So THAT'S what Toad in the Hole is!!! I'm getting quite an education on this UK board!
How do you make Yorkshire pudding?

3oz plain flour, sifted
Add salt and pepper
Mix in one large egg
2.5 fluid ounces of milk
2.5 fluid ounces of water
Whisk like mad to make it bubbly.

Heat cooking oil in a pan (or 6 cups of a muffin tray) at about 220 degrees, until really hot. Pour in batter and cook for 25 minutes or until risen and golden.

This will make 6 individual puddings or one small tray approx 20cm square. If you want to make Toad in the Hole, brown the sausages in the oven and then place them in the pan/tray, pour the batter around them and cook as before.

The 'pudding' part of a steak pudding is a dough made from flour, suet (beef fat) and water mixed together - traditionally it would be cooked with kidney to make a 'steak and kidney' pudding as in this recipe.

Chips are indeed french fries - although ours would be cut thicker than the fries that you get in fast food restaurants.

Just returned from fenwicks food hall Newcastle, they got in a few American items in. the price is out of this world,

I didn't know that. But it does make sense. Those things are pretty much indestructible. We don't buy them often, but the kids are sure happy when I do!

Before you ask Potato hash
Chopped potatoes (boil for 20 min then drain) put in a deep dish with chopped carrots,onions and a tin of chopped up corned beef add an oxo cube and some water cover dish and place in oven for 45 min on high heat when ready to serve, plate up(should be nice and runny over plate) add beens to side and some pickled red cabbage and brown sauce

hahaha Christmas Crackers are a big part of our Canadian Christmas as well. Actually, I've seen Easter and Thanksgiving crackers now too. I've never bought them, but I'm assuming it's just like a Christmas Cracker.

Thank you Paul. My husband loves tinned corned beef. I personally think it looks and smells like cat food. I just can't bring myself to eat it. He would probably love potato hash. I've seen a recipe for Betty's hot pot somewhere. I'll have to dig it up and give it a try.
