What did you pack that you wish you would have left at home?

I was in that mood before my trip where I am trying to make sure I don't forget anything but that I don't want to over pack. That mood by the way rhymes with itchy. Lol...

I have started a disney packing list and I am working on keeping it updated based on what we use / don't use but I know we will take something we don't use. Water socks came off the list and based on the weather this week, sweatshirts are coming off the list...it is sweatshirt weather back home.

Insect repellant. In several trips, have never needed it.

And for me, I always take about twice as many clothes as I end up using. I'm very much a "just in case" packer, and nearly always do laundry mid-trip. So i always lay out everything I want to take, then make myself pare down my clothes.

I usually bring more shoes than I actually wear.

Ditto! I typically bring too many shoes that I think will be comfortable. Never wear them and stick to my flip-flops or sneakers (hate sneakers!). Still on the look out for the most perfect, comfortable (and fashionable! :rotfl:) park shoes! We're flying SW this time and I'm looking forward to having the bags fly free. We usually all our stuff into one carry-on each. I am guaranteed to over pack now!

I pack my suitcase with all the clothes in order that I will wear them...yep, the bottom of suitcase will be the last outfit I will wear home..I took 2 sweatshirts and I didn't even need even 1, except on the plane...so, next time, I will take just one, plus, I took 2 pair of flip flops and only wore 1 pair. I took sneakers and another pair like sneakers and I wore both of them...

Oh my goodness, SO much. :rotfl:

Like other posters, I also end up packing more shoes than I'll need. All I really like to have is one pair of tennis shoes, and a pair of flip flops/sandals. I am *trying* to pack fewer shoes; perhaps this next trip is the one where I'll actually do it. :lmao:

I also find myself packing bandaids, ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc in a "just in case" type of kit. Problem is, I either never use it OR when I want something from it, I've left it in the room so it does me no good and I end up spending $$ buying it at the parks. :headache:

I am the type of person that likes "options" when I get dressed in the morning, so I always bring WAY too many clothes. I often go home with things that have never made it out of the suitcase. This is a hard one for me to pare down. :upsidedow

I always take too many toiletries. I never use that special lotion I thought I'd use or the aspirin, which I never have with me when I need it. What I DO use is my three pairs of shoes - one flip flops, one pair of sandals, and one pair of tennis shoes. I used to take more, but this seems like this is the magic number.

My kid..but only when he was being grouchy ;)

Seriously though, as others have mentioned I pack way too many clothes, mostly pajamas and socks. No one needs 12 pairs of pajamas and 15 pairs of socks for a 5 day trip. My other problem is that I sometimes forget things, so while I'll have 15 pairs of socks I won't have any extra underwear. It's either feast or famine in my suitcase :rotfl:

I do pack too many socks for sure. I figure I will take them off mid day and want a fresh pair, but I end up commando at the parks and never change footwear.
* note I pack a lot of shoes and I wear them all LOL

I usually bring way too many books/puzzle books/magazines. Really only need a reader and a puzzle because I read the plane magazines on the plane and then am so tired at night that I rarely need that wind down time.

And my swim coverup. I think I've worn it once in 8 trips.

Pin lanyard. Everytime I go to disney I pack my lanyard complete with all of my pins. Seems like a great idea at the time but its so heavy that I end up never actually wearing it and it takes up a fair bit of my luggage weight allowance.

When we first starting going I was reading the Dis all the time and what to bring. I remember one trip I had meds for every aliment that could occur. Net laundry baskets, door hangers, it was nuts.

Now I know that first aid is in every park, Walgreens is around the corner. I bring a few things but no longer full bottles of cold meds, etc.

My dirty laundry goes into a laundry bag in the closet at any hotel.

I think having good shoes, about 3 pairs to rotate and a good sense of adventure matter.

Pretty dresses for going out... For some reason I envisaged going out for lovely 5* meals ... No idea why, I was much more content riding rides at 11pm at night after wolfing down a quick meal :)

I agree with previous posters: too many shoes for sure, dressier clothes, raincoat, umbrella, multiple swim covers, extra jewelry that matches certain outfits, extra toys for my kids to play with in hotel room, excess toiletries. I obviously have an over packing problem!

Like everything I brought in my park bag that only weighed me down and made me sweat. A lot of threads state all these suggested things to pack in park bag and I didn't use anything but park card, ID, chapstick, mist fan, travel sunscreen, sunglasses or hat and blister bandaid.

Mouse ears from previous trips- no one ever wants to wear them all day and then I get stuck carrying them. Pin lanyards- are so heavy now and uncomfortable to wear. Moleskin- never needed it and probably never will since I wear shoes that are already broken in. No new shoes at Disney!
