What did you do today to save money?

I picked up DD at school , took her for a haircut and we have about 20 minutes for lunch before my dentist appt. I could have taken her to McD's, but instead we came home and made lunch. The house is already at the lowest setting on the thermostat ( we program it for 65 during the day) and I refuse to bump it up for a 20 minute lunch. So, here I am eating my ramen noodles in my chilly house.

Just to vent...I hate cold weather!

Day four of the Compusive Eater-Outers Intervention Program, and other than the two bottles of water last night, I still haven't spent a dime eating out. This might be a record! And I've lost a pound!

Anne

I will not bump up the thermostat today...

DD walked to school and will walk home because drive is to icy and steep...saves on gas. We will also be eating at home lunch/dinner today....so far it's been all week!

I stopped at the Farmer's Market shop and loaded up - vegetarian dinner tonight.

DH was being "nice" to me last night and brought me home a gallon of my favorite ice cream - A $6.99 gallon of ice cream. This whole "don't pay alot for groceries" thingy is like trying to run uphill - backwards.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that for $7, I could have eaten Prime Rib. :headache:

I canceled our quicky trip to DW.

$280.00ish one night at the Poly

$120.00ish 3 tickets to pirate party

$60.00 gas

$50.00 breakfast at Kona Cafe

$50.00 incidentals

Saved about $600.00, but scarred for life.

I'm so sorry you had to cancel. That's a tough way to save money.:grouphug:

Went to JCPenney's, returned the wallet DH didn't like. Saved God knows how much by double-checking after DH said he took everything out - his insurance ID with SSN was still in there.

Safeway had a sale on london broil - I got a nice one for $3.35 - that'll be our last nice dinner with DH before he leaves. And Russ's snacks were on sale, too. I did have to pay 55-cents for a donut bribe to get through the store. :rolleyes1

Was the donut bribe for your son? Our stores will give out a cookie at the bakery to the kids if you just ask....you might try it. I know it seems petty, but every little bit gets us back to Disney that much quicker!

Yeah, he was rather miffed at being put in the cart. Our Safeway is really nice, they probably would have give him a cookie, but the bakery was all the way on the far back side from where we entered and the donuts were in a case right in front. Trust me, 55-cents was worth it this time around. :rolleyes1

Well, it ended up costing me $8 for water because I was wicked thirsty. My friend is a security guard there, and he gave me a free bottle, and an old friend is the lighting director for SuperNova, and he gave me a bottle as well, so it could have cost a lot more. It was great being able to spend a little time with my friend, we e-mail and AIM, but only actually see each other every few years.

The show was OK. The first band, Juke Kartel was very good, I'm going to get hold of their label to get a copy of thier CD.

Dilana was kind of boring. She opened with "Roxanne," and it was just her and a guy with an acoustic guitar, and after three songs it really all sounded the same. She's got a great voice, but I think the "look" kind of overpowers the voice, and the music she was singing wasn't really the best choices for her.

Tha Panic Channel, Dave Navarro's new band, was really tight and I loved their music, but their singer left me cold. He sounds a lot like Jared Leto, it's a hot sound right now--and where I predict the industry is headed over the next two years or so, but I'm not terribly fond of it, and I don't think his voice fit well with the songs. I would rather have heard someone who sounded more like Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, or even Lajon Witherspoon singing the material.

When SuperNove came out, I had no idea what to expect. I was bummed that Jason Newstead wasn't playing bass due to breaking both wrists about a month ago in a freak accident. Lucas Rossi began the show looking like Boy George meets Axl Rose, circa 1987. Very bizarre. I don't particularly care for his stage prescence or his voice. The band was tight, the material was generic, and the lighting effects were stunning. In fact I'd say that the lighting was what kept the show interesting, and I'm not saying that because the LD is a friend. Gilby Clark was solid, Tommy Lee is...well Tommy Lee, a good drummer, a great entertainer, but it almost seemed forced last night. The whole thing was pretty over the top, but then I guess that's what they are going for. And I was bummed that Tommy didn't take at least a quick drum solo. He's one of two drummers whose solo's are always entertaining as opposed to an excuse to use the ladies room.

Anyhow, decent show for $11, glad I didn't pay for a ticket, I would have been disappointed.

***DISCLAIMER*** Please take that mini-review as my opinion only. I see hundreds of bands perform every year, and am pretty jaded. There's got to be some real magic happening before I get excited--even my favorite bands live performances leave me saying, "yeah, so?" most of the time. For the average person, you'll probably enjoy the show!

Anyhow,

gas and tolls..........................................$3
water...................................................$8
catching up with an old friend.........priceless!

Anne

I liked Dilana, but I know what you mean by her sound running together after a while.

I'm not a Jared Leto type music fan. I'm pretty eclectic so as long as I like the music it's a go but lately I've been kind of in a music drought. KT Tunstall has been the only new music that really hit me lately.

Just to keep this in the budget relm I've been getting music at work (library) for my ipod but they are not the best about new and cutting edge music LOL. Writing reviews and getting promos must be great. I cut my budget drastically when I became a librarian, no more 200-300 dollars a month at Borders.

I worked from home today. So I saved about $3 in gas and I was able to eat all my meals here which saved a bundle.

I also got a $10 off of $10 Lowes coupon in the mail today. I am going to use it to buy something from the garden center as part of my Mother's Day gift.

Today I:

Took lunch to work
Bought only what I needed at the groc....less than $8
Cooked and ate dinner at home...yes! that's every night this week!!:cheer2:
Looked at local groc flier for this week's BOGO deals

I am enjoying the accountability of this thread I really TRY to come up with at least one thing I did during the day to save!!

Anyone have other fave sites for saving money, living fruagally, etc?

I'm still with you, Anne-- it was leftover night at our house! Keep up the good work! But I seem to be gaining (maybe I drink more wine when I'm not driving...)

While I was on my way home from the dentist ($126 poorer) I saw a gas station with what I thought was a great deal....10 cents per gallon less than my normal gas station. I thought, wow I should fill up! I put 3/4 of a tank in feeling pretty good about my savings...until I went past my normal gas station. Turns out that the 10 cents was actually 4 cents and I saved .43 in total.:headache:

Oh well, it's still .43 saved....

Well.........that's almost enough for a .......................pressed penny!

I double-checked the coupons that our local discount store sends out-the shower curtain we're making a window curtain was $3.50, rather than $7.99.

DD and I decided not to go downstairs to our family room tonight to watch TV. This means we don't have to run the heat pump or start a fire in the not-so-efficient fireplace to keep warm! Money and firewood savings!

And we ate the extra dinner rolls I made for dinner last night with our dinner tonight. Bake once, eat twice!

I kept my my New years Resolution and did not eat out! My Dh and I have a deal, we are cutting way back on eating out. We even started a notebook where we are going to write down every time we eat out for the year so we can see how much we are wasting all year long. For goodness sake the cost of eating at Red Lobster once will feed my family for a week. Well so far no one has written anything in the book, neither one of us want to be first to admit defeat. A little healthy competition is good for my budget's bottom line. Did I mention that at 5:00 there was nothing planned for dinner. Pulled home made frozen twice baked potatoes out of the freezer and quick thawed a ham steak and veggies. YAY!

Good for you both! I agree that competition works well for some!

Tell me about your potatoes....they sound yummy!

What a great thread! I'm going to sub to it.

What I did to save money today: drank water instead of soda with my popcorn tonight.
