What did you do today to save money?

I decided NOT to renew my BJ's membership because the rate went up-- I save more at the new grocery store in our area, without the other temptations that BJ's has.

1) I brought home lunch every day.
2) Unsubscribed to several website email lists.
3) Did not shop at all during my lunch hour.
4) Put off purchasing some art work that I had previously commissioned.
5) Talked to DH about cutting digital cable, extra phone charges/services, etc.
6) Cooked dinner every night (instead of ordering out).
7) Said no to going in on a Bath and Bodyworks order with my girlfriend.
8) Went through all our xmas gift cards to plan when and where we can go out to eat and buy necessities and gifts.

Wow, I've done alot. And I have a lot more to do.

Let's keep up the good work!

I went to Target today. I found quite a few bargains. Then I stopped, put every single item back, and left without buying a thing.

I bought my textbooks all used.

I have a writing childrens books course and all texts for the course (8!) are all childrens books. My own children have three of the books--so that was a "free" expense. I will look at Goodwill today for the other 5--and if they don't have them, I will go to Barnes and Noble with my 20% off each item card --educator card!

Maybe we can help. What books are you looking for?

I went to Target to buy flourescent lights for work. While I walked around the store and window shopped, all I walked out with was flourescent lights! I haven't stuck to my list in a long time, so this felt good!

PS-In case anyone is interested. Target has flourescent lights BOGO, I bought 8 lights (60 watt equivalent) for $20. According to the packaging, each light will save $54 so if I do the math....that's $432 I saved for my employer. Maybe they'll give me a raise:rolleyes:

Well, I have to update again for today...

I went to the grocery store and paid CASH for my groceries! I made a budget this week with the amount of money I'm allowed for groceries. I printed recipes from food network, and wrote down the ingredients I needed, then went shopping and came in $14 under my weekly budget. Normally we just buy tons of food and debit/charge it.

ALSO, there was bread and bagels at buy one get one free, so I took the free ones and put them in the freezer so it definitely stays fresh and doesn't get wasted and thrown away.

Just got back from Albertsons. They are having a 10/$10.00 sale on Quaker items. I got:
4 boxes LIFE Cereal
2 boxesAunt Jamima Pancake Mix
4 boxes Capt. Crunch Cereal
1 box Granola Bars
2 boxes Muffin Bars
2 boxes Instant Oatmeal
4 jars Ragu Spaghetti Sauce
1 jar Aunt J Syrup

Used 2 mfg coupons from Sundays paper
Grand Total $17.75
Total Savings $53.65:banana:

Tonight we are watching a library rented "Eleven Brides for Eleven Brothers" (or is it 12?) and eating Tombstone pizzas on the floor in the den for fun tonight.

I pack my lunch everyday...

we just called and got our cable, phone and Road Runner all for $99 a month...

that stuff adds up quick!

Here's a good way to save money.....get stuck in the house all day because of an ice storm :cold:
I had planned on going shopping today.......not now!:woohoo:

Today I've:

1. Washed 3 loads of laundry (using cold water) and used the dryer for 1 load. Hung all the rest up on drying rack or on hangers in my mud room:laundy: .
2. I received my wireless phone jack (free from Tivo referrals). Now I can call Dish network and drop my cable bill (ba-bye Comcast!!!) That'll save me about $15/month.
3. Made a principal payment on my car loan about a week earlier than I originally planned, so that will save me a weeks worth of interest on that money.

Well, I went to the grocery store with my list, but went $12 over my budget, on the bright side I did have $23 in coupons, I spent $362 (for 2 weeks, family of 7).

I did break it to my kids that we aren't doing their bowling league this summer or next school year while DH is deployed. That will save us $150 a month and alot of my sanity, lol.

I finally made it to the UPS store to return something and ran all of my errands in one trip saving gas.

I think it's 7 Brides for 7 Brothers -- I just saved someone the expense of 4 weddings. Does that count?

I brown-bagged it today, even my beverages. And I just said no to the tempting vending machine.

well I took my 11$ and went to the change machine and made quaters for Disney. That is 11$ more!!!:cool1:

:rotfl: :rotfl: I like the way you think. I too was going to point out that it is 7 Brides/Brothers. Unless of course this is a sequel and they had more kids!:rotfl:

Last night I too desperately wanted to order pizza but I knew I had a planned lunch out with the kids and friends today so I didn't do it and made dinner at home. We have had dinner in every night this week. We did have pizza on Sunday but it was frozen so total of $8 and had enough leftovers for lunch on Monday. DH has brought his lunch every day for two weeks. We decided on an allowance for each of us starting last week and he made the rule that if you did not spend your weekly allotment you could spend it for other things or save it up. That man really wants a new amp so guess who is saving his allowance??

I really want to go to Old Navy but I am going to resist until next Tues when I will be in the city that is 20 min away where the nearest one is so I can save gas.

I went to the grocery store and only bought milk, hamburger and cottage cheese which I needed to make spaghetti pie as well as sloppy joes(the hamburger anyway.) I almost really saved money cause the cashier forgot to charge me for my milk, but I realized the total was too low on my way out the door and went to customer service so I could pay for it.

I did some major stocking up shopping at Aldi and really saved $$ over the reg store.

I printed out the coupons for Target but only for things that we really will use (along with the free chips) and will go there when we drive through that city for something else.

I'm not going away this weekend, does that count.

I had to take my son to the eye doc for a pressure check. It's right across the street from the mall. I got an email today from Yankee Candle saying their jar candles are $10. I was very tempted to hit the mall to "save" money but I realized I'd be spending money to save it! :)

No candles for me. :)

I brought my library books back on time. Last week it cost me $5.15.

I'd say you saved money, you bought the party stuff on clearance instead of waiting till closer to the party date and paying full price. And I'm guessing that straightening out the Blockbuster thing is cheaper than paying for the DVD. And, by doing these all on the same trip you saved gas! If you would have tried this on a weekend, you would have been stuck in Market St/Galleria traffic and wasted tons of gas and time!:wave2:

Sounds good to me. :thumbsup2 I went to Home Depot again today (3rd time in 4 days) and if we like this paint we go again tomm for more gallons. So much for saving gas.
