What do I need to know about owning different use years?

I own one contract with a February use year and an waiting on ROFR on another contact with a June use year. How do I manage owning in two different use years? I obviously wanted the same use year but this contract was a good fit otherwise so I went ahead made the offer and signed the contract. Please advise.

When you have two UY, the contracts will each be considered master contracts and you will have two member #'s.

You will be able to see them both on your DVC member site. However, in order to combine points for reservations, you have to transfer from one contract or the other...or, book some nights with one contract, and the other nights with the other contract.

When you call MS to make a reservation, you will have to give them both member #'s as well.

The hardest piece, I think, is keeping track of banking deadlines for the different contract.

Of course, when a deal comes along, sometimes its worth a bit of inconvience.

We find having more than one UY a big pain. Points from each UY retain their UY and home resort status even if you transfer them to yourself.

We have also had several problems with MS due to multiple UYs and everybody with multiple UYs were denied access to their vacation and point listings on MS website for over four months due to a programing problem.

If the resale market wasn't in the crappier, we would sell our second UY contracts.

We have had two contracts with two different use years for 15 years now and while it takes a little bookkeeping it isn't hard at all to manage. Maybe what makes it easy is that all the points are at the same resort? We have never had to transfer points from one contract to the other either.

I will have 1 use year at SSR and another use year for HHI assuming ROFR goes well... fingers crossed. My plan is to use SSR mainly for Disney World vacations and the HHI points only for HHI vacations. Hopefully this will go smoothly.

Good luck and hope things go well. Based on your plan for SSR and HHI, then having the two UY's will not be too much of an issue for you.
