What did you do today to save money?

I fell off the wagon today. I stopped at McDonalds for lunch. But I ordered from the dollar menu.

Today I :

Filled car with gas using a gas coupon (.15 off/gallon) and saved five dollars when paying for it.

Drove to mom's house and carpooled with mom and sister to grocery shop with coupons. (our new year's resolution, save money and buy more items)

Purchased items in store for 24.00 and came out with 100.00 worth of groceries - 5 boxes of tampons, 10 kids shampoos, 5 boxes of dishwashing detergent, 5 ketchups - all using coupons.

Went to lunch and used a coupon.

Made dinner with leftovers.

Recycled newspapers. I know, not technically saving money, but sure making me feel better.

Thanks so much for this wonderful thread! It's giving me great motivation and ideas. Keep up the good posts!

;)

DH worked tonight so it was mac and cheese for me and the boys.

I returned a $400 GPS as we decided we didn't really "need" it after all. ;)

I brought my lunch and didn't stop for a breakfast sandwich...too fattening and too expensive!

Everything I bought tonight at the grocery store was on sale. At $1.99/lb London Broil was cheaper than hamburger, so I picked up two pieces which fed everyone with leftovers for DH and I for lunches.

When I went to the bank today to make a deposit, I only took out enough cash to go grocery shopping.

I put money in my ING account before I could spend it on something else.

I told my daughter she could NOT dye her hair black with red streaks...saving the cost of the hair dye and my sanity. :rotfl:

Picked DD upi from basketball game and came straight home and made french toast for her and I for dinner. DH was very late tonight so we reheated leftovers and filled him up.

DD is totally having withdrawls from Taco Bell and can not believe we are eating home as much as we are!

I've been eating 3 meals a day at home, plus taking snacks with me to work.

I've been taking public transportation everywhere I need to go.

I've been reading books from the public library.

I've been cat sitting for a friend to earn some extra cash.

I've been sticking to my motto for the year "It's not in the budget!"

I've been loving everyone's reports here - keeps me motivated!

Yes, Juicy Juice is 100% juice. I had been buying it for years for that reason! It was always 100% juice for us too. I'm pretty big on reading the labels and the difference was negligible to me. One of my big concerns was the sugar so I zeroed in on that. I have also made it a habit long ago to dilute juice some with water.

Juicy Juice is BOGO this week at Publix.

Day NINE of the Intervention Program for Compulsive Eater-Outers and I'm still going strong. I ended up not eating anything that I took to work yesterday--got very busy and ended up just eating one of the SlimFast bars that I keep in my drawer--total cost for lunch, $1. So today I'll eat the fruit and salad and Healthy Choice meal that I took in yesterday. I'm down 4.5 pounds since I started the IPCEO plan!

I ended up not having to shoot last night, so I came home and threw some chicken breast on the grill, and opened a can of corn from the pantry that was BOGO a few months ago. The chicken had been on sale, so it was $5.99 for the package. It was enough for dinner for two, plus lunch for two!

Tonights dinner will be burgers on the grill.

I took my son to the doctor. While I was there I asked if they had any samples of my son's ADHD meds. He gave me about 5 1/2-6 months free. FREE!!! FREE!!! I pay $80/month or $160/3months if I order by mail. I figure I got $320-$480 FREE!!! Can you see me doing the happy dance?????? I'm going to call in 6 months and see if they have more free samples:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

We always ask for samples every time we go to the doctor. My DH has a stinky RX plan so its easier to get samples than to pay for the RX and get reimbursed later.

I remember one time when I stopped breastfeeding due to work schedules (no flames, please!) the pediatrician gave me about 6 months worth of formula. They cleared out the formula closet for me.

Good luck to you about the RX bill. Isn't it wonderful when you have a kind doctor?

My DS gets samples of one of his meds (he takes three) from his doctor, saves him about $60 a month.

I can sometimes get a free inhaler or something from my doctor, put they don't usually have samples of the meds I take. But I do get TONS of samples from the place I buy my skincare products, and that saves me probably $100+ a year.

Forgive me if I'm making an assumption...I saw the word inhaler, and that makes me think asthma and it reminded me. Several years ago I must have registered with Advair, an asthma medication that I take. Anyway, they now send me a $10 check several times per year to help offset my copay. Are there any others out there like that?

This morning on our joint drive to work (yea, carpooling), DSO and I agreed to forgo any big Valentine Day stuff. She wants Valentine Peeps and I want a Valentine Day Reese's Peanut Butter Heart. Much cheaper than buying her dead flowers or her getting me a stuffed something that will end up collecting dust somewhere. And...we are going to have dinner in, instead of going out. That'll save a ton right there.

It's pretty small, but on the Valentine's topic: I decided that DS and I will make Valentines for his class using my scrapbooking paper that is already on hand rather than to buy some...plus, this decision allowed me to pitch the Current catalog that I was going to order his Valentines from - saving $$$ and de-cluttering, I love it!

Yes, asthma. I've gotten both Albuterol and Advair as samples. I'd love to get a $10 check towards the co-pay, I'm going to go check out the Advair site. Thanks for the tip!

ETA--I just registered, so I just saved at least $10!

I made cookies rather than buying them. I bumped my heat down to 62 degrees......Just keep moving, just keep moving.....

Speaking of inhalers. My DS found out he has asthma (9 years old). Can I go to the same site for him, or does it have to be an adult? I am very new at this asthma thing. He was only diagnosed 3 months ago (had symptoms for awhile - coughing, wheezing, itchy neck). $10 checks would be great. Inhalers are pricey. Need them for home and school.

Okay - I know I already posted this morning - but I just gotta share this since the DSO isn't properly enthused...

I need 2 memory sticks for my slightly older Sony Digital camera, particularly with WDW in August. Best Buy normal sells them for $19.95/each. I went to my on-line points place and clicked their Best Buy link (2 points per dollar spent) and priced my memory sticks. Woohoo, they are on sale for $16.99/each AND there is free shipping....So I saved 6 bucks on two, plus saved shipping (prolly another 5 bucks) and I collected points towards my Wal-Mart gift card...which I'll use to make trip purchases.:thumbsup2

Adults can register for kids, but it's only for Advair, not albuterol. Advair is a twice a day medicine, not a rescue inhaler.

Also who diagnosed the asthma? It sounds like it might be allergies, not asthma (never heard of an itchy neck being a symptom of asthma), and you might want to take him to an allergist for further evauation.

Anne

The specialist ran some tests and said he has asthma. Actually the itchy neck thing I didn't know about either. He had been digging at his neck for a couple of years, with a combo of coughing constantly at night (especially after being active). Talked to a friend of mine whose DD has a very serious case of asthma (hospitalized several times) and she said her DD scratches her neck all the time. The doctor said that the scratching can be a very normal symptom of asthma. Has something to do with the airways being aggravated and the "feeling" that your neck itches could be an outcome of that. Just learning about asthma. DS does not have a serious case. But he has needed to use the inhaler several times because he could not breathe. He also takes a pill - don't remember the name right now - every day.

ducklite- However, I have not ever taken him to an allergist. I think that allergies can bring on asthma, right??? That definitely could be part of it.
