What do I need to know about VWL

Our waitlist just came through today for VWL! As we were planning on SSR, until DH read one of my posts and secretly put us on the waitlist for VWL or BCV.

I have a couple of questions, since I just am familiar with SSR.

Where's a good location to ask for a 2br?

Do they have a place like Artist Pal. to get water and stuff?

How about a place to change into swim suits if the room isn't ready when we get there and the kids want to go swimming?

What's the pool like? Does it have a zero entry place?

Does the VWL have their own lobby? I don't want to get dropped off by DME at the wrong place.

If anyone can think of other pearls of wisdom, I would appreciate them!

I am pretty excited about this! :yay: Now I have to change our ADR for the first night as I think a hike over to DTD to WGP is out of the question.

Welcome home! I am sure that you will love VWL as much as we do. We always stay in a 1BR, so I can't really give you advice about 2BR locations, but I'm sure someone here will. You can get water, juice, coffee, snacks etc. at Roaring Forks in the main part of the hotel (near the pool), and they also have some of these things in the hotel gift shop. The pool at WL does not have zero entry, but it is very nicely themed - it begins as a spring in the hotel lobby, goes over a waterfall and into the pool. The villas do have their own lobby, but ME will drop you off at the main lodge lobby as all check-ins are done there. (You won't want to miss the main lobby anyway - it's spectacular!) Hope that helps, and have a magical trip!

Don't forget to go over to guest services as soon as you are checked in and see if you can sign up to be flag family one morning of your stay. It is an amazing and unforgettable experience.

I'm sure you'll have a great stay...congratulations on your waitlist coming through!

Personally, I'd nominate your DH as Husband of the Year! ;)

Most of the views at VWL are of the woods, so it's not as critical to worry about the views. Personally, I'd focus on whether you want smoking/non-smoking and dedicated vs lock-off 2br.
Do they have a place like Artist Pal. to get water and stuff?
Roaring Fork is a great place for that type of thing...very good counter service near the main pool at WL.

You can change at Sturdy Branches, the fitness center at VWL. They have lockers to store your items as well.

What's the pool like? Does it have a zero entry place?
No zero entry at either the main pool or the quiet pool near VWL. The main pool has a small, curvy slide that the kids enjoy. The quiet pool is a small pool with no slides.

Does the VWL have their own lobby? I don't want to get dropped off by DME at the wrong place.
Yes it has its own lobby but check in is at the main WL lobby. So DME will take you to the only drop off place for WL and VWL guests.

You won't need to "hike" anywhere, unless you want to walk down to FW. The bus will take you directly to DTD, and I wouldn't change my ADR if that's someplace you like to eat.

As for pearls of wisdom, that really depends on who will be in your travelling party. There are lots of recreation options and fun things for kids.

Enjoy your trip planning! :)

Thanks Granny. DH was not exactly thrilled that the waitlist came through, as he really really likes SSR(which was why we bought). Seemed a little relieved that the fitness center is in the villas.

I was going to change the ADR as I would like to try AP or maybe Cali Grill or Concourse steakhouse since we are in the area I plan on taking full advantage of it. I can always catch WGP on another trip(advantage of DVC).

Starr....I think you and your DH will really enjoy VWL. That's what's nice about DVC...the ability to sample the various resorts. He very well might not care for VWL, but then again he might like it a whole bunch!

In any event, here's hoping that your trip is a great one! :)

My two favorite resorts...SSR and VWL.

I had probably one of the WORST 2BR a few weeks ago and I hated it so much I bought another 50 points there :rotfl2:

The hike to the end of the hall to VWL is nothing...the view even overlooking the trash is gorgeous. I had both!!!

The walk to the boat is great and relaxing. I love having Roaring Forks right there.

Basically VWL is a slice of heaven that sits harmoniously side by side to SSR in paradise!

Tell your DH I was drug kicking and screaming to VWL and now love it like SSR.

Slakk & Granny

Thanks for the encouragement! I think I mentioned one of Granny's posts about FW people sneaking over and using the pools at WL. Not to offend any FW fans, but DH couldn't wait to get on the boat after HDD review. He has visions of them hiding their golf carts in the trees and packing into the pools. Thus a little apprehensive of VWL, but has realized it's a great location for this trip. He'll be counting the days after having to do the first real "snow shovelling" of the year today!

Will try to get ADR's for AP, I'll catch WGP at Thanksgiving.

May be if you are there at a really busy time of year FW pool hoppers might be an issue but we were there the 1st week in Dec and usually the VWL had an average of 8 swimmers and 6 hot tubbers. It was deserted. We absolutely love VWL I hope you have a great trip.

When we were there the ducks were the majority. Weather was nice too!

I'm not worried we're going May 5-8, it's just DH miffed he isn't going to SSR(well he did put us on the waitlist).:confused3 .
