My son is starting at the University of Florida in the fall and we are flying out from California for his freshman orientation over the summer. We want to take a few days at Disney and Universal since we are making the trip. Both kids by that time will be over 18 and my daughter wants to bring her friend along, who is also 18.
We really wanted to stay at Animal Kindgom again. It has been our favorite so far. I was surprised to find that Animal Kingdom couldn't house 5 to a room. Out here at DLR, both GCH and DLH can house 5 adults with a pull out daybed.

We are super bummed about not being able to stay at Animal Kingdom, but now must ask, what deluxe hotels can house 5? Any recommendations?

You might want to consider the Polynesian Resort.
They have 2 bathrooms !
How convenient would a stay at Universal be ? You might find a better rate to compare.

If you have your heart set on Animal Kingdom Lodge, you could stay in a DVC 1-bedroom which sleeps 5 (king bed, sofa pull out, and chair pull out). Renting DVC points could make it more affordable, but you can also book directly through Disney.

The 1-bedrooms in the Kidani building also have two bathrooms!

As far as standard hotel rooms, the two Deluxes that fit 4 are WL and AKL. The rest - CR, Poly, GR, BWI, YC, and BC - fit 5 in a standard room.

Thanks for the input. Of course, WL and AKL are my favorites. I will set off and start researching some more.

Where do you rent points? I don't know anything about DVC stuff.

There's a rental board here on Disboards where you can rent direclty through an owner, but there are also a few brokers you can go through too. I think DVC Rental Store is a board sponsor.

Booking the 1-BR directly through Disney is the most secure and flexible (and may have more availability closer to the date whereas DVC availability for owners books quickly after 11 and 7 months depending on the time of year-- fall is likely quickly booking up, though the 1-bedrooms don't book up as quickly as the studios), but you can save a lot of money by renting through an owner (direct or through a broker).

You can fit 5 in a deluxe room at WL. If you do not want to rent points, you can also book Deluxe Villas through WDW. We always book DVC directly through WDW - it typically costs more, but the terms and conditions are much more lenient. If you want to consider WL or AKL, take a look at the villas that sleep 5 at Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani and Jambo, Copper Creek and Boulder Ridge.
