What did JK Rowling get for WWOHP?

I'm sure this has been discussed at some point, I can't find it anywhere online. Spielberg got a great deal with Universal Studios but, arguably, he wouldn't get the same deal today. Did she get some kind of percentage of tickets like he did or just a lump sum?

Spielberg got a great deal because his stuff is ALL OVER the parks...without him, we wouldn't recognize it!

I mean:

Jaws
E.T.
MIB
Back to the Future (RIP)
Feivel's Playland
Jurassic Park
Shrek

and he was a creative consultant for the Spiderman ride, and who knows what else...

Just a little info ;)

6 million eh? Good business for the park IMO. I know it cost them a whole lot to build but without her greenlight it would be a moot point. And anyone that has been to IOA knows they're getting their 6 million's worth. WWOHP is jampacked day and night.

BTW, I'm not disagreeing that Spielberg is a big part of UO. I mean, I doubt they could have even opened without him. Just saying that I don't think anyone would ever get that kind of a deal nowadays.

I have to agree the $6 Million seems low to me.

6mill is alot. But Spielburg has got stock with Universal pictures. So buying him out is a moog point also..

I agree, you will see more then 6mil at IOA and the Studios.

J.K. Is rolling in the money,I promise.Between the books, movies and a theme park!!You do the math...

Oh yeah...I mean, JK Rowling is officially richer than The Queen of England.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/2979033.stm

(Nevermind where The Queen's true wealth lies. In actual cash...Rowling has her beat.)

You have to suspect Disney would have paid her more than 6 million though, and the fact that she (allegedly) valued her characters and story more than the extra money is pretty cool.

I am sure she gets a percentage of merch., food, etc. . . . . .

Just like the Queen JK Rowling lives in her own castle too. It's been mentioned in UK newspapers that she had a lot of conditions put into her contract with Universal, one being no Harry Potter look alike characters walking around signing autographs, etc. In fact no characters from the books/films too.

Apparently, Ms Rowling is planning the next book!

(that's if the papers are right)

Also, I would add a 1 before the 6 million

J.K. is a very shrewd operator. I would imagine her contracts with Universal look like this:

$6m (if the 6m figure is indeed correct) for PHASE 1 of WWoHP (films 1-4).
10%-20% of all food and beverage sold within designated WWoHP outlets.
10%-20% of all official Wizarding World of Harry Potter merchandise, regardless of where it's sold* (could be inside WWoHP, Port of Entry, CityWalk, online**, etc.).
Equal creative control and total power of veto over WWoHP and everything in it.
A further minimum baseline of $6m (I agree, seems way too low) for any and every future phase of WWoHP - with identical or I daresay improved % on all terms listed above.***

* Remember, Warner Brothers Pictures will also have % cuts on assorted merchandise, seeing as they own the film rights on which WWoHP is based (I believe the ONLY THING in the entire WWoHP that JK doesn't get a cut from are the DVDs on sale in Filch's Emporium, as she famously doesn't get a penny from Warner Home Video releases).
** Possibly slightly less % for online sales
*** With the success of PHASE 1, it is obvious to presume that PHASE 2 will cost Universal more in terms of the sacrifice they make with % cuts to JK and Warner. In fact I bet they are still negitoating it all now. It may also be why PHASE 2 takes much longer to realise than we would all ideally like.

I'm pretty positive the papers were wrong about planning the next book. She pretty much squashed that rumor at the last movie premier everytime she was asked about it. Of course that doesn't mean it will never happen, but there are no plans at all in the works for a new Potter book for now. She basically said, "Potter is my baby and if I want to take it out one day and play with it, then I will, but as of now it is not on my agenda at all."

It's also a long standing joke between her and Daniel Radcliffe that she promised him that he was done, and she won't break that promise to him unless he calls her in 10 or 15 years begging her to write another one.:rotfl:

Was at the park today. Hulk ride was foing test runs, no passengers in cars. Saw several cars running throughout the day. King Kong was doing technical runthroughs. They let people go in ever now and then but not all day.

Did you mean to post on a thread of six years back?

This old thread was about the creator of Harry Potter

I hope we don't scare the first time ever poster off
