I googled his name and got his website, but I don't want to spend $50 right off on those two books and cds. Can I get away with just getting Total Money Makeover? Is this the way to go? I want us to get rid of debt and am willing to try whatever. We're not too bad, but we have a few thousand on credit cards and our savings is not very good. If anyone has a different book/program, let me know! TIA!!!

Just the book Total Money Makeover is just fine! You can get a used copy on e-bay or better yet, see if you can check it out from your library. It's a fast and easy read so you should have plenty of time to read it and get started before it's due back.

To begin you will need to list all of your debts, lowest to highest and their minimum payments. You'll also need all your monthly, quarterly, and annual bills to form a budget, you can gather all that together while locating and getting a copy of the book.

The Total Money Makeover is hard to get.

You can also see if financial peace revisted is available at the library. Plus either might be on audio cd/tapes.

Otherwise, he just had the books for $10 at his site. you do not need anything else.

ANOTHER FREE TIP:

Listen to the archives. They're free. You can fast forward through the commercials that way too. I do it while I'm playing on the DISBoards!

I also borrowed TMM from the library. I did have to put in a request for a hold since it is pretty popular. I may eventually buy it, but I don't think you really need it. I listen to his show online sometimes, although after a while you know pretty much how he's going to answer each type of issue. Search "baby steps" on his website and that will give you the basics. We started last October and I am so thankful that we did. My dh was laid off in April (I'm a SAHM) and we have no other debt than the house. If we hadn't have paid off so much before, we would really be in trouble now! Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I'll try our library first but if it's too popular, $10 isn't too bad for me. :) Thanks for the info on baby steps too. We're not doing badly, but I know we could be doing WAY better than we are. I'm excited to do this. Thanks!
