What Christmas song makes you cry?

This one makes me cry: "We'll Sing You a Christmastime." It's on the 1991 Hallmark Christmas CD (Harry Belafonte and Jennifer Warnes) and sung by The American Boychoir. It had always been one of my favorites. Now my son sings with The American Boychoir and it has taken on new meaning for me.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

That Civil War Christmas song, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" brings me to tears EVERY SINGLE TIME! It shares such feelings of dispair and doubt and then ends with great hope. It flowed from the experiences of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow--which involved the tragic death of his wife and the crippling injury of his son from war wounds. It certainly still stands today, and when sung by Sinatra, well-<sniff, sniff>
Lyrics
I heard the bells on christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all christendom
Had rolled along th unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth, I said,
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.

Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime

This song is also on the 1991 Hallmark Christmas CD and sung by Harry Belafonte. It is a beautiful song.

"Breath of Heaven" (Mary's Song) by Amy Grant
"O Holy Night" performed by Martina McBride
"Lullay thou tiny little child" by The Boston Camerata

My son sobs hysterically whenever he hears "Silent Night". Doesn't matter who sings it, he cries and cries. :scared: We have had to leave school concerts when this song is played or sung. To him, it's a sad sad song.

I agree with "The Christmas Shoes". It makes me cry every time. :cool2:

Oh good one! I heard her sing it a capella in 1992(?) when she was opening for Garth Brooks and nobody knew who she was. That girl can SANG!

She does a capella like nobody's business. Just gives you the shivers, don't it?

I so agree about...

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (as long as it is Judy Garland singing it - Meet Me in St. Louis is one of my favorite movies and I think this is where the song came from?)

"Celebrate Me Home" - Kenny Loggins! When I first read the title of the thread, this song instantly came to mind and I honestly didn't think it would be on anyone else's list :) I'm so glad it is ... highly underrated.

"Silver Bells" does it for me too.

Great thread!
Thank you. I found videos of Celebrate Me Home by Kenny Loggins on Youtube. I will post them on the Boards later on this evening at the Library . Get the Kleenex Ready.

Many Christian radio stations play this song called "Mary did you know" This song is soo beautiful. I Bawl like a baby when i hear this song.also Silent night 9/11 done after the 9/11 terriost attacks. with silent night played by Manheim Steamroller in the background and the Narrator acting as God . that song was soo hard to listen to back in 2001 :sad1:.

Not to be a complete downer- but this thread made me want to share. My mom passed away last Christmas eve morning- this is what I played for her her last few days, so this year they all make me cry. Cant even listen to the christmas shoes, need to turn that one right off as it makes me hysterical.
Just a hard year this year.
I have always loved Christmas music- my fav is also Celebrate me home -
Hopefully next year I will be able to listen and think happy memories
