What do I want for my birthday?

I guess you get to a certain age and you start having trouble thinking of something you want or need for your birthday. My DH is badgering me. I told him I want to go to dinner and a manicure/pedicure. He wants to 'wrap' something up to give me. Very sweet...but I can't think of anything. Any ideas? I will be 38 tomorrow.

Just as an aside, I just googled the above question. Many item came up, many different years on different forums, but I was struck by how many were the end of May/beginning of June birthdays!! I guess us Geminis can't make decisions!!

Dinner is what we usually do for myself and for DH's as well. It gets harder each year to figure out what to get each other. Especially for DH who is 2 weeks after Christmas.

Right now, though, we've pretty much decided to let my b-day fall to the background. Our DS7's b-day is June 22 and mine is June 24 (39). So right now, DS's is in the forefront (sp?). Although, I wouldn't mind a nice trip to a spalon for my birthday :rolleyes1

I always have trouble thinking of something that I want as a present too. I already have so much stuff that I don’t need or want anything else. :lmao: However, when my “I don’t want anything” bothers people, I say “gift cards.” Gift cards are great because if you think of something you want later, you don’t have to spend your own money. Or (what I usually end up doing) you can spend them on someone else’s birthday/Christmas etc presents.

Some other ideas:
Book by favorite author
CD of favorite artist
Make-up Nail polish- to go with your other gift
DVD
Photo album
Jewelry

Btw, Happy Birthday

tell him to go buy a gift card at your spa, that way you get your pedi/mani and he gets to wrap something

DH and I have the SAME birthday. The first couple of years we would just swap gifts. Now we get something for the house like new furniture or other 'big ticket item' or take a long weekend trip.

I can never think of what I want for Christmas much less birthdays.

:lmao: That would be me! Mine is May 31. I really never want anything for my birthday but cake!!! One year I went without a cake & I was so depressed. That was the year that I knew, it didn't matter if I didn't get a gift but I *must* at least have a cake on my birthday.

Interesting observation since one of my children is May 22 & he is the hardest child to buy for!! He never ever gives me any ideas what he wants for his birthday, etc... You would think with him being my own kid, I could come up with something but it's really hard because he never tells me, just does an "I haven't thought of anything/I don't know" when asking him for something. The other 3 I could tell you easily what they want.

Are you a practical person? I know I am, I would just end of up asking for an appliance or something. It took me years to convince DH that the commercials were wrong and that he would NOT end up in the doghouse if he bought me an appliance/household item I wanted. I have asked for a griddle, new vaccuum cleaner, etc...
If he wants something to wrap up, could it be a gift card to say Target or somewhere? Is there any movie or music? A GPS? Disney trip? ;)

Happy Birthday.

I can never decide what I want for my birthday. Mine is tomorrow too and I went today and bought new curtains for the living room. I guess that is my gift to myself.

I may get the ultimate gift tomorrow. My DD has been having labor pains on and off all day. She hopes the baby will be born tomorrow.

Happy mutual birthday MinnieTink!!:bday:

I always hint around for gift cards to Barnes & Noble and Starbucks. I don't always get those but I love it when I do!

come on people, she wants an all expense trip to WDW, staying at the Poly club level, with several lunches and dinners with the princesses.

oh, and some sparklies..

(here's two tickets to that thing you wanted to go too.... look again they are diamonds!)pirate:

I just ask of peace and quiet of DM and DD11. My exdh even calls me on my birthday to wish me a happy birthday-don't be fooled, it wasn't always like that ha ha.

He will take DD out to get something for me for my birthday and Xmas. Last Xmas, she had him buy a Robert Pattison calendar wowsers, ok I am 42 and have a mad crush on him. I opened up the gift and I was like " all right!!!!!! Exdh is sitting there just shaking his head in disbelief. He told DD he didn't think I would want that.

Happy birthday to the posters on this thread, sorry it may be belated.

My birthday is next month, and I honestly can't think of one single thing I would be interested in getting as a gift.

Maybe a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake. :goodvibes

I do remember putting in a request for a Coach bag from my mom (she is my Coach bag "dealer" :cloud9:)

If anything, the perfect "present" would be a bonfire with our neighbors and friends, followed by said ice cream cake and a good bottle of wine. Maybe some Thai food.

Hopefully DH reads this... ;)

I've begun asking DH to run some of my errands as my birthday gift. :lmao: You know, those chores that always get put off? Last year, I had him take my car in for an oil change. This year, I've asked him to get some landscaping done on a flower bed in the front yard--i.e. call the landscaper, get an estimate, and schedule a time to have it done.

I don't really need any more stuff--but this is like giving me the gift of time which I always need! :thumbsup2

I'm only 23 and I have already been running into this problem this past year. Before that I was a college student and had no money so I had stuff I needed/wanted but now I have a full time job that I am pretty sure makes me the highest single earner in my family (parents, 3 sisters and spouses, and husband) so when going from having no money to having quite a bit I realized that at birthdays I didn't have anything I wanted because when I did want something I just bought it!

My husband gives me coupons for things alot though... Like he will give me ones to get out of a chore I don't like or for a massage or something cute like that.

:bday:party::cake:Hi Minnmie Tink - Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday.

With all you have gone through lately, I think the dinner and mani/pedi is good. Just have your dh wrap up a gift card etc.

I just pick out what I want and tell my dh thanks. Its usually some clothes. But this year as you know I got the trip to Disney, sure beats last years "gift" - recovering from radiation:)

Hope you have a great day and hope your kids make it special for you too.

Tell him a new ipod so you can use it when you go to your mani/pedi :)
Happy B-day!!!

I can think of tons of things I'd like for my birthday!

Here's a partial list (and my birthday is June 10th, in case anyone wants to oblige ;)):

A large plant/tree for the deck
A glue pad (they're too "expensive" for me to consider buying for myself)
Martha Stewart's glitter collection (see explanation above)
Lots of different pieces of jewelry
Books, books, books
Gift cards (Parent Teacher Store, BBW, TJMaxx, Homegoods, iTunes, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot...)
Ceramic flat iron
A juicer
Paints, brushes, and canvas
new flip-flops
new set of acrylic patio dishes (Target has especially cute ones)
new, pretty beach towel
magazine subscriptions (The Week, Marie Claire, scrapbooking mag...)
new fingernail/toenail polish
perfume

I'm a June birthday, and sort of the same problem here, except that my DH isn't much of a gift buyer. We've always been on such a tight budget that we've never been able to spend much money of gifts.

I have been lucky, though, to have a couple of summer vacations planned around my birthday, and have considered those the gift. We did Disney last year :lovestruc

I can never think of anything that I really need or want anyway. And my DH has really bad taste in clothing, so I would never hope for that from him! :rotfl:

Michael Buble tickets!!

Oh wait....never mind. That's what I want. :rolleyes1

Happy Birthday!!
