What discontinued snack/beverage would you bring back?

Planters cheese balls

This was my first thought when I saw the title of the thread! We always bought those for road trips and vacations when I was a kid. Very nostalgic.

We used to get a bag of those and a bag of popcorn after school and mix them!

I remember Edy's used to make some sort of orange sherbet or ice cream with chocolate chips or chocolate shards in it. I think it was called Swiss Orange. Maybe it was discontinued because nobody else liked it. But I fondly remember it and I loved it, it was so yummy. The tart, creamy orange flavor tempered with the sweet chocolate bits. Since then nothing has come close to it. All the other orange sherbet out there is just bleh, bland, watery and not creamy at all. I still think of that discontinued flavor sometimes when I indulge in ice cream or sherbet.

OMG, yes - that's my top one as well! I will sometimes put mini chocolate chips on regular orange sherbet, but that was better!

Sugar Daddies. These were the best thing for pulling a tooth.

They still make sugar daddies and are pretty widely available in the middle TN region at least. My folks and many of their teammates keep them in their tennis bags in case anyone needs a sugar lift.

Glad they still make them! - That's what DS wants most when the braces finally come off.

I also want to be able to find these:

for DS. They haven't actually been discontinued, as far as I know, but the two grocery stores nearest me don't carry them lately. (One has the square PB&J crackers - but the crackers are actually a different recipe, not just different shape. And one has the round crackers - but with just peanut butter, no jelly.)

I think my grocery store has those crackers, @PollyannaMom, although I only buy them in the summer so not sure if they've had them lately. You're right, though, there are many different varieties but those are a fave!

Red Zinger herbal tea! I drank it for over 30 years and now it has disappeared from all the grocery stores. DH found some on Amazon (at ridiculous price) and bought me 6 boxes for Christmas.

McRib would be permanent item at all McDonald's

Just seeing that word nauseates me. When McDonald's first introduced them, I got a horrible case of food poisoning from one. Apparently, I'm not the only one. We saw several reports of people getting food poisoning from them back then. My parents had to take me to an emergency room on vacation. Since that experience, I just shake my head, when people say they got food poisoning at WDW or on a cruise. Food poisoning isn't just a severe upset stomach. It's so much worse. If you really have food poison, you'll know it. A trip to a doctor or hospital is absolutely necessary. DH & DS have always been banned from ordering one. I can't stand to look at them.

Sorry, for jumping on my soapbox & derailing the thread. I apologize L&Lfan, but anyone mentioning them brings back horrible memories for me. I'm glad you like them, but I wish I never had to see another one.

I once had food poisoning so badly I was hallucinating. My ex wasn't "sure" if he should have taken me to the ER, but didn't because he had to work the next day. I called a friend when I woke the next morning and she took me to the doc. I had to have an IV and antibiotics, but you know, NBD

The story then became "funny" because at the time I was hallucinating I kept telling my ex I needed "v" to make me better...this was when True Blood was on. Or, maybe that was the indication your wife isn't ok anymore.

Mine are alcohol related. I miss the TGIFriday's mudslides. It was sold in liquor stores (at least here in NY) because they had all the alcohol in it already. You just put it in the blender over ice and in no time, you had a frozen mudslide. None of the other brands taste as good as TGIFridays did.

And the other alcohol product I miss are the pouches of daiquiris (alcohol included). You just froze the whole pouches, and then you have a frozen daiquiris. For a while, Mike's Hard Lemonade came in pouches that you could freeze, but I haven't seen them in a while.

After reading the whole thread I agree with the Peanut Butter Twix - they have it in the stores now but it is not the same. Currently it has a CHOCOLATE cookie with the peanut butter top covered in milk chocolate. But the original Peanut Butter Twix had the same VANILLA cookie that was on the caramel one but with the peanut butter top covered in milk chocolate was so much better.

And Dr Pepper Ten (aka Doc Ten) is still produced here in Southern Illinois. I know they stopped making it in 20oz because of lack of demand but we still produce it in 12pk cans.

Maybe there is hope! I haven't seen one around here in a long time. Your posts inspired me to try the Nestle "product locator" online, lol - it said that there wasn't anyplace that sold them within a 15+ miles, but I'll keep hope alive! We don't have Wawas either, although I went to one once in VA...

After eating the McRib, my lips turned completely inside out. I had hives so bad that my head was full of ripples. They would have made a great roller coaster. At the hospital, they had to strap me to the bed, because I was shaking so hard. They were afraid I was going to bounce out of the bed. This was on top of the non-stop vomiting that many people associate with food poisoning. Like you, I was so dehydrated that I needed an IV on top of the other meds.

We had stopped for lunch at McDonald's, before riding a ferry across Chesapeake Bay. I had never tried a McRib. I wanted to try it, because I was feeling adventurous on vacation. (At the time, that was adventurous for me. ) It was the longest ride of my life. I will never forget the kind man who sat with me the entire time I was getting sick & vomiting. He must have thought I was just seasick, because he tried to talk to me to distract me from feeling sick. I have always been prone to motion sickness, so my parents thought I was just nauseated. They went with my sister to play games not knowing how sick I was. I told them I wanted to watch the water instead. Since I often got carsick, they had no idea I was that sick, until we got to the hotel. When I asked for a Sprite for the first time ever, they realized something wasn't right. Things went downhill quickly after that.

For those who may wonder, they did run tests & determined the McRib was the culprit.

Omg. Your experience sounds like mine, I was sweating and shaking but coherent when my girlfriend found me. My ex left me in the spare bathroom (he had to carry me into it because I was disturbing him in the master bathroom - seriously, he was a peach) with a glass of water, my phone (thank god), and a throw blanket over me. They had me admitted super fast, but I was only there 5-6 hours. Did you have to stay overnight?

ETA: Mine was from bad abalone, I wasn't put off from it, but I remember the smell of it even now.

Your ex sounds like a horrible person. I'm glad you got out of that situation.

I was in the emergency room overnight, but was never assigned a hospital room. After several hours, they got me stabilized. They let me leave, but our vacation was ruined.

You're fortunate that you can still eat abalone. It really makes me nauseated to even see a McRib.
