What did you bake today ? OK if not from scratch

Today I baked 6 layers of red velvet cake, from scratch. There are two 6" layers, two 8" layers, and two 10" layers. DD is getting married on Saturday and I am making the cake! There will be 3 tiers, each with two layers. BIG baking day, kitchen is clean, and I am tired- but I still need to wrap and freeze everything; sure hope I can make space in the freezer!
Your picture is gorgeous and I am just in awe.

Today I made a spatchcocked chicken, and like I relearn every fall, it's fast but takes longer than I think. So all the sides are currently warming and getting mushy while we wait for the chicken to be done.

Hi everyone on this thread. It's been awhile but I'm jumping in here because I'm putting together a "baking" theme basket for a niece's bridal shower. The big gift is a hand mixer with several accessories. But I would love fun "little" suggestions to add to the basket. I already thought of a couple of cooking ingredients like flour, sugar, and brown sugar.......and of course chocolate chips. And helpful hints would be gratefully appreciated. :goodvibes:

Interesting video, especially about the cookbook but honestly, even though I'm a raving lover of whipped cream, I couldn't eat more than a spoonful or two of that dessert. Maybe as a topping on something a little less rich and with a more solid texture but just a big bowl of syllabub? :crazy2:

Usually it was more of a topping to a liquor desert or on combination of a parfait. His take on it is the very earliest form of it. It is totally customizable. :-)

What a great gift! Some ideas for other items: oven mitts, flour sack towels (so convenient!), measuring spoons that can fit inside spice jars, spatulas (silicon and off set), good quality cookie cutters in shapes that are meaningful to your niece, a set of prep bowls/custard cups, a bench scraper, a favorite cookbook, nice handsoap and hand cream, etc.

Love that idea!

Here are some little "gadget" ideas:
610552 This is a "cupcake corer" - for if you want to put filling in cupcakes, but I find I use it for other things too - like cutting small circles. (link)

610553 Avacado scoop. (I actually use mine for making twice-baked potatoes.)

610556 Candy molds (link). This link is letter ones - like for decorating cakes, but there are all sorts of holiday ones and tons of other ideas. Places like Michaels and A.C. Moore around here carry them, so I'm guessing whatever craft store is near you would as well.

What about a a few decorative tips and a package of plastic icing bags? I love my inexpensive countertop silicone pastry mat. It really makes rolling out any kind of dough easier.

Thank you guys........with such great suggestions I will be making an added trip to a store to get a few more things!! I'm just an aunt of the groom so I shouldn't spend too much but probably will. :goodvibes:
