say replace the fake sweater or get a wrap.

I wear sundresses most of the time. I find them more comfortable. My husband generally wears dress shorts and izod type shirts. If I dress up more then he will switch to khakis. I always take a sweater.

I wore spaghetti strap tank top when the cruises were still semi-formal. It was a fancier top with frills etc. I'm not sure if that's what's meant by no tank tops I think they're more leaned towards the men.

And after a google search voila Disney promotes it at Palo their fanciest restaurant so yup go for it

I don't want to have to wear super formal clothing to dinner, eg dresses or gowns, men **** and ties, or tuxedos, but people are getting too sloppy. It's vacation, plus my husband wears a suit for work.

I think MDR, men should wear collared shirt and khakis (okay first night cargo or dressy shorts. But jeans, sloppy shorts, tee shirts or worst tank tops please. For women, it's much easier to look nice, any type of sundress or maxi, blouse and skirt, dress pants or really nice Capri or dressy shirt with nice blouse.

Formal night, should be dressier. And semi formal somewhere in between. JMHOP

Well, one asked if it was ok and then proceeded to proclaim they didn't care and would do it anyway when they were told that no, pajamas were NOT appropriate dinner attire and there was a good chance they would be turned away (with the possible exception of debarkation morning if they were stupid and packed all their clothes) and then she got all huffy about it.

We dress like we would for a nice dinner out. Not super formal but not daytime summer clothes.

Ladies and girls in my family wear sundresses or nice capris. Guys wear khakis and collard shirts.

That was always my impression, also. Really don't want to see hairy armpits while dining.

Of course, that could also apply to "dressier" tanks in some cases.

I tend to wear a lot of casual skirts, so I just planned my shorts for days when the evening was formal or semi-formal, when I'd be changing anyway. I think I might have felt a little weird in shorts as a woman. But that's just me, and I'm not sure what "dressy shorts" are for a woman. DH and my dad certainly have nicer shorts than anything I own. My kiddos wore shorts, although I did strategically plan out their daily attire so they were always wearing something nicer on top (polo for DS, non-t-shirt for DD). DS called me out on it halfway through the week, but whatevs, kid, that's what you get for telling me to pick your clothes out for the trip myself! ha!

You know, the cold dining room thing everyone talks about had me worried, so I carried a sweater every night. I'm always cold at home. And I never used it, not once. Go figure. Formal night in Triton's on the Wonder was so hot, felt really bad for the guys in their tuxes. So I would personally avoid jeans b/c now I'd be worried they're too hot.
