I thought it may be neat to see about what everyone did to get moving in 2008....and some goals for 2009.

WHAT I DID:
I log ALL my WOs on BeginnerTriathlete.com so it is easy to see totals. I copied and pasted ALL my totals. The running minutes are a bit off b/c I don't time all my runs.

To Hydrate and stretch much more!

Anyone else keep up with miles or have goals?

I log my stuff on SportTracks from Zone 5 Software.

My total for the year - run/bike/swim combined was 2455 miles. I completed my 1st 1/2 M, full M,& Olympic Tri.

I do not log "time" stuff (i.e. weightlifting), but probably did about 250 hours of that.

Goals:

* Become a better & faster swimmer (since I am becoming a marine rescue tech at work, it would be a pretty good idea :thumbsup2 )
* Bike & run more ( 2000 miles bike & 1500 miles run)
* Do as many events as time & $$ allows
* Sub 3 hour Olympic Tri (for I am Old & Slow)
* Sub 4:30 marathon (for I am Old & Slow)
* COMPLETE a 1/2 IM Tri. Not concerned with time there.........
* Eat Less Crap
* Relax more, Stress less
* Be a better husband & father (Last on the list, but the most important one)

What I did:

*Strive for a healthier lifestye in general
*Share smiles where I can

2008 was my 1st year of sticking with an exercise program (other than playing lots of Dance Dance Revolution in my basement) As a resolution last year my DH and I vowed to train for and run the Disney marathon--- we will hopefully fulfill that next week, the training is done all that is left is to run it :cool1: on the road to this we ran in our first races ever:

Minnie 5K and 15K
Disneyland 1/2
Tower of Terror 13K
Philadelphia Distance Run (1/2 marathon)
Philadelphia 1/2 Marathon

for 2009:

complete our 1st full marathon
work on some weight loss in addition to fitness and building up miles
??try for Goofy in 2010

here's wishing everyone a wonderful 2009

I felt like I was in transition in 2008.

Started with the Goofy in January
Spent a couple of months off with an achillies injury
Started working on a new training theory
Knocked a min per mile off my 2007 walking time
Broke 33 min walking the 5K
Broke 1:10 min walking the 10K
Started the PandaEndurance Blog

In 2009

Continue to get faster start interval training
Make PandaEndurance the place to go for a shot of positive
Write
Race
Do the Nashville Marathon
Train for the Goofy in 2010

My year was a year of growth and reduction. Here are some of the year's achievements.

Over 5000 miles of total cardio expenditure
Over 500 hours of total training
Helped to motivate several friends and family members to start taking better care of their health
Competed in my first 5k race ever and finished just under 35 minutes.
Total weight loss of 43 pounds (That one I am pretty excited about!!:woohoo: )
Made a ton of new friends here on WISH

My goals for 2009

Compete and finish in the 5k and Half next week at WDW
Spend the first several months working on getting stronger and adding more muscle to my frame
Keep doing my cardio and getting to the point where I can finish the 2010 marathon in less than 2hrs 30 min
Continue motivating and encouraging everyone to a healthier lifestyle that I can.
Have FUN!!!!

Sounds simple I am sure but I like keeping things simple if at all possible.

SWEET!
We have some great goals.....I am x-sited about this coming year.
Look how many miles we have covered. I know when I am plodding along 1 mile at a time it seems like I am going nowhere...but looking back at the miles I have covered shows me that it happens 1 mile at a time.

Over the last 2 years, I have lost about 40 lbs. People ask me how I did it, expecting an easy answer. But I tell them it was 1 mile at a time.

I think this is true with anything worth while....one step/mile/day/minute at a time.

Lots of luck to anyone racing any of the WDW races....just take it 1 mile at a time.;)

2008: Got the tri-bug and it bit me HARD...
*completed a sprint triathlon
*completed an olympic distance triathlon in 3 hours
*gained 20 lbs.
*lost focus on what I do well
*spread myself too thin with training for tri: it consumed me
*raced the TX state fall MTB series and had mediocre results: but got what I deserved
2009: give myself the gift of 20 for xmas
*began Nov 1 no snacking
*set an attainable goal of March 1 as when to finish losing weight
*made the decision tri is not for me and to take summers off
*built up base miles in Nov & Dec
*tried cyclocross and it is different; sold my tri bike and my road bike and now have a cyclocross bike
*I've lost 13 lbs. since Nov 1 and with 2 months to go the easy part is done.
*begin hard intensive intervals: increasing duration and intensity is ALWAYS the rule of thumb for results. There WILL be levels of discomfort.
*focus on 2 peak races instead of spring overalls in my quest for the red plate

After my tri meltdown, I was irritable and discontent for awhile. I was really disappointed with my efforts in the fall series and had to examine myself thoroughly. Basically, I had to get honest with myself and I'm not unlike anyone else with wanting the results without doing the work. I'm going to have to back off of long endurance rides now and build in hard and shorter workouts. I will also have to have rest days, and an off week built into the cycle. My first race will be in Waco on March 2nd as a warm-up race, and my goal is to show up 25 lbs. lighter, with a much bigger engine.

--Ran 2-5k and a 10k
