I would love to get ideas from people on what they did at this port of call! My husband and I (in our ealy 30;s no kids) are trying to figure out what do to....whether it be a disney excursion or we do it on our own...I would love to hear all your stories so I can come up with a plan for the day!! (we are going on the feb 2nd eastern) oh and on st john/st thomas day...i turn 30!!

Thank you!!

First off, my DH, our friends, and I went diamond shopping. Take a taxi, $4 per person one way, because the ship is quite a way from the shopping area. We bought a diamond tennis bracelet that appraised for 120% more than what we paid for it! The "taxis" are, for the most part, open air buses that you board and then pay once you reach the shopping area.

But, believe it or not, the most memorable part of the day was taking the tram ride up the mountain and sitting at the bar there having snacks and drinks while looking down on the ships moored in the harbor. This was $15 per person for the round trip ride and was the best buy of the whole trip. This is where we fell in love with St Thomas and plan to fly in for a week's stay next year. In fact, we said hello to some people sitting next to us and come to find out, they were from Louisiana too and had flown in for a week of vacation! There is also a bird show but we didn't go to it.

The tram ride is close to where the ship docks so we went there after we'd done our shopping and rested.

We always go on our own to Megans Bay for a half day, then spend alot of money shopping at the port at Havensight center

Highly reccomend the H. Stern Worldwide outlet there, very top of the line jewelry

Megans bay s very simple to get to by cab - and half the price of a Disney excursion

Going to St John is not worth it in my opinion on a one day job
Albeit, beautiful beachs there, by the time you take a bus to the ferry, the ferry over, the van to the beach - u are actually there less than 2 hours

spend less time commuting and relax at Megans bay - beautiful beach, family friendly water, no waves, just rolling surf - food place on premise as well as bathrooms and place to rent chairs and floats

go and relax

Shopping is wonderful, just take the taxi, $4 per person one way, as the ship is further away than it looks.

Sorry but for some reason, post appreared several times!

Thanks for all the ideas...we are debating about st johns becuase we have never been and i hear it's beautiful! Do you think the disney excursion is worth it? Then we don't have to worry about the time...even though you still only get about 2 hours there....

I don't know what to do-wish we were in port a few more hours!
Also thinking about megan's bay...is there snorkling there?

thanks!

I enjoyed the St John tour. We did book it thru Disney. If it was my first time to St Thomas, I think I would stay and explore there. But, if you don't care about the beaches or shopping, it's a great alternative.

If you drink beer and decide on the St John tour, the little bar located right at the dock has $1 local beer that our travel mate said was really good. Just a tip.

We actually did the Beach Break or whatever for Magen's Bay. We found it to be a great deal. You get water and beach chair rental, which is quite high from the signs at the beach. Plus, the part of the beach is sectioned off for only DCL cruisers. We loved it.

We didn't go shopping here, as we wanted to take in the beautiful beach. We, however, shopped in St. Maarten and did an afternoon excursion there, so we were shopped out really.

St. Thomas was the best place, most beautiful. We are looking into one of the 2009 Eastern Cruises, and are so glad they all go to St. Thomas! You leave early there, so get off the ship early!

We love St. Thomas! We have been there twice on 2 cruises and each time we have gone to Magen's Bay. We also took the incline to the top of the mountain to over look St. Thomas...can't remember the name, but it's beautiful up there and you can get some great pictures!

OK - here goes

When I was researching for our 06 Eastern I fell in love with St.T/St.J.

SOOOOO DH and I returned there for a week two months later.

We took the girls from the ship to Coki Beach on St.T. Coki has good snorkeling. Then we headed back @2:00 and shopped at Heavensight.

St John is amazing. One of the most beautiful places on the planet IMHO.

My sister and her family went over to St.J on their own from their cruise ship.
When we were staying on St.T we took the ferry over one morning and it was full of families off a Carnival.
So lots of cruisers do it EVERYDAY on their own and two 30-yr-olds sure can.

Get off the Magic ASAP
Get a taxi to Redhook
Get the Ferry to Cruz Bay
Get a taxi to Trunk Bay (or another beach - but Trunk is great)
Stay as long as possible.
Head back in reverse starting by 2:00 at the latest
It sound a bit much at first but 100s do it daily and it is soooo worth it.

This is Coki on St. T. We like it for convenience.

2/3s of St. John is a US National Park - unspoiled and protected

Made while snorkeling at Trunk Bay.
We were out a ways.
And we're two -fluffy 40+ folks.
It is worth it!!
There is a "Snorkel Trail" on the left side of the small island as you look at it from the beach.
We swam out on the less crowded right side.
