What deck for a 'sickly' type cruiser?

My DH is prone to motion sickness :crazy2: and is a little worried about having trouble on the ship. Is a certain deck or stateroom better or worse for motion sickness.

I have promised him I will get patch from the doctor, bovine, ginger snaps, ginger pills, ginger ale. Any other magic potions you would suggest :genie:

So am I! I was terrified to cruise-had everything you could imagine with me-seabands, ginger tablets/lozengers/chews, dramamine, tabacum and Bonamine (meclizine). Just got back from my first cruise-not sick at all and we had 13 ft waves!. Took 1/2 a meclizine pill each morning and the other 1/2 at night if I felt funny-no problems whatsoever. Our cabin was midship on deck 6-felt very little. Definitely recommend he try some stuff before you go just in case he experiences any side effects (dramamine made me sleepy, seabands threw me off kilter, meclizine worked great-even imbibed with no probs).

Worst place I felt the ship's movement was deck 10 aft (in Palo's during dinner and at brunch).

I'm wondering how a cow (bovine) will help with motion sickness :confused3 Oh wait, I really don't want to know :rotfl2: :rotfl:

As far as "cures, remidies and preventive" measures, look at this thread on motion sickness.

Just to let you know what I've been told...
The best place for not feeling the ocean is a lower level deck, midship. We were told on our last cruise that was best place to be for sickness.
I know we were on deck 7, aft and a couple of nights (especially the last), you could really feel the rocking of the ship.

Room 1060.

I felt motion sickness on the upper levels (even 5 on a rough night) but in my room, it just lulled me to sleep. It was deck 1 midship.

We find this REALLY true!!. We have been on deck 2, with incredible waves, and felt little, if anything... When we stayed on decks 6, and 7..it was incredible...Literally swaying when walking...Never got us sick..but others were..

I've got the "patch" all lined up for my May cruise! I'll be a first time user! Took Dramamine the last time and all it did was make me sleep. I hope I have better success with the patch. I'm gonna try it a week before I cruise!

The patch works great on motion sickness but read the label. It may cause BLURRED vision and it do to both me and another gal I met on our cruise meet. So, please keep an eye on your eyes. If you vision becomes blurred, take it off. IT take about 24 hours for your vision to clear.

The Health Center has a free sea sickness meds always available outside their door.

Howdy,
The lower the deck the less motion. The best place is towards the middle of the ship. You can request this when you book and if there are any openings you'll get it. If your husband gets queasy during the day, but doesnt want to go back to the room, the atrium (lowest level) is the steadiest part of the ship and works well for people. Most ships offer a shot for around $125.00 that takes away the nausea for the entire cruise if nothing else works. I dont know if DCL has them, but other cruise lines do. The ship has stabilizers which help tremendously. One of our cruises the stabilizers wernt working and we had 30 foot swells and 65MPH winds cross deck. We were on deck 7 and our closet door kept slamming open until we blocked it and I caught myself rolling out of bed!! That was a cruise to remember! 1/2 the ship was sick, but that was a rare occasion. I'm sure your husband will have a great time, just keep him busy so he wont be thinking about it.
Hope you have a fantastic cruise,
mom x4,grandma x4 :cheer2:

We have cruised twice near the aft elevators, once on floor 8 and once on floor 2. MUCH less sensation of motion on floor 2, as people have said, just wanted to let you know that being more towards an end of the boat didn't seem to make as much difference on a low floor.

We were on deck 8, exactly midship and with 15 ft waves our room was rocking a lot. The door between the master suite and living room was sliding back and forth and we stuck the ottoman it in. It did this no matter how bad the ocean was. As well the woodwork in the room was creaking loudly (couldn't sleep). We slept with our veranda doors open to give us fresh air but were all sick ( 5 of us except my husband) with the worst of it on the first and last nights. There is a reason why they have rails on all of the bedside tables - otherwise stuff would have been everywhere.

We went down to the lower decks and found the rocking to be much less so it would definitely be better; however having the advantage of fresh air on the veranda was a benefit.

I took a perscription called Serc for the sea sickness which worked a little however I don't think anything could have stopped it given the seas that we were dealing with. Mind you this was in early March and it was rainy so this probably had a lot to do with it.
