What did Disney gain/lose for their Billion dollars?

Really? Wow. For fifteen years you just ignored it, knowing it couldn't last?

I agree on the monetization part, which can be increasing revenue or cutting costs.

Not ignored it, didn't come to rely on it. Most days I didn't use a single FP, some days I would use 1 or 2. I don't remember ever using more but might have.

I just didn't need them to see what I wanted to see. The first day I used one I thought "well, this isn't going to last as it is".

us 50+ no kids, wife in wheelchair, went 25th Dec To 10th Jan had worst trip out of 29.:sad2:

That's a shame :(. My parents are in that range as are my aunts and uncles. I like the new system but idk if my parents would if I wasn't around to trouble shoot for them. It's a lot if info to take in and try to use. Were the cast members less than keen to help or did they seem to not know much either?

Almost anything that could go wrong, did go wrong. We had difficulties at the resort, difficulties with the Magic Band (the only thing that worked without additional assistance was vendor purchasing), difficulties with broken KTTW cards (parking and room lock system), difficulties with ADRs, problems with the MyMagic app, just problems every day. It was the most stressful and least relaxing trip we have ever taken to WDW. We spent hours trying to get help for things which should not have broken.

It costs too much money to stay onsite for it to be like that. Cost / value is broken for us right now.

Agreed! Visitors should not be expected to go through this at the cost of their vacation time. A minor glitch maybe; but this is not acceptable!

No hard numbers...just empirical evidence. I've helped so many family plan trips that just had no clue about FP or that getting to RD was important.

I don't believe this. Here is what I see.

Every single day at DHS, 10,000 rushed to the park to score a TSMM FP before noon. That is a lot of "in the know" people. 3,650,000 people per year - Significantly more than the disboards. That is about 40% of the attendance. Then there are the people who know about fastpass but simply don't want to join in on the stampede.

I do see a lot of clueless people about FP, but I think that number is the exaggerated one.

On a slightly different note, I would ask the question though about booking BOG...how does everyone know they need to book that 180 days, or is that more limited population all DIS followers? That analogy might fit your Venn diagram.

I agree. That diagram is way, way off from reality. No way 90%+ of "FastPass Wizards" were also active DISboards members. I would venture to guess the diagram is almost exactly opposite of reality and that less than 10% of "FastPass Wizards" were also DISboards members.

You are overestimating your 'rush' and using the extreme ride on the entire resort as an example.

900 people an hour can ride TSMM. So in a normal 10 hour day, that is 9,000 people. But the first FP- doesn't start until an hour after the park opens. And how many FP- went out an hour? Were 50% FP? Probably less. Lets be generous and say that is 33%. That means there are 3,000 FP- for an entire day....300/hour. So for FP- to get out to noon, you only need 600 pulled. There are 25,000 or so folks a day at DHS. That is only 2.4% of Guests for the day. Further....how many of those first 600 FP go to people really 'in the know?' and how many got to folks that just like toy story and wandered up 20 minutes after RD and found a 60 minute line? A Bunch.

It is not the 'right' of everyone who walks down hollywood blvd to ride TSMM. In fact, it is mathematically impossible for any more than 40% of the average gate to get to ride it on a normal day.

Be our guest has a popularity and capacity issue as well. What do they have in there? 100 tables? So you only need about 300 'in the know people' to eat up all the reservations during dinner for 45,000 guests. If each party is 4 people that is only .8% of the park guests that get to eat there.

So to answer you question, how does 'everyone know'. They don't. A very small, and on this board, vocal, minority are 'in the know.'

Umm....

All covered, well covered and the wrong tree to bark up. Check the math in his sig links . Good stuff....

Still trying to figure out your Vgram, though. Some color and animation always helps when the pesky data/numbers aren't there to support it. Helps to distract everyone.......;)

I am pretty sure this is all about data mining. They can track you in the park as you move about and you are caring a gps on your arm. They know where you walk, what shops you go to and what parades you see. They can now tell what rides and what times you get on them.

Now not trying to say big brother is doing something sinister this now tells them where to have food and drink carts at a certain time, where to put people and what shops need better displays or sale items. They see which shops people go but do not buy from and they can adjust product. They will also see where people are going to be so they know which bathrooms need more cleanign at what time, trash pick up and general help. They know when you move around the resorts and also they know what foods you eat. As a resort guest over the average park guest this info is gold, they will try to figure out patterns and adjust. If you walk along route A, put a soda/snack cart there. Good place for a character near a show or two. Also good to know what merchandise to put there.

This costs cash now but over the next couple years it will help adjust the park to trends. The old visual survey is just not enough when you have real numbers. Think about that, they cand use the bands to adjust the way the park works and moves. Space Mountain is crowed at this time? Where shall we put a parade/character/talking trash can to distract people? All about info.

But if you think that is scary they also learn when you pee too.
