What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

Hi, Karin! What wonderful surprises you received this week! Good for you!

Can you believe we're about to be less than three months away? I sure can't. Hope everything else is going well.

Karin, so glad that you worked out your dining ADR's.

Love the goodies that Christine sent to you (it looks like my house :rotfl::rotfl:). Seriously, what a nice thing she did.

Well I neglected my DS7 all day today, but I did it. I made it through all 30 pages. Great dining reviews. I am in love with the chocolate eclaire from DLP. Yum. I can't wait to see more pictures.

Here's what peeked my interest .... well, not in a good way

They are selling readymade cups of noodles all over the park and the price is so not in relation to this cup of "something" :scared1:

Hi there !!! I've been following your TR and reading the previous ones on your website as well, I love following you guys around :)
I live about 45mns from Disneyland Paris (but have not been there in years)
.
This cup of noodle made me laugh out loud. Let me explain!! It seems like us French have finally figured out that you can cook pasta in the microwave. Yep. It's been about a year or so that supermarkets have been filled with Pastabox, then Lustucru came along and did something similar, and several others have followed. My best friend at my old job ate nothing but Pastabox for lunch - every single day. Even at home.
They cost about €4 in the supermarkets and they pretty much sell themselves. They're gross, but people love em. I guess Disneyland Paris saw an opportunity there and said, "Hey, if they like to eat pasta in a cup, let's give it to them!!!".:rotfl:

The filled bread you mention is fougasse. It's soooooo good. Try the olive one next time!

Hello, fellow Foodies!
I am back from my weeklong trip to Vienna with my pupils and now I have finally caught up with housework and prep work for school for next week - so here we go again!

Wow, as usual, had some catching up to do.:rotfl:

Oh my gosh, what a scare about your dining reservations! That would have been nerve wracking!! Glad it is all sorted out and for the best - with no additional stress. ::yes::

Disney's system is showing it will be down again on the 16th until the afternoon of the 17th....hope none of our reservations disappear as we arrive the next day. It going to be a very busy few days, but no worries - at least we're there and whatever we don't get to ride, that's just fine as there is always another visit sooner or later. :dance3:

How thoughtful of Ron to send the postcard - now that's the kind of CM Walt would be very proud to call one of his own.:goodvibes

Aw, you are so very welcome for the box and so glad you both enjoyed everything. :) I felt bad there was so little to choose from that was decent, so finally decided to add the tacky stuff for filler or the box would have been nearly empty!:scared1: Thanks for being good sports about all the not so great items.:goodvibes

If you'd like a few more window clings, just let me know which style you prefer and I will get some in the mail earlier next year. ::yes::

Gee, I never read any whining coming from Austria - just a post mentioning not being to find any Halloween Mickey decorations. :teeth:

Hi Christine! Hope you are enjoying your time at WDW at the moment! I guess your birthday is extra special in that happy place!

Just wanted to let you know that I finally posted our trip report over on that forum. Can't wait to hear more of your trip report and dinning reviews. :)

Hi Teri!
Your trip report is fun! I would LOVE to see some photos too! ;)

Yes, the surprises were wonderful and they got me in a really good mood for our school trip, which was indeed a lot of fun!

By now we are under the 3 month mark, can you believe it? In 2 months, 4 weeks and 1 day we will be at WDW! :woohoo:

Karin, so glad that you worked out your dining ADR's.

Love the goodies that Christine sent to you (it looks like my house :rotfl::rotfl:). Seriously, what a nice thing she did.

I was really relieved when I found them online again! Disney's website drives me "round the bend" sometimes! :rotfl2:

Yes, it was really nice of Christine to send all those things - we really appreciate it very much! :cloud9:

Your poor son!! ;) But then I love that you stayed by my dining review and went through the whole thing! :thumbsup2
Those chocolate eclairs are just soooooooooooo good! I could eat them every day!

Wow! Living so close to DLRP must be wonderful! :goodvibes
Thanks for reading along and following us around! It's nice to know I have some readers!
And thanks for clearing up the Pastabox "mystery". I nearly fell over backwards when I saw it at the first stand and they are literally EVERYWHERE. They have been sold here in Austria for quite some time, but they are not very popular, so I was really wondering why they were all over Disneyland Paris!

I'm glad you explained the cup-o-noodles! I was beginning to worry about eating there!!!popcorn::

I was worried too! :lmao: But then the CS food at DLRP isn't great in the first place! :sad2:

Day 9, August 22

Lunch at the Captain Cook's

We had to be out the door early today as we had signed up for the "Inspiration, through Walt's eyes" tour. So we just had some homemade breakfast out of the fridge.

After the tour we drove back to the Polynesian Resort for some lunch at Captain Cook's.
We used the kiosks and chose the Flatbread of the day,

IMG_6047.jpg

IMG_6048.jpg

which was pulled pork, cheese and onions. It took a little while for our food to come out, but then it was hot and very tasty. The flatbread was crisp and there were not to many pieces of onion. The meat was very tender and went perfectly well with the melted cheese.

IMG_6049.jpg

Our second choice was the Aloha Pork Sandwich with Polynesian Chips. Now, we have had the sandwich before and loved it and we loved it this time around too! It still was very messy to eat. the Polynesian Chips were fresh and hot and we even found a little crown in it! ;) :lmao:

IMG_6051.jpg

For dessert we both opted for fruit.

IMG_6054.jpg

Tom had the Fresh Fruitcup. He said that the melon was cold and fresh and yummy and I can say the same about the grapes which I ate. ;)

IMG_6045.jpg

IMG_6053.jpg

I had the Fresh Pineapple Cup. Most of the pineapple chunks were ripe, juicy and sweet. But there was the occasional slightly sour piece as well.

We were really full after lunch and decided that instead of going to a park we would go back home to Old Key West for a while before we would head out to dinner at the Kona Cafe and Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom.

Price breakdown:
DDP - 24 credits to start with
Captain Cook's .... $ 30,50 (2 CS credits)
TS credits left - 10
CS credits left - 6
Snack credits left 13

Overall money spent on DDP: $ 830

Next up - dinner at the Kona Cafe

Welcome back and can't wait for more yummy reviewspopcorn::popcorn::
I love Vienna...especially the sweets...

Thank you! I hope I will be able to update on a more regular basis for a while - tests are done and as I said, I caught up on housework again! ;)

Vienna was fun and you are RIGHT about those sweet treats! :thumbsup2 I needed to try a few and will post pictures in my trip report inside the trip report inside the REAL trip report! :rotfl2:

:woohoo: You are under two weeks - only 12 more days until YOU get to go to WDW!

Great update :thumbsup2
My son is really getting excited. I'm sort of getting stress with trying to decide what to pack b/c of the weather and between trying to get ready for the Holidays and stuff. We are planning to attend 2 MVMCP party, visit Sea World and our first time at CSR.

Thank you!

You are going to love CSR! We stayed there last February and it was wonderful! :thumbsup2
Sea World is fun - be sure to see all the shows!
We LOVED MVMCP (went to 3 of them during our 8 day stay! :rotfl2:) Be sure to get lots of photos! They have so many characters out. It is just amazing - are you planning on getting photopass? If yes, don't forget to pre-purchase - 99$ instead of 149$! So worth the money!

I remember that I packed a lot more for our December trip. :lmao: In the end I wore a light jacket in the morning and evenings and was able to wear a T-shirt during the day, but then we come from a country where it is really cold in the winter and Florida seemed warm to us. Floridians wore hats and gloves in the evening! :rotfl2:

That flatbread from Cook's looks sooooo good!! I have always been a fan of the Aloha Pork and my mouth is watering knowing that in about 1.5 hours, exactly 3 weeks from now, that is what I will be eating! I am thinking now that maybe DH and I will split one and try that pork flatbread if it's there! DS will be going for the sushi at Poly but Aloha Pork is my all time favorite CS meal. Speaking of favorites, the ham, egg & cheese croissant at Main Street bakery is my fave CS breakfast choice--come on 3 weeks!

I haven't really posted more than once or twice on your report but let me say again, I LOVE it and have enjoyed so much reading it..and seeing it too! :santa:

Welcome back! I hope your trip went well. I'm looking forward to more food pics! Loving your report!!!!:lovestruc

LOVED the little crown! We (well, not we, but my husband, Shawn--do you remember him?) went to Captain Cook's last trip for a quick sandwich. He reported loving the food. He had the grilled cheese, I think.

Only 2 weeks until the parents' trip......little secret....(they don't read over here): I'm meeting them as a surprise to my dad for his 80th! I'll be there for 8 days of their 15 day trip! :cheer2: I need to start packing!

I hope your three weeks just fly by and that then the time just crawls by! :goodvibes
Thank you for reading along - I am glad you like it and that you are all so patient, as sometimes real life DOES get in the way and it takes me longer than I would wish for, to update.
We have only recently discovered Captain Cook's and fell in love with it! It is well worth travelling there for a meal - the pork sandwich is so good and the flatbread was such a nice addition!

Welcome back! I hope your trip went well. I'm looking forward to more food pics! Loving your report!!!!:lovestruc

Thank you! Yes our trip went real wonderful - I posted a lot of photos and a short trip report on my summer 2010 trip report!
But now on with more food photos! Kona Cafe is up next - coming up very shortly!

LOVED the little crown! We (well, not we, but my husband, Shawn--do you remember him?) went to Captain Cook's last trip for a quick sandwich. He reported loving the food. He had the grilled cheese, I think.

I knew you'd love the little crown! :rotfl2: Tom was determined to take that photo! ;)

:woohoo: for going to surprise your parents on their trip! What a fun idea! They are going to love your surprise! Are you leaving the family at home or are all of you going?

How the heck did I miss an update? Have I been living under a rock????

The Aloha Pork Sandwich with Polynesian Chips from Captain Cook's really looks good. I always enjoyed Captain Cook's when we stayed at the Poly; Mark and I need to make a stop there one of these days just for lunch.

Still Day 9, August 22

Dinner at the Kona Cafe

We went back to Old Key West, since the weather had not been all that good and it looked a lot like rain.
We barely made it back to the villa when the heavens opened up and it was raining cats and dogs.

IMG_6070.jpg

IMG_6064.jpg

By late afternoon the rain had stopped and we were ready to head back to the parks for more food and fun!

Our dinner ADR was for the Kona Cafe and we arrived about 10 minutes early. There were a lot of walk-ups who were told they would have a 20 minute wait and so Tom and I walked over to the little shop, had a look at the sushi bar and finally went back to Kona and leaned against the railing. One buzzer after the other went off and a lot of people were seated, walk-ups and ADRs and we were still waiting. It took about half an hour until we were finally seated and the people who checked in right ahead of us WITHOUT an ADR were seated before us. By that time I was ready to leave. No reason making ADRs if they don't honour them.
When I was walking up to the front desk to return my buzzer it finally started blinking. We gave in and stayed. They seated us at a tiny two top behind a column but we didn't want to wait any longer so we took it.

Our server went into his dining plan spiel, took our drinks orders and off he went.

IMG_6072.jpg

IMG_6073.jpg

He returned shortly after with our drinks, Diet Cokes and Kona's heavenly soft bread and the Macadamia nut butter. Once we had placed our orders for entrees we dug into the bread. It was just as we remembered it - soft and fluffy and heavenly with the nutty butter.

IMG_6078.jpg

IMG_6079.jpg

Tom had ordered the Teriyaki-style New York Strip - sirloin strip grilled with pineapple teriyaki glaze served with mashed Yukon gold potatoes and stir-fried broccolini. It made up for the lenghty wait! It was cooked perfectly and he really loved it. The steak was very tender and the pineapple teriyaki glaze really enhanced the flavour.

IMG_6075.jpg

I ordered the Coconut Almond Chicken - sauteed chicken breast served with Asian greens tossed with honey-lime dressing, golden pineapple, strawberries, and toasted almonds. I had had this before and had loved it and I loved it this time around too!
The chicken was slightly sweet from the coconut, but it was moist and nice and I loved the fact that it came with a salad with a light dressing and lots of fruit in it!
The only thing that looked really peculiar was how it was plated! :rotfl2:

IMG_6074.jpg

Once we had finished our main courses we needed to decide on dessert.

IMG_6081.jpg

Tom was full, but he wanted to try the No Sugar Added Apple Stacker - with cinnamon, sour cream and crisp won tons served with sugar free vanilla ice cream. It was surprisingly light and flavourful. He really enjoyed it.

IMG_6082.jpg

I thought it was time to give another old favourite another try, the Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee - with a chocolate spiral. The Creme Brulee was nothing special and the banana was kind of burnt to a slightly bitter taste. I actually have had better creme brulee. ;) I only ate about half of it.

It was EMH at the MK so after dinner we made our way over there and had a fun time.

At the end of EMH we discovered a Disney resort we had not heard about before!

Maybe you did not get a notification, just like Tom? :confused3 He really gets mad sometimes when I ask if he has read something and he didn't get a note that something new has been posted.

We always went past Captain Cook's until I saw a photo of the chips and sandwich on one of Nicki's reviews. I HAD TO try it and fell in love with it!

Oh, btw, just in case you missed my other updates on my trip report thread, Kathy! Our wish came true!!!!!!!!!!!!! With the AP discount that just came out we were able to upgrade our reservation at Pop to CSR!!!! I was bad and booked a waterview! :rotfl2: They got me hooked when they upgraded us last time!
Any suggestions on a room request? I was thinking about Cabanas again or maybe Ranchos. What do you think? You are the expert!

And I started a pre-trippie as well. As if I could keep up with my other threads! ;) :lmao:

I don't get notifications...I just check to see if it is "highlighted" in my subscribed threads. :confused3

We could just blame Nicki because I've spent so much time over on her thread. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for CSR upgrade. I am so happy for you and so glad you loved it enough to go back. I would ask for Cabanas 8A...close to the main pool, a short walk to the main building and close to a bus stop. They've announced that Casitas 1 and 2 and Cabanas 9A and 9B will be "preferred" buildings beginning January 1.
