What did you do today to save money?

ducklite- However, I have not ever taken him to an allergist. I think that allergies can bring on asthma, right??? That definitely could be part of it.

Absolutely. I guess my point is that if it's allergies that are causing the asthma, then just treating the asthma isn't going to get to the root of the problem. If you can get the allergies under control, the asthma might be a non-issue. :thumbsup2

I eliminated a debt today! My Amex hasn't been used in a long time and I was just paying the annual fee. So I cashed in my rewards points and cancelled the card. Yeah!

sounds great. i'm going to have to check that out! thx!! dd is a huge milk drinker, but ds prefers juice if we have it.

I looked a little closer at the Ocean Spray label that I have here at home. It's not "as good" as Juicy Juice. But I don't think it's bad. It does have the 100% vitamin C and less or about equal sugar to Juicy Juice. (I'm trying to have more water drinkers in our family anyway.)

Thanks for asking about it. I might just have to get the Juicy Juice again now and then.

I used my cappucino maker today. Now, I know that may not sound like saving money, but when I compare the cost of coffee beans, milk and sugar to a trip to Starbucks or the Coffee Beanery, I made out like a bandit. :cool1: When the mail came, our new Macy's cc card was there, so I put it in our filing cabinet instead of my purse so I wouldn't be tempted to shop. Also, I shut the doors to some rooms we rarely use (2nd bathroom, guest bedroom and basement) and closed the heat registers. Now the furnace doesn't have to run as long to heat the house. I almost forgot, I also decided to read a book instead of playing Wii. I was thinking of the cost of batteries (those remotes devour batteries), but then I added in the power needed to run the tv, console and dvd player (system hookups are routed through the dvd player) and thought maybe I would read a library book instead.

Forgive me if I'm making an assumption...I saw the word inhaler, and that makes me think asthma and it reminded me. Several years ago I must have registered with Advair, an asthma medication that I take. Anyway, they now send me a $10 check several times per year to help offset my copay. Are there any others out there like that?

I always pull up our medications online either by the med name or the company name. Sometimes there are rebate offers if you fill out a form and mail them your original sales slip. I've saved quiet a bit this way.

Also, this is time consuming on the pharmacist's part but I always ask them if there is a cheeper version of what I am having filled not always is it the generic. For example. My dermatologit wrote me script for Solodyn for acne. The prescription was $400/month without insurance!!!!!! With insurance it cost me $50. So I was discussing this with the pharmacist and he looked it up because he said it was a new drug to him. Turns out it was a simple monocylcine drug that has been around forever. He calls the doc and asks if it is okay for him to change the prescription to monocycline from Solodyn. My cost $12.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER Hurts to ask!!!!! :cool1:

Yes, asthma. I've gotten both Albuterol and Advair as samples. I'd love to get a $10 check towards the co-pay, I'm going to go check out the Advair site. Thanks for the tip!

ETA--I just registered, so I just saved at least $10!

Glad I could help!

Today I ate leftovers for lunch and instead of opening a can of soda and only drinking a few sips, I drank water. I figure I saved 50 cents and a few calories!

I went to CVS this morning and with sales and coupons bought the following for $21.00: 3 bottles of Dawn dishwashing liquid, 3 100-oz. bottles of Tide detergent, 2 bottles of 16 oz Pantene conditioner, and 2 Oral B toothbrushes. Saved $17.00

I dropped off the boys' outgrown pants and two boxes of unopened Arthur Valentine's cards at the consignment shop. I left without buying anything so that saved me $ :)

washing load of laundry in cold water....full load but will have to put most in dryer as they are DH shirts

did not turn up thermostat

will be eating lunch and dinner at home again!....my gas savings alone are crazy!!

Day NINE of the Intervention Program for Compulsive Eater-Outers and I'm still going strong. I ended up not eating anything that I took to work yesterday--got very busy and ended up just eating one of the SlimFast bars that I keep in my drawer--total cost for lunch, $1. So today I'll eat the fruit and salad and Healthy Choice meal that I took in yesterday. I'm down 4.5 pounds since I started the IPCEO plan!

I ended up not having to shoot last night, so I came home and threw some chicken breast on the grill, and opened a can of corn from the pantry that was BOGO a few months ago. The chicken had been on sale, so it was $5.99 for the package. It was enough for dinner for two, plus lunch for two!

Tonights dinner will be burgers on the grill.

For whatever reason, my day isn't complete until I read the progress on this addiction! :)

I've been reading daily but haven't posted to this thread (I don't think anyway!). To summarize what I've done this month so far:

- started working 2 days from home, saving about 4 hours worth of commuting (gas, wear and tear, etc.).
- have not eaten out; we have, however, ordered pizza in one night (like
Anne, this is HUGE for us!)
- i've been enjoying cooking/baking new recipes.
- I have not charged anything this month! Well, sort of...my kids desperately needed clothes so I went to Kohl's. They were offering an additional 15% off if you used your charge card. So I charged my purchase. Then I marched right over to customer service and paid it off!
- because I'm not charging, I've used cash for everything...it really makes you think before buying.

I have a thought for the OP...we should probably close this thread down at the end of the month and start a new one each month. This thread is really filling up!

- Brought lunch from home
- Didn't buy an IPOD cause we really don't need it.
- Cut down on my DS buying lunches at school- the prices just went up .50 to 2.50- I can make chicken noodle soup and a PBJ much cheaper than that- I told him he can pick 2 days and then take the other 3. And he's fine with it.

I bought a toaster for $7 from Walmart to bring into work. Now I don't need to stop at Dunkin Donuts for breakfast in the morning.

I used my 15% off coupon to buy the book I've been waiting for since July. Between that and the other discounts, I saved $10

Just got an e-mail, my FREE Red Hot Chili Peppers tickets will be at my UPS Store box tomorrow. :) My guess is those tickets were in the $40 each range, plus service charges. I only need one and it's sold out, so I can either invite a friend or...

Didn't go shopping - again.. Nothing I need or want.. :)

Not so much a "money saver" but I just got an 8% raise! :thumbsup2

I'm going to bump up my 401K so I'm putting 4% more into that, and use the extra to pay down the car loan.

Ok guys/girls, OP here. I've seen several mentions that we should start a new thread. How about if we do a weekly thread, like the freebie one? Opinions?

to the posters who were talking about the rebates for prescription drugs, one of my kids had a zyrtec rebate -- $10 four times in 2006.
